Review: I ordered three yards of top soil from John's Lawn Care and Landscaping, Wolcott, CT. After speaking with the company rep. on the phone she assured me the soil was of good quality. I understand that it was not " screened " top soil and was O.K. with that. I also expressed my concern about ordering soil from another company many, many years ago and that, top soil had so much sand in it I could not even get weeds to grow. I was assured this would not be the case and ordered three yards delivered. Upon delivery, I was not home at the time, I was disappointed. The "good top soil" appeared to be sandy and looked more like gravel than top soil. There was/is a large amount of stone in it. I called John"s Lawn Care and Landscaping expressing my disappointment and they have yet to even return my call. I spread the soil hoping for the best. Its been about two weeks now and even after watering daily and plenty of rain the "top soil" appears to be lacking the proper elements to support grass. I feel this "top soil" was cut with sand and or gravel in order to make it go further or is of very poor quality.

We do not process the top soil. We purchase the top soil from another company and supply delivery to our customers. Mr. [redacted] called and requested top soil from us and received it in a timely fashion.We informed him it was screened with a 3/4" screener. The product that Mr. [redacted] request is what he received.

I find this not acceptable because it does not even address the issue. I never complained about the time frame in which the top soil was delivered. It was in fact delivered timely, and as I stated, I understand the top soil would have rock or stone in it. I am complaining about the quality of the soil itself. If one was to look up what top soil is defined as, you would fine it is the top one to two inches of soil most capable of supporting the most plant growth. I feel what I was delivered has more of a gravel substance than soil to it. Lastly as for their explaining they buy the soil from someone else and simply deliver it, is of no matter to me. I bought the top soil from Johns Landscaping and have a invoice from them. It details they sold me three yards of top soil for $73.38 and charged me $ 42.54 to deliver said top soil. As far as I'm concerned they sold it to me and they delivered it to me. I ask this, If I sold them a car and they had issues with it and told them, well I brought it from someone else its not my problem. What do you think their answer would be, I brought it from you, my complaint is with you, so don't try to pass the buck so to speak.
