John's Service Company of New Bern, Inc. Reviews (11)

This company gave us an estimate to move from [redacted] to [redacted] , in New Bern, 4mile distance, of approximately 8 hours, and took 12.5 hours to do he job and charged us. We had to repeatably ask the men if they would finish in one day, because they were drinking soda, conversing on the smart phones while sitting in their truck. Even though there were plenty of blankets in the truck, very few were used to cover and protect the furniture. As the result knobs on our furniture were crushed, and other furniture pieces had major gauges and scrapes. [redacted], the owner of the business come over to checkout the damage, took pictures, took one of the crushed knobs with him and promised repair and also review of the moving time taken. Since then numerous phone calls, emails, messages, from us are being ignored and not answered.
The 2 men that moved the furniture were not experienced did not know how to load a truck, and to top it off we rented a furniture dolly for their use because they came unequipped.

We hired [redacted] to move our family in New Bern. They did not have enough trucks, though they promised they would arrange for them. Without our knowledge or permission, they loaded the same truck repeatedly and unloaded it into storage (or that's what we were told). I also had to scramble to hire additional men to come help because he didn't have enough men to do the job. Our 60 inch tv was damaged and Hunter will not return our calls despite my effort to offer a compromise. Very poor quality of service and doesn't keep his word.

damaged 65" smart TV during move. Never returns phone calls. Ran into his Former employees. They no longer work for him as he owes them thousands of dollars
Not a good way to do business

John's Service damaged a $1533.60 matress with water from a truck leak and will not make good on his promise to pay us from his own insurance claimWe signed a contract with John's Service of New Bern, NC on 9/18/2013 to move the contents from a [redacted] Storage unit [redacted] on Rt [redacted] in [redacted] NC to [redacted] - [redacted] FL. The transportation cost $3250 and additional $135 for moving insurance on the contents for full value $18,000. The contents were delivered on a very rainy morning September 25, 2013. The king size foam mattress was the last item delivered into the condo. Shortly after the two men from John Service ( one was named [redacted] )left we discovered the matress was soaked with water and we could not sleep on it. We called [redacted] and he promised to handle the insurance claim for us. As the mattress dried it started developing a bad odor. [redacted] emailed us 10/9/13 that the [redacted] truck he rented had a leak in the roof and he would file a claim against [redacted] He instructed us to get an estimate for an identical replacement mattres and forward photos of the water stains on the mattress. We did as instructed. On 10/20/2013 [redacted] emailed us that [redacted] had settled with his insurance company and the check was mailed, he would follow up and let us know if he was to receive the check and forward to us or if it would be mailed to us directly. On 10/30/13 [redacted] emailed that [redacted] settled with them and the check was mailed out last week. On 11/10/13 [redacted] emailed that " if I do not have a settlement by the end of this week, I promise I will send you the money out of my pocket "Since this date [redacted] has never returned our numerous phone calls and never replied to email requests for our check or the name of the insurance company we paid the additional money for to file our own claimWe have copies of all emails and will provide. Desired SettlementWe are seeking the the insurance reinbursement check from [redacted] for $1533.60 that he has stated he collected.

I hired Mr [redacted] on the recommendation of my realtor to move me from NC to TX. I paid him additionally for an insurance policy to protect my belongings. He stated when I met with him that he would be the one to move me with "his men". He sent three young men that I had never met to pack and move me. I assumed during the packing process that he would come, He did not. The truck broke down - and with the towing of the truck, my belongings were shifted resulting in significant damage. Furniture with broken legs, scraped wood, torn caning on chairs. After unloading I actually filled one packing box with broken glass from the various boxes that were crushed. Mr [redacted] stated to me on the phone that the truck belonged to [redacted] and they were to blame for the breakdown. He answered only one of my e-mails stating he was busy and would get back with me. He ignored every other communication. I sent a certified packet to his PO Box with pictures of all damage so that he could submit to the insurance company. The post office tells me the signature form sits in his PO Box and he is CHOOSING not to claim the package. It would cost me more to hire a lawyer and deal with legal fees than I can afford, and Mr. [redacted] is well aware of that. He moved me September 8, 2014 and this is March 2015 with no response. I paid Mr. [redacted] $5302. I did not expect him to wait for his payment. The contract says that insurance will not be billed until the contract is paid in full. I honored my contractual obligations. He did not. He was paid BEFORE we arrived in Texas. If he purchased the insurance that he sold me, all he need do is submit the documents that I submitted to him for insurance reimbursement. I submitted to him via e-mail and [redacted], all estimates for repair and he has chosen to ignore them. He has not honored his contract with me.Product_Or_Service: contract dated 2/5/2014Desired SettlementI have thus far paid more than $1,000 to repair furniture that I needed. If I repaired or replaced all of the damage, it would be at least half of what I have already paid Mr. [redacted] for moving me. I am asking that he return half my fee, or $2650. I should not have had to repeatedly ask him to honor his contract. He should not have lied to me regarding his involvement in the move and I question WHY he will not submit to insurance the damage done in this move.

Damaged goods and furniture during moving process. Movers arrived 1.5 hours late to pick up items. Upon delivery to our new home the kitchen table was destroyed beyond repair. A desk was damaged beyond repair. Two lamps were damaged beyond repair. John advised me he had talked to the insurance company and "the check was in the mail". I have called and emailed him several times over the last two months with no response. Our real estate agent that recommended him has also tried to contact him with no response. Desired SettlementThe lamp is broken at its base. $92.51Another lamp broken stem. $92.51The table has deep gouges and a chip on each side that the repair company said was not fixable. $399.00The kitchen table had the base sheared and cracked. The chairs have no blemishes or breaks. $499 for table with no chairs
