An associate of ours and her husband had brought both of her two weimaraners to KRefine on Saturday August 2nd for their two-week boarding and training. They received a request from Kafter one week of having their dogs in the program for them to pick up one of their dogs, ***. They wanted *** to continue the remaining week of training at home. When my friend and her husband went to pick up *** on Saturday August 9th, they requested to see their other dog, ***. They found *** in very bad shape and observed the following conditions: dried blood all around her nose which made her breathing difficult, abscesses were in and around her mouth, dehydration was apparent, open sores were present on several pressure points on her legs and stomach, and extreme weakness throughout her body and swelling in her rear legs making it difficult for the dog to stand and walk. *** *** at Kinformed them at that time that *** had only eaten once within the days she was at their facility. He admitted she appeared sick and could not complete her daily exercises.
My friends immediately took her to their local emergency vet the evening of August 9th. That same evening they called me to let us know the condition of her dog and sent me pictures of ***. We informed *** via text message that evening that we would be coming the following morning August 10th to pick up *** and requested a refund for the remaining week that she would not continue to be boarded or trained. We could not, in good faith, keep our dog at their facility knowing that they were negligent in taking proper care of the dogs they agreed to care for. Due to their lack of seeking proper medical treatment or advising *** owners of her condition, *** passed away on August 13th as she has lost mobility in her legs and her vital organs had shut down. *** owners have taken their own action against KRefine
*** called my husband, *** ***, on Sunday August 10th to find out what was going on since he was currently out of town and *** *** of KRefine was running the program at their facility in New Kent. *** advised *** that he would get it taken care of when he returned to town on Saturday August 16th. *** called and texted *** on August 16th in regard to our refund of $for the week that we pulled *** from the program. At this time, *** *** called *** and advised we would not be receiving a refund and was quite belligerent and unprofessional over the phone.
On Tuesday August 19th *** texted *** ***, cc: *** ***, and myself and requested a copy of what I signed when we dropped off *** on August 2nd. We advised that
if they did not reply that I would go by their facility that evening or on Wednesday August 20th to pick up a hard copy of the paperwork I signed. The response we received from *** via text message was “Haha”. *** also texted us that we breached the contract by removing *** from the program and are no longer entitled to any part of KRefines services. We advised *** and *** that according to our phone conversation with the Attorney General of Virginia, we are entitled to a copy of the paperwork and contract that we signedAt this time *** texted us that this would be the last response through text that we receive and we are more than welcome to call *** and myself have these texts on our phones and can prove the conversation
The afternoon of August 19th *** personally called *** to apologize for the *** behavior and said he would refund us the $to settle the disagreement. We asked for this in writing. *** *** and *** emailed us the contract they requested we sign stating that they agreed to refund us the amount of $325.00. We received the email that day and signed the document and emailed it back to *** (copy of email and signed agreement attached).
Since that time we have not been able to receive a reply via text, email, or *** messaging from them. We refuse to discuss any matters over the phone with them as we want everything discussed in writing. At this point we advised them we would be contacting the Revdex.com in regard to this dispute.
In regard to their response to Revdex.com that we only paid them $total is dishonest and fraudulent. We are not disputing our agreement for the training of *** that we paid $and he completed the two-week training. Our dispute is in regards to the training and agreement for *** which we paid $and they did not have us sign a contract. This company has been extremely unprofessional in handling this disagreement. In my opinion, they do not practice good business ethics and should not be allowed to board dogs at their facility when they do not require the dogs to be fully vaccinated and crate them in close quarters to each other. I have photograph proof that *** came home with a rash on her stomach. We did seek an opinion from a veterinary but were not able to make an appointment with them within the week we received her back from K9.
At this time, we would request the Revdex.com to continue to seek action against KRefine in regard to our refund. I will be filing a complaint today September 23, with the Attorney General of Virginia in regard to KRefine and request that their company be further investigated for fraudulent business practices. I will also be contacting local animal rights organizations to investigate the practices and procedures run by KRefine to make sure that no other animals are neglected in their care.

*** ***

Review: We hired K9 Refine to train our dog, [redacted]. The agreement was they would keep her during the two weeks of training. After the first week we became aware that another dog in their care became extremely ill. The owners of that dog were not notified and medical attention was not sought by K9 Refine, which resulted in the dog passing away. We advised K9 we would be pulling [redacted] from the program at the end of the first week and requested a refund for the second week we prepaid for. K9 advised us in writing that they agreed to refund us the amount of $325.00 and we can provide proof of that agreement. This agreement was done on August 19, 2014. Since that time, [redacted], CEO of K9 Refine, has refused to reply to any of our attempts at contacting him in regard to our refund. We have tried calling, text messaging, emailing, and messaging him through [redacted], as well as [redacted] (COO of K9 Refine), have also refused to provide us a copy of our signed contract for [redacted].Desired Settlement: We would like to receive our refund of $325.00 that [redacted] of K9 Refine agreed to. We did advise him through text message on August 27th that if he did not reply to our request by August 29th we would be contacting the Revdex.com as well as the Attorney General of Virginia. We have not heard back from anyone K9 Refine since that request.

• We hired [redacted] to train our two dogs through a 2 week board and train program. When we arrived to drop off our dogs as scheduled we were greeted by [redacted] brother, [redacted]. We were told [redacted] was in Charlotte for the week helping another trainer. After speaking with [redacted] he assured us his brother was a trainer for the company and had been doing this for 6 years so we signed the contract/medical release forms and left our dogs in his care. That week we received a call from [redacted] telling us that one of our dogs was ready to be picked up early but that our other dog still needed more training so she would need to stay the full 2 weeks. When we arrived to pick up our dog [redacted] brought him outside and proceeded to show us what he "learned". When we asked to see our other dog we found her in terrible shape (heavily panting, dried blood in & around her nose, open sores on all pressure points, rash on chest, swollen hind limbs to the point she could barely walk). [redacted] immediately told us he thought she had allergies and stated he had been giving both our dogs [redacted] We immediately took both our dogs from his care and rushed to the emergency vet. According to the vet, our dog was in final stages of dehydration and was running a very high fever in addition to the other obvious symptoms. After treating her for a week the vet told us there was nothing more they could do as her body was shutting down so we made the heart-wrenching decision to put her down and end her suffering. When [redacted] was notified he agreed to cover the vet bills and stated [redacted] had been fired. His sympathy quickly faded and a few weeks later he decides he is not responsible and stops answering our calls. [redacted] also appears to still be an active employee based on some other recent reviews. We have since filed a suit in smalls claims court and the judge ruled in our favor. [redacted] continues to ignore our calls so we will be going back to court to have the ruling enforced. If you love your babies DO NOT TRUST this man or anyone working for K9 Refine!! We will be contacting the media/animal rights organizations to spread the word about this company. Per his website he now operates out of Virginia, Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina!!
