Mr*** moved locally within Rhode island with storage at our ** ***, RI warehouse for three monthsOn these types of moves we offer two valuation options one is thirty cents per pound the other is declared value coverage, we do not offer replacement value coverage within the state of Rhode
Island The declared value coverage cost is $per $in value declared and is depreciatory in nature the thirty cent per pound coverage is at no additional cost to the customerOn the day of pickup for storage Mr*** was presented a form titled “Truth in Coverage Statement” the form clearly spells out the limits of our liability, the customer is asked to read the form then sign and date under the valuation he selectedAt the time of pickup Mr*** selected and signed for thirty cents per pound he later contacted our office and changed his coverage to declared value $20,at a cost of $per month it was clearly explained on the phone and on the form that this was a depreciated value coverage The delivery out of storage to his new home took place on 8/1/at the time of delivery no damage or shortages were noted on the paperworkOn 8/2/Mr*** contacted our office to report that after unpacking he discovered his 50” television had been damaged beyond repairHe was sent a claim form via email that day and returned it to us on 8/3/ The damaged TV was purchased in 2012, it is a bit difficult to determine the depreciated value or current value of a television since the useful lifespan of a TV is not predictableThat being said we simply searched for pricing of an exactly matching television currently for sale on several web sites including but not limited to ***, The same year, make and model television that was damaged in good working condition is currently selling for between $and $We used the higher end of the scale and determined the depreciated/current value of Mr***’s television to be $400.00, we added $to that amount as a good will gesture to a valued customer and sent him a final settlement of $on 8/11/We feel this is a more than a fair settlement for a television purchased in and most likely a sufficient amount to fully replace a television that size with one of equal or better quality today
