We received the complaint from MrA***The problems with his driveway were aesthetic, not structuralWe believed a resurface was the best option for his driveway, as it would repair the appearance of the asphalt mix that originally was installed, and also provide a longer life to the driveway
However after the driveway was resurfaced, at no charge to the customer, he was unhappy with the reveal on the belgium blockWe did not install the belgium block, but it was suggested by our crew foreman that blocks vary in height, which could be causing his reveal to varyRegardless, we have already removed MrA*** driveway on October *** as he requested in order to attempt to create the block revealWe have agreed if the block is not set at the correct height, he is responsible for replacing the belgium block as needed as we cannot vary the heights of the asphalt to match his variation in belgium block heightsHe is currently scheduled to meet wi th a project manager this week, and then we will be scheduling to return for the asphalt

We are sending the crew back to the ***'s residence on Tuesday, June ***We received the complaint about the cracks and placed them back into scheduling to have the work repairedHowever, our sealcoat crew alternates each town approximately every two to three weeks, depending on the weather
When it rains, it unfortunately pushes the return date to each town back a few daysOur sealcoat crew has not been in Patchogue since the date the ***'s were initially sealcoated. It should be noted however, the "grit" and "sandy" material referenced, does not fill cracksThe slurry mixture is sprinkled over the drivewayAfter it is sprinkled over the driveway, the entire driveway is sealedWe seal the cracks, but this does not fill the cracksThin, hairline cracks are not able to be filled, only sealed to protect the water from entering the drivewayWhen our crew returns, they will inspect the size of the cracks to see if they can be filledThe slurry seal is included in the price, but we will do a crack fill if required as a one time courtesy for the customerIf the cracks cannot be filled, the crew will spread the slurry and reseal the cracks as is needed. Hope this resolution works!

I believe there was a bit of a miscommunication with [redacted]. When our estimator, Jeff, met with him, Jeff believed he did not want the area by the street or the garage door repaired as they ran the asphalt a certain way to prevent water from puddling in the driveway. However, Jeff went and met...

with [redacted] a second time last week, and we are going to send the crew back to do the repair by the garage. It should be completed before the end of next week, as long as the weather and temperatures permit work. As for the curb, [redacted] stated he did not want that changed as he ran a fence for his dog through the area and did not want to risk damaging that. In reference to the excessive amount of aggregate in the material, we have switched to using a rockier mix in the last 2 years, as we find although aesthetically it is not as attractive as a small stone mix, it does tend to last longer. Within about a year, a lot of the rocks that appear large at the surface will begin to smooth out and be less noticeable. We strive to make beautiful driveways that last, but unfortunately we do not manufacture the asphalt ourselves. If the asphalt is of poor quality, it will expose itself by unraveling and crumbling. Usually these characteristics are clear within the first 6 months. [redacted] had a resurface done on his driveway. The life of a resurface varies from driveway to driveway, but typically we see any where from 5 to 10 years as the new asphalt will begin mimicking the cracking and settling of the asphalt below it. Hopefully [redacted] will be happy with the repairs done at this home next week!

Our company mails postcards annually which states, "This is a reminder that your new asphalt driveway needs periodic maintenance." In the postcard, it does NOT state that driveway must be sealed on a yearly basis. For some driveways, it is perfectly fine to seal the driveway every year, and for...

other people, it is not advisable to seal the driveway every year. The frequency a seal coat is needed varies based on things like weather, use of salt, daily use of the driveway, sun or shade, and other factors. When we see a customer has sealed the driveway a few years in a row, we typically ask them questions, such as, "Does the driveway appear to need a seal coat? Does it still appear very black or does it appear the previous seal coat has begun to fade?" However, in the case of [redacted] we performed her first seal coat, and then she had someone else do a seal coat on the driveway, and then she called us to do another. We had no knowledge at the time that she had the driveway seal coated by someone else in between our two seal coats. Additionally, it is the homeowners' responsibility to look at their driveway and determine whether or not a seal coat is necessary to be performed on the driveway. Additionally, we do not know what type of product the other person who did the seal coat used on the driveway. We hand-brush our product on. When Jeff stated it may have been "watered down", what he was trying to explain to [redacted] was that if a company uses a sprayer to do the seal coat, it typically has more water in the mix. Seal coat is always mixed with water, but it can vary from company to company. He was not insulting the other company, simply stating a fact. Also, her neighbor may need to seal coat his driveway every year. We explained to [redacted] the seal coat will wear down a bit with time. Jeff contacted the plant where we purchase the seal coat to see if there was a so lvent or something we could place on the driveway in the areas where it appears there is too much seal coat, but they suggested the best option is to allow the seal coat to wear off naturally through use. The asphalt driveway [redacted] has is not falling apart, therefore it does not need to be removed. Jeff did not try to be rude to [redacted] but when a customer is screaming and refusing to listen, a point is reached where the conversation has become useless. He did not hang up on her, but simply stated this is the end of the conversation, as they were not getting any where. [redacted] has spoken to every member of our staff and has had the same problem. At this point, there is nothing we can do to immediately rectify the problem at her home, but as we advised her, with some time, the seal coat will wear down and the problem will go away. We do our best to warn customers about over sealing, but we also have many customers who prefer to seal coat on an annual basis, an d until the seal coat is put down, it is difficult to say, especially unknowing about what else [redacted] had done to her driveway with other companies. [redacted] called to have the driveway sealed and that is the service she received.
