JVL Electric Reviews (%countItem)

of JVL Electric was contracted to install exterior lights to illuminate the parking lot of our condo building. Mr. did not provide professional advise or guidance but presented only one option for our needs. He confirmed that the lights would be installed in a slanted position to shine outwards towards the parking areas that were dark. He installed the lights but not in a slanted position as agreed, he installed them pointing only towards the building and the parking row closest to the building which already had some lighting. The rows that were in the dark remained in the dark. After multiple meetings and verbal agreement that he would come back and fix his error, he stopped communicating with our condo board and did not come back to correct his failure.

The board contracted Mr. on the referral of our building manager, *** of Live Florida, who vouched for him as a personal friend. It was only after the job was done that it became apparent that Mr. is a young man without much experience with business or electrical services. He does not take his or our business seriously or sincerely. We are now in the process of hiring another business to remedy his error which means we will have to pay twice for the one project. We advise other businesses and individuals not to have faith in the work or word of Mr. or JVL Electric LLC.

Desired Outcome

Billing Adjustment Since Mr. is not willing to fix his error or complete the contract correctly, we would like to see some of the cost refunded back to our condo board/association. This seems only fair since we have to pay for a full proposal from another business to do the project.

JVL Electric Response • Aug 27, 2020

On January 22nd, 2020 I was contracted to install 4 Wall LED Lights at Lago #2 Building #5. I met with *** and ***, and *** on multiple occasions mid January. First during the day to see where they wanted to position the lights. Then they wanted to meet during the evening to see where they wanted to position the lights, so they could see where they wanted the most illumination. During our meetings, before installation I advised them that where they wanted the lights positioned may not get the maximum illumination because of the trees in the way. She decided to go with how she wanted the lights after my recommendation. After my advisement we agreed to position the 4 lights during a verbal conversation with all parties present. After the work was done, *** said 2 lights she liked the position and the other 2 lights she wanted to move, as she didn't think the parking lot was illuminated enough after they were installed. I agreed to re-locate the 2 lights for an additional cost of $250.00, but they never agreed. They would like a refund because they had another company making the changes, but they did not change anything, they just added more lights. They never asked for additional lights, only wanted to move 2 of the 4 existing lights I installed. I have installed 26 lights (4 buildings in the same complex) before working on ***'s building. I also installed 2 other lights in her building with no issues from previous work. They are the same lights in all 4 buildings that she see's every night, so she knows how bright they illuminate.

I installed the lights January 22, 2020, but did not receive payment until April 4, 2020. I have had no issues with any other buildings in the complex. She came to me to do the work for her building because she liked how the other buildings looked lighted up at night. I did the same with her building as every other building. I am fair with my jobs, and don't believe there is any reimbursement that I should give for the work performed, as it was done exactly the way she wanted it during our face to face verbal meetings. If photos needed will send upon request.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
During our meetings, *** did not provide recommendations on how best to install the lights other than to cut down some of our trees in one area. The Board requested that the lights be put in on a slant (where there were no trees blocking the lights) so they would illuminate the dark areas (we believed that would resolve our problem), and he confirmed that he could and would do so. But he did not install them as agreed. If he could not have done so, he should have told us and recommended a better solution, but in his inexperience he did not assist us as he should have. Though he installed the lights in January, he did not correct his error, just wanted more money, and basically ignored us after that, so payment was not finalized until April when we gave up on his services. We are now working with Razorback Electric and are very satisfied with their guidance, pricing and work. They did confirm that installing the lights at a slant was not recommended since they would not be stable. If *** had informed us of that in the beginning we would not have suggested that solution, but he confirmed that he could do so for us. He did not give us the benefit of expert knowledge or experience. We don't expect to get a refund or satisfaction from *** but truly hope that he takes this opportunity to learn and become more professional in his business. Best of luck in the future, ***.
