Dear Sir or Madam:I am writing asking you to reopen this complaint I was recently in a serious motor vehicle accident and am only just now returning to my work/life routine The response from the business came as I was recuperating from my injuries as did your decision to close the file I do need to reply to the response offered by the business If granted the opportunity to reply, please consider the following:Factually, there is no difference between J&B Contracting and JRL Remodeling Jason L [redacted] was the owner of J&B and the owner of JRL He simply formed a new LLC to cover his tracks to avoid the scandals generated when he offered business as J&B Jason mentions "change orders." There were no change orders When he first visited the project we discussed with him that there were two options for the design of the bathroom based on whether or not the toilet could be located on an opposite wall and was asked to keep this in mind when bidding the project or to offer two bids based on the alternative design Jason told us that the relocation of the toilet was certainly possible and there would be no price difference.Jason did not do a complete tear out of the existing bathroom I had already completed about 80% of the demolition myself Jason did complete the tear out leaving the debris piled on my patio and driveway Ultimately, I was forced to hire help to clean up his mess and rent a bagster for the removal of the debris.Jason did update the joists and subfloor He did install three valves, but changed the bench design without first consulting me The only part of this that was a change was the installation of a third shower control valve Jason did re-wire the bathroom as that was part of the original proposal The presence of BX cable was clearly evident when he visited to project and new wiring as always a part of the contract He installed three light fixtures and an exhaust fan, but none of the wiring was finished to the breaker panel. The project was recently inspected and it has been determined that Jason did not install the shower diverters and controls according to relevant building codes improperly mixing materials in a manner that would result in leaks behind the walls. The small amount of tile work was also inspected First, the tile was improperly installed in the corners I had discussed his with Jason who told me that he installed it properly It must all be removed and replaced The shower itself was inspected and must all be removed as Jason improperly installed the walls and floor using the wrong type of drain system I am still waiting for the electrical inspection, but the fact that he did not run the electrical line to the breaker panel so that he could use the installed lights is a serious concern. The waterproofing Membrane on the walls and mortar bed must be removed and properly done.As mentioned above, the shower bench was a part of the original discussion and not an extra Jason and I had discussed prior to the work that all change orders must be in writing with a stated price and signed by both parties.Jason did not run the electrical to the panel He simply left wires dangling in the basement I have no idea what he means when he says that the "hole (sic) house not grounded A new amp panel was installed in the basement and a amp panel in the garage by a licensed electrical contractor when the house was purchased That system had to be installed and inspected prior to closing as mandated by the mortgage company.Tiles were set on the wall but the corners were improperly and sloppily set What is done is less than 30% of the total tile work required Since the shower walls, floor and membrane must be removed to satisfy the code, all of the tile must be removed and replaced at a total materials cost of $1,plus tax and shipping I had purchased all of the tile materials needed including a special thinset designed for the tumbled marble Jason chose not to use this choosing another product, which, as it turns out, is not to be used with Terra nuova brushed marble.I'm uncertain why Jason mentions the vanity He had not even installed the floor or finished the walls He had not grouted anything The vanity was ordered and held by the cabinet maker until the room was ready to receive it.I had to be in Florida for work and combined that with a week vacation Jason was aware of this He actually had said that the project might be finished prior to that date, but he did not come to the job for any five consecutive days often not showing up and not telling us that he was not coming On most days that he was there he arrived after and left before I just couldn't trust him in my home unsupervised Then when my own Dewalt tool battery charger went missing from the work area, I was very concerned about unsupervised work I am not accusing Jason of removing it It just happened that it went missing during his last week of work I never got a chance to ask him about it because he did not return to the job.Jason did not return he made numerous promises to be there on different sates after my return from Florida, but did not come at any of the promised dates and times On the final time I called him when he did not show up He was nasty and insulting to me and my wife and still refused to give me a date an time when he would return to the job It was after that conversation that I notified him not to return.I am an attorney, but I am not trying to bully anyone Jason is a dishonest contractor who has a past he must hide from I was very understanding that he moved on to other jobs and was more than willing to accommodate this, but he promised to be back at the job numerous times and did not once keep those promises. As stated before, there were no change orders There was no discussion of change orders with the exception of the additional shower valve. As a further example of his dishonesty, Jason stated that he wrote a published article called, "Construction Curveball" that was nationally published That article was actually written by [redacted] for Angie's List, the service that has banned Jason Had he even read the article Jason would have understood that change orders must be in writing He was quoted in that article as "president and owner of J&B Affordable Design and Remodeling" discussing how late change orders "can affect the customer and contractor relationship." He should certainly have known that I would do my research when he responded to my complaint. What do I want from Jason? Just refund the second installment I paid just before he quit the job I can then apply that to the $20,000+ charge I will incur to fix the shoddy work he performed[redacted] [redacted] ***

Dear Sir or Madam:I am writing asking you to reopen this complaint.  I was recently in a serious motor vehicle accident and am only just now returning to my normal work/life routine.  The response Dear To whom it may concern,My name is Jason l[redacted] president of JRL remodeling. I first want to start out by saying it would be premature to judge JRL remodeling from looking at J&b Remodeling. J&b had two owners I being one and did not hold all ownership of it. Decisions were not just based...

