Jumping Jack Cash

I am the daughter, filing this complaint on my mother's behalf, for I am witness to the business transaction.

She has been a customer of Jumping Jack Cash for 8 years. The manager, then, made an offer that she was to pay only 10% (vs. 20%) monthly interest on her pawned items—if she became their customer. She agreed, it was noted in their system that she is to pay only 10%, and payment records show she's been doing so ever since.

Over the years, there has been turn around in managers, but they have always honored this agreement with my mother, up until recently. For the past few months the staff would try to get her to pay 20% in the middle of an established loan, and oftentimes had to have the manager point out the note in their computer system and "re-authorize" the 10% agreement.

In December, I went with her for a new pawn— an 18K gold necklace for $400. Although new customers are to pay 20% interest, the manager reassured us that she will continue pay 10%, and further showed me in their computer where it is noted in the event a new employee was collecting the interest payment, or the manager that authorized this most recent pawn, was not available to vouch for her.

Last week, she went in alone to pay the interest ($40), and the manager was on vacation. The staff argued with her that she had to pay 20% ($80)- even with the note in the system. She was then told to come in on Tuesday (2/25) to speak with the manager. Come Tuesday, the manager (not the one she has worked with in the past) complained about the agreement being outdated, reluctantly accepted the 10%, and warned that March is 20%- no exceptions.

Our complaint is that they baited her with 10%, only to switch to 20% in the middle of her loan, breaching the original contract. Basically they lied to her. She pawned her necklace with the understanding of 10%. If it was suppose to be 20%, that should be clearly stated in the beginning, so she would of had that choice to do her business elsewhere.
