J.O.N. Construction, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: Last October (2012) I had a new roof installed by J.O.N. Siding and Roofing, Inc. [redacted], the owner, was seldon there supervising the overall project. He left [redacted] in charge, but [redacted] was not present all the time either. I paid [redacted] $12,910.00 for their work on October 9, 2012.One Monday, October 21, 2013, I hired a contractor to install new siding on my home. He started to pull the old wood side boards off the western side of the house and found much rotting wood on the roof line and all rotting wood underneath the new gutters that was also installed by J.O.N. Siding and Roofing, Inc. Our current contractor also noted that not enough ice and water shield was put down between the new roof shingles and the plywood. One Monday, October 22, 2013, I called the owner ([redacted]) of J.O.N. Siding and Roofing Co. and he had two of his employees come out at 9:30 AM October 23rd to look at the problems. They accessed the problems and they informed us that the [redacted] needed to come out and access the problems further and would get back to me ASAP. I waited a few hours and and I called again and spoke to [redacted] ([redacted]'s second-hand man) and told me that he and [redacted] would be out to look at the problem on Oct. 24th.[redacted] and [redacted] came out about 10:00 AM on October 24th and there was a heated discussion about the wood problem. [redacted] said that "Yes" there was some wood damage but then again started to deny other problems while the wood was actually flaking in his hand as he touched it. I told [redacted] if he didn't want to do any thing about the problems, that I would take it to the next level - which I am doing now - through the Revdex.com. This rotting wood would have taken more than one year to get this bad, and [redacted]'s people should have have known enough to replace the rotting wood as they went along while to do the job right in the first place. Covering up old rotten wood is a serious situation.Desired Settlement: I would like my payment of $12,910 refunded. Also for the additional payment of paying another contractor, materials, waste disposal, and also stress of dealing with this situation a year later not knowing that J.O.N. did not do their jobs professionally. Also, I never received the Golden Pledge Warrenty for the [redacted] Timberline HD Weatherwood roof. He forgot to bring it one day and I have never received it a year later.

Good morning,

In response to the [redacted] complaint submitted on 10/24/13. J.O.N. Construction did do the work on or around 10/9/12 at [redacted], [redacted] PA [redacted]. As the owner of the company I am not on every job for every minute the job is taking place. I visit each jobsite upon starting to ensure the workforce is well aware of what needs to be done. Then I make periodic stops back to the job making sure that the directions given are being carried out. At the [redacted] residence we removed the entire existing shingle roof on the house, inspected the roof deck and at certain areas of the roof (per **. [redacted]) we patched in or changed out plywood. **. [redacted] was home during the entire roofing project and took pictures of some of the work taking place. If there were areas of concern while the job was taking place it would have been in both of our best interest to be brought up at that point. Some of the wood face boards at the residence had shown decomposition, but the face boards were not in the scope of work at this time. The [redacted] were going to address this issue at a later date when they chose to have the siding work done (whether it was J.O.N. Construction or someone else). A severe storm hit the area approximately two weeks after the roofing work was completed. At this time **. [redacted] called me to inspect the damage from the storm. I had advised **. [redacted] that portions of his new shingle roof should be either repaired or replaced all together. I further went onto make **. [redacted] aware that we could not move forward with the [redacted] Golden Pledge Warranty inspection until the advised repair or replacement of materials were done. The next time that I spoke with **. [redacted] is when he called to inform me of deteriorating wood at his house. We set a date to meet at the [redacted] residence in an effort to evaluate the job and try and work out the details moving forward. When we arrived at the [redacted] residence we were shown an exposed portion of plywood (on the southeast area) from the bottom side with some decay. However, when roofing this portion is not and would not be visible and nearly impossible to determine any decay from underneath. After speaking with **. [redacted] further, I made him aware that the face boards were not part of the roofing project and not included in the scope of the work. At this point **. [redacted] became noticeably frustrated and unreasonable stating that we should leave and that he was going to take the issues to the next level. It is absolutely in our best interest to treat each and every customer and job with the upmost respect and professionalism. We are deeply regretful that the situation has taken this course.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: There are too many discrepancies. His company came back to temporarily fix the storm (Sandy) problems. His workers said they would be back to fix that particular problem when their over whelming work from the storm Sandy subsided. **. [redacted] never called to reschedule to fix the problems from the storm. I made several phone calls during the month of December - not to be returned.

The rotting wood underneath the gutters were an issue also. **. [redacted] had another contractor come in to put the new gutters on. That contractor did not indicate that the wood was rotted or that there was significant wood rot by the siding on the two ends of the house.

I called numerous times in the early Sping of 2013 to have J.O.N. Siding and Construction to come back and fix the storm problems and also to give estimates on doing our siding. I also sent and email.

The [redacted] Golden Pledge was to be given at the time when the roof was completed. The storm issues were 3 weeks after the roof was installed.

Further, we never got a written contract - just an invoice at the end of the work done.

Regards,

Business

Good afternoon,

In response to the [redacted] rejection on 12/11/13. That is correct our company did come back to perform a temporary fix from the storm issues.

In response to **. [redacted] saying “his workers said they would be back to fix that particular problem when their over whelming work from Sandy subsided”, is wrong because the “workers” don’t schedule company work. I as the owner schedule our company’s workload. If in fact the wooden face boards were rotted to the point that **. [redacted] declares they are, we would not have been able to have the gutter installed because the fasteners would not have held the gutter up. As of this date the gutter installed is still intact.

Had the gutters been fastened to rotted wood the fasteners would not have held up through ice build up in the Winter months. In regard to the siding being rotted had nothing to do with the scope of our work.

For the [redacted] Golden Pledge warranty for which we are a certified Master Elite Contractor we have up to one year from the completion date to submit the warranty. It is normal practice to wait 30-60 days to submit the warranty especially during the colder weather. This is traditionally done to ensure there is not any sealing issues with the shingles. Once that time passes then the manufacturer is contacted for the roof

inspection. Again, it is absolutely in our best interest to treat each and every customer and job with the upmost respect and professionalism.

We are deeply regretful that the situation has taken this course.