on my points of views but others. To start out my rebuttal on this matter I want to say that JRL remodeling this year has done over 60 jobs including 45 bathrooms. [redacted] bathroom is not a normal insistent and for 99 percent of customers the projects run smoothly. I'll paraphrase this jobJRL starts project including work completed.Complete tear out of bathroom floor, walls etc bathroom size was a little over 8 ft by 88 inchesElectrical was also removed type non grounded armored cable. Complete removal of all plumbing components.Installed all new plumbing from rough in to stack pipe changing locations from vanity, shower and toilet. Ran new plumbing to basement. Updated joists to non t p style joists to 2x8 12 inch on center. Ran new subfloor, plaster base type kal kore on ceiling walls and complete insulated walls and ceiling for soundproofing. Installed three rough in valves For enlarged shower from original contract and design. Bench installed in shower altered from design. Rough in for rain shower head and multiple body sprays. Lights installed in Ceiling and exast fan. Electrical ran to basement could not use original bx cable. Again upgrade.hard coat ceiling/lime finish..frame ceiling, doorway to old closet  and hardcoat/lime finish-Window was set in opening-waterproofing membrane was applied to walls and band around mortar bed on shower floor-mortar bed was set-bench seat in shower was set another extra not paid for-electrical run to panel box in basement for bathroom replacing bx cable (another not paid for.)electrical was not safe. In fact hole house not grounded.Tile set on diamond pattern around room half way up walls. This is just some of the work our company performed and I could go into more detail.[redacted] was also supposed to have vanity at site but did not of the entire course of job. He also did not have rough  in valves trim kits or any lighting. When JRL remodeling started [redacted]s job we intended on being there the entire job not leaving. [redacted] changed his mind about having us work through his vacation last minute with no notice to me. We were forced to pack up and leave. We returned to work when he got back 14 days later and continued setting tile. We had to leave 3 days later because our schedule had already prior commitments to other jobs that were prescheduled before [redacted]s job and [redacted] was told this. [redacted] was told we would return the Tuesday after Easter. [redacted] did not like this and canceled the contract via email and mail. [redacted] needs to understand when you get out of line you have to wait your turn. We intended on working through his vacation which he affirmed before the project he affirmed this wouldn't be a problem. This wasn't the case and affected our schedule and other customers immensely. [redacted] is trying to use his attorney power to bully my company and get his own way just because he wanted to cut back in line. [redacted] also owes my company money as we were paid up to what we had done plus 2000 in extras. [redacted] has a problem with paying for change orders and never expected I guess to pay for any of them. When you go to a car dealer and ask for the upgrades you have to pay for them it's just the way it is. Same applies in this case. Just because your an attorney doesn't give you any special rights more than a average person. I would put my company up against any in Pittsburgh. The home improvement law has destroyed good companys through one person lying and manipulating the system through their own selfish means. When I worked for J&b I wrote a nationally published article on change orders. Called "construction curveball" maybe more peopleNeed to read it and understand what they are. In this case this is more of a theft of service case than anything. [redacted] never intended on paying for any upgrades and used his power to make sure that happened. Shame on you company's thatUphold these lies. I have completed over 700 bathrooms since 2003 we have helped many people accomplish there dream bathrooms for less than most contractors. I have over 120 A ratings through Angie's list when my company was on there. I have super service awards from 2011-2014. What's funny is the minute [redacted] found out my company was accredited through Revdex.com he tried to drag it down two weeks after this. Again ashame that Revdex.com doesn't see this. The proofIs all there. My company never canceled this contract [redacted] did. In fact what's funny is we started this job back in the winter and [redacted] didn't even have the vanity at his house by Easter. He never intended on having this project done in a timely manner only on his time not worrying about my schedule or any other customers. The facts are there ask for them. Thanks ....Jason l[redacted]-Sent from my iPhone
