Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2015/08/28) */
When customer made the appointment they were informed that we were very busy and it would be at least one week before we would be able to look at her vehicle and also told her that the engine in her car is an interference engine and if the
timing belt was broken or had jumped teeth there is a strong chance of engine damage and she agreed that would be okWhen we got to it we tried to start engine and it would crank but not startWe called the customer and told her it wouldn't start and once again warned her of the possible engine damage and asked if she wanted us to take it apart and she ok'd the dis-assembly (at this point all we had done was turn the key.) We removed the timing belt covers and found the tensioner spring broken, the timing belt was loose and had jumped teeth causing the camshaft and crankshaft to be out of syncWe installed her new tensioner with spring and put belt back in time so we could check for engine damage and found the #cylinder low on compression and the exhaust valve was leaking due to contact with piston caused by the broken tensioner spring and loose beltAt this point we called customer and informed them of the situation and told them the cylinder head would have to be removed and inspected to repair the engine and gave them an estimate for that repairThey decided not to go any further so we gave them the option for us to put the rest of her new parts on and put engine back together for the full labor price that she was quoted when she made the appointment or we could leave it apart and box up her parts for half of the quoted labor for the dis-assembly and diagnosis that was done because if she has repair done the parts that we took of would need to be off anywayShe chose to leave it apart so we boxed up the parts and only charged half the laborWe spoke with the customers son it were told that they had heard what the thought was the timing belt hitting the cover and I believe they knew there was damage and car did not run otherwise why would they have it towed in if the car was running fine with no issue'sWe were honest and upfront with this customer and caused no damage to their vehicle
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 17, 2015/09/14) */
First off I didn't kno my car was torn apart till it got back homeAnd when they called to let me know that I need a valve redone I told them that I couldn't afford it so I told them I'mm have it towed back home the same dayIf I would have known my car was in pieces I would have them put the covers back on since it was going down a dirt roadAnd when I did get my car back I called them and asked them why my car was in pieces and the person I spoke with didn't have any idea so he went to speak with the mechanic and he said he left it that way because I was having it brought back home, they DID NOT ASK ME IF I WANTED THEM TO PUT MY PARTS BACK ONThey told me all the part I sent with my car are still in the boxLike I said earlier I had kno idea my valve covers were offAnd when I spoke with them they did tell me it would be a week and I told them that would be ok and they said that I could bring my car up there that they might get to it earlier so that's what we didAnd for me having it towed there since there was a noise coming from under the timing belt cover I thought it would be better to have it towed instead of driving it there and possible messing the motor up, since the car was drivable bhi tech got ahold of itWhen I parked my car at home it was running and the day after I had them bring it back another mechanic picked it up and he said that since they chose NOT TO put the covers back on my valves that he has to clean all the dust And dirt particles out of my head were the valve cover should have been and where the timing cover was suppose to be there's dust all up in the partsSo as of today I still do not have my car back since the mechanic has to clean out dust and do the other stuff he has to do to fix my head valves and timing belt due to what hi tech has
doneSo Im so NOT SATISFIEDWITH WHAT HI TECH HAS SENT BACK, I feel they still owe me $ for the pain and of not having my car and to pay for the other mechanic as well as $ for the extra towI've had to ask and pay for gas every time I have to go any where since I live about miles out of town, so it has been a real pain without my car and I blame it on hi tech since my car was running when it was picked upI keep asking the mechanic how its going and the last time I spoke to him he said he has to tear apart the head to clean out the valves and then replace the sealsThere was dust and dirt that got in the partsI would have had my car back already if the other mechanic didn't have to do all this extra workSo in ending hi tech really needs to start doing things right
Final Business Response /* (4000, 24, 2015/09/29) */
Customer was clearly informed of the condition the engine would be left in and the only call back was to ask where her new parts were at which were a box in the carThe way the engine was left is common practice if it is not going to be repaired or repaired at another place as it saves the customer labor costs by not re-assembling something that has to be taken back apart to repairAs for the dust it is very unlikely that any even got into the engine during the towing process and even if it did to properly repair the engine the cylinder head needed to be removed and sent to a machine shop for the bent valve repair and all the parts would be cleaned during that process and does not add any additional time or cost to the repairHi-Tech Automotive has always and will continue to be honest and upfront with all our customers
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 26, 2015/10/02) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I Do NOT ACCEPT what they have said, because it's a lie and I would like to be reinburst for the half that I have already gave them and also for the tow and for the repairs to fix my car at the other mechanicI do not believe they did everything they said to my car because the other mechanic had to do it also they did not call me as many times as they are claimingAnd there was no reason to leave the covers off when I stated that I want the car brought back on the back of the flat bed roll off tow truck and not to be towed behind a tow truck, when I had them pick it up to take it to HiTech I had them bring the flatbed ,so why wouldn't they bring it back the same way if the top of the engine is open and going down a dirt road and make more work for the other mechanic when the other mechanic took off the head to clean all the dirt off there was nothing wrong with my head or valves, so all n all this needs to b resolvedAll the other mechanic did was fix what HiTech messed up and clean it all up from the dirt, he didn't have to send the head out to any special place to have anything done to repair the valves and I Did Not have a bent valve and the dust got into the where the valve cover and the timing belt cover should have beenThey say left them off for the other mechanic well all it did was make more work for the mechanicAll I want is to settle this and get what I'm owedAnd if they did try to start my car then they would have seen the new parts in the passenger seatI even told them when I first spoke that I will put the new parts in the passenger seatThey did not call me like they are sayingThey need to respect the customer belonging more, and this would not be going thru this!!!!!
