Review: On May 9, 2014 Johnson's Tree Services from [redacted] rendered services at my mothers residence in [redacted]. My mother is 90 years old, suffers from mild dementia and lives alone. Johnson's charged my mother $ 1,300.00 for the following tree work: Removed 3 small branches from a Hickory tree, the highest branch being @14'off the ground - Cost $150.00. Trimmed a Cherry tree, 4 small branches less than 1" in diameter, accomplished with hand clippers - Cost $200.00. Removed a Mulberry (base 7" diameter) tree from the yard - $350.00 and a "medium" Maple (base 9") for $600.00. The company did remove all brush and debris. I had local landscaping service look at the work. I was told the entire job should have reasonably been estimated at no more than $300.00.On mothers day May 11, 2014 I visited my mothers home and saw the bill. After checking the work, I was concerned and called Johnson's. I stated I thought they took advantage of an elderly customer, and asked them to explain the work. They had no valid response and said the crew "did work in nearly every tree", and was planning on coming back on Monday 13 to "grind the stumps". I stated I felt the stumps, 7" and 9" diameters were not worth the stress on my mother in dealing with the company returning to her home and requested that they refrain from contacting her in the future. They stated they would comply. After investigating their claim, I found no other work that had been performed in my mothers yard. I sincerely believe this company took advantage of an elderly customer.My reason for filing this complaint is to have this event documented and posted for potential customers to review and take into consideration before hiring Johnson's Tree and Landscaping Services. At this point, my mother has no desire to have anymore work done in her yard. I can't say I blame her.Desired Settlement: My reason for filing this complaint is to have this event documented and posted for potential customers to review and take into consideration before hiring Johnson's Tree and Landscaping Services. Taking advantage of the elderly is, unfortunately, a common theme today in the tree and landscaping profession. When it happens to your mother, it's very disturbing. I believe anyone that cares for their family and loved ones would want to see this prevented in the future.
