K9 Ponderosa

I would like to commend Scott and his handling of my "granddog. We discovered K9Ponderosa by watching a story about their services on Channel 4 a couple of years ago. We took [redacted] up there who was not good around other dogs and very timid. My daughter and I did training with Scott and although it didn't all take it did improve [redacted]'s demeanor and behavior in general. If Scott trains your dog he will also board your dog. We have boarded [redacted] there 4 times and each time it has worked out very well. The last time I took [redacted] to drop her off she didn't even look back at me as I drove away. K9 Ponderosa is out in the country and there are lots of places for the dogs to run around. [redacted] even runs without a collar on. All the facilities are very clean and there isn't even a dog smell that we have experienced at other places. I would highly recommend K9 Ponderosa for dog training and dog boarding (but remember you need to be a client to have that service.). We are very pleased and do not worry about [redacted] at all while we are away from her.

We took our 4 month old pure bred German Shepherd to K-9 Ponderosa for primary training and e-collar training. We live very near a major highway and wanted to make certain as best we could that our dog would listen to us and we would have a way to keep him from the highway. I am very pleased with K-9 Ponderosa and the training they provided. We have a very well balanced German Shepherd, listens to commands and has no anxieties nor any aggressive behaviors. We even take our dog back to K-9 Ponderosa for boarding, and our dog loves to go. I highly recommend K-9 Ponderosa for your dog training needs.

My Old English Bull Dog puppy is currently being trained at the K 9 Ponderosa. [redacted] has sent me pictures and updates on his performance. I feel confident that my dog is being loved and well taken care of by his staff. He seems to care more about dogs than most doctors care about the humans they treat. I can't wait to pick up my puppy in a few more days. I have no doubt that I made a good decision trusting [redacted] to train my baby.

Scott trained my dog [redacted] a few years back. [redacted] was uncontrollable and would not listen. Now, we can walk [redacted] off leash, he stays, comes, sits, lays down, etc. With continued work on our part to reinforce Scott's training, we have a great family dog with little stress. I would recommend Scott's training techniques to anyone needing more control and less stress in their life.

We had such an amazing experience with K9 Ponderosa from the very first visit. My puppy was acting aggressively after suffering an illness and early trauma in her first short weeks of life. After the initial visit there, we knew that sending our puppy to K9 Ponderosa was the right and only thing to do, otherwise we would have had to take her to a shelter. We were desperate at this moment and knew that she couldn't even be placed in another home, and that no one would adopt her. He was supposed to take her a few weeks after our visit, but after a couple of emails letting him know our situation and her biting had gotten much worse and out of control, he told us to "bring her tomorrow." He gave us so much hope and comfort in a really bad situation. I felt so relieved and knew she was in great hands. She was there for almost 5 weeks and she was treated so well and with such kindness. When we would go for family visits, we could see her changing before our eyes and he was also very friendly to my 3 children and to us, teaching us what we needed to do differently and preparing us to take her home. He always spoke to our dog with a sweet, calm voice and we could tell how much she loved him, and he loved her. Once we went for the last visit to take her home, he worked with us for almost 2 hours to show us how to continue guiding her at home and what to do to continue the training. At that time he also reassured us again that we would not be left alone now and that we would have more visits, including one at our house. To be honest it was very scary to take her home and we needed that reassurance. Scott is a very kind, generous, and loving person and he is an extraordinary dog trainer. Without him, I have no doubt that our sweet little dog would no longer be here. Through teaching her boundaries and training her, he brought out her true, loving personality and she is the happiest and sweetest dog now. He truly saved her life.
We also only use him to board our dog and she gets to be in a loving environment to take walks and spend time with people who love her instead of being boarded in a kennel all day. We feel very safe having her there and he even sends us pictures while we are away so we can see the fun she is having.
I highly recommend K9 Ponderosa to anyone looking for an amazing trainer. Not only is it the most beautiful, spacious place that any dog would love, but all the people who work there are truly awesome!

I bought my little dog from a store in Westerville several years ago, and part of the package was two training sessions from K9 Ponderosa held at the pet store. After the two sessions, I decided to have [redacted] do additional training and she went for several weeks for personal training at the K9 Ponderosa. When I went to pick her up, I was amazed at how in the short weeks she had learned the commands of "come," "sit," "stay" and "place." She was under 6 months of age when she went and she absolutely loved [redacted] -- he definitely has a connection with dogs -- I call him the gentle "dog whisperer" because he never raises his voice. He talks in a calm way but dogs know he is in charge -- he gains their confidence and affection while teaching them things that the owner needs them to do but has no knowledge or skills of how to do it. Even after I picked up my little one, when I needed to go away for a temporary work situation or a vacation, I always called [redacted] to see if he could accommodate my time requirements -- and he always did. One of my longest work assignments out of country was for 9 weeks, and almost on a daily basis, [redacted] either sent me a photo or an e-mail telling me how little one was doing. Since my dog is a huge part of my life, I would never leave her with anyone who did not treat her like a little princess -- she's a heart stealer. Even when she was naughty and ran to someone else to greet them when she was supposed to be in a "stay" position -- [redacted] would talk with her and get her attention back to what she was supposed to be doing. My vet is excellent and has boarding facilities, but I never used their services simply because I wanted little one to go to K9 Ponderosa. She wanted to be with the "big dogs" and walk the trails -- something she doesn't get to do at home -- she was in her element at the Ponderosa.
It's reassuring to me to know that when I have to leave my little one that I have someone that I trust completely to care for her and keep her safe and happy until I can get back to pick her up.
There are a lot of training places for dogs, but I want to know that my baby is safe and happy and being treated with respect and kindness -- and I never ever worry about that when she's with [redacted]. It's like giving something precious to someone to care for -- you want the absolute best person to take care of them temporarily while you are away -- and I give [redacted] the highest recommendation both as a trainer and as a kind person to care for any dog. I think he's the best and I give him the highest recommendation possible.

We had a wonderful experience at K9 Ponderosa. We took our 4 month old, high energy puppy for a two week, overnight off leash and e-collar training. Our dog learned so much and is now able to accompany us on all our vacations, walks and outings including concerts, parties etc. Our dog learned to be well behaved with loving training. We receive so many compliments on how well trained and behaved our dog is, and we owe it all to K9 Ponderosa and recommend it to all of our friends. Our dog has also been great with our now 2 year and 3 month old kids, due to his great training. The training provided enables you to make your dog really a part of your life, in all circumstances. Will definitely use for our next dog!

Please do your research about true positive reinforcement training. I did not do enough research and fell for all the talk and treat giving. Prong collars, E-collars and choke chain 'corrections' are never part of positive reinforcement based training. You don't need those things. They cause fear and anxiety. I sent my pup to K9 thinking it was the best thing for her. Now I have a reactive, resource guarding dog who will snap and bite because she has been treated with pain and punishment in her early months. I regret ever sending her to K9 Ponderosa. Look for true behaviorists who understand that pain and fear may get your dog to 'behave' but only out of fear, not a true understanding of commands.

We took our 4 month old, high energy Doberman to K9 Ponderosa for training on and off leash as well as e-collar. Scott, the owner/trainer, helped us love our dog again. He gave us very practical ways to help keep up training at home, and he is always quick to help us with problems we may have with our dog. We also kennel our dog at K9 Ponderosa when we go out of town, and our dog gets so excited when we pull up the drive because she knows where we are and knows she gets to run with the pack and see Scott. We have only ever had positive interactions with both Scott and his wife, and I would recommend his services to everyone. He really knows a lot about dog psychology and is eager to pass that on to help in the training process.
