Jouki's Concrete Floors Reviews (%countItem)

Hired to install 20' x 20' stamped concrete patio. We were not notified of start date - just showed up at 8 a.m. on 5/15.We had to pay for the concrete on 5/16 - we were not notified until morning off that this was the case - we had assumed that the cost of the concrete would be deducted from the invoice .When I arrived home the stamping process was almost complete. One of the workers was doing the stamping, however *** the owner was present. Approx. a 6' x 6' section was double stamped. *** blamed the coworker for double stamping - even though I saw *** standing right there next to the worker. He told us that he would be back on 5/18 between 8 and 9 a.m. to finish/seal the patio. We called him at 9:30 to get a status, he said that he was waiting for the sealer to arrive, and would it would be about an hour. He arrived around 11 a.m. with no sealer, and said that he was sorry, he had overslept which appeared to be a lie, because he told us that he wasn't there earlier because he was waiting for the sealer. The two stairs installed were noticeably unlevel causing puddling to one side of the stairs. The top stair was to be 36" wide and the bottom step to be 11" which is code. *** said that he was aware of the Massachusetts code for stairs. The top stair/landing was 37 1/2" wide and the bottom was 9". We informed him that he needed to trim off 1 1/2" off the top landing, and the stairs would be to code. He arrived days later, and cut the top stair without measuring and made it 34". He then came back a couple of weeks later to patch the top stair - which is not acceptable as concrete does not bond to concrete - as well as it looks like a patch, and it's still not to code. He drilled three 1/2" holes for drainage which immediately clog up with debris. We looked up how puddling is be addressed, and saw that one hole of about 2" is to be made with a screen/strainer over it to keep debris out.He said that he would be back on 5/24 - which was a sunny day, he did not show nor contact us.After we reached him, he said that he'd be back on 5/31 which was another sunny day. At around 4:45 he said that he was on his way and should be at our home in about an hour. We got home at 730 p.m. he had not showed up. I called him and he said that he was stuck in traffic and that he would be here the next day. I told him that I just wanted him to come when he said he was going to, and just finish the job.....he started shouting saying that he couldn't come when he said because the weather wasn't good (which one of the days he said the he was going to come on a Tuesday it did rain) but it was sunny all the other days that he said that he was going to come. He was yelling saying that he had to do a job that day without help and that I was being unreasonable. He also mentioned that we told him that we were not going to pay him any more money....so I asked him which was it? The weather or not getting any more money? Speaking of the balance due, he and my husband had a verbal agreement that because of the very poor job thus far, *** didn't expect the full price and just had to break even, and not loose money on the job. *** DID NOT come back the next day - he did come by on June 2 to finish the job. His idea of finished was unlevel stairs which cause a puddle that does not drain properly - which are not to code; double stamped pattern in some sections, and the stain he put on had splashes of white bleach looking spots, rust looking sections, along with three other colors. And where he patched the stairs was even worse, some of the stain didn't take at all.

Desired Outcome

Other (requires explanation) We would like a refund of $2,000.00 We paid $1,619.38 for concrete, and $1,150.00 to Jouki's Concrete Floors. We are going to need funds to repair the stairs - which requires destroying and pouring new concrete, and product to remove the sealer and reapply a new sealer. We would also like other consumers out there to be aware of this company's poor workmanship and ethics.

Customer Response • Jun 18, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We have submitted the picture of the patio pattern and color that we chose. We have also submitted the picture of the patio we ended up with.

We requested two 36" x 8' stairs. The top stair was 37 1/2", the bottom stair was 9". We reminded him that the code for a stair was 36" because the door opens out. So we told him if he just cut off 1 1/2" from the top stair, both stairs would be to code. He cut off too much, I don't believe that he even took the time to measure. He then came back to patch it. I can take a close up picture of that for you to review. And if he didn't use a bonding agent, that patch will crumble off within months. Another thing that a reputable contractor would know.

The concrete color was uneven, which was noticeable the same day it was poured.

I feel that we were VERY reasonable in our requests. We will not let him come back - we brought issues to him that weren't correct as soon as we saw them. He said that he would fix them. He did not.

For example: Three small holes for drainage, is unacceptable, and not the practice of reputable concrete patio stampers.
An area about 4 x 6' double stamped.
He stated on at least 3 different dates that he would be back to finish, he did not show up or call. And those Fridays were sunny! Rain was not an excuse.

We are asking for $2,000
To hire a contractor to break down the stairs, that are not to code (and have a patch).
We will have to hire a contractor to build us two new stairs.
We will have to pay to strip/remove the existing sealer that he applied
Pay to apply a new sealer

Respectfully submitted

I placed and stamped a patio with 2 steps after it was done they said the steps were 12 inches was not wide enough for them so I went back and cut off 2 inches then they said it was to wide so I went back again and built an inch with high density cement then they did not like the color so obviously they don't want to pay me so I don't know what to do for them anymore

I tried my best to satisfy *** she still refuses to pay me the 2500.00 balance
