Ms*** hired us for a bathroom remodel. She signed a contract on 2/20/for a bathroom estimated to cost $22,900. She was given a breakdown of the material allowances she could spend and it was explained to her that if she exceeded these allowances the price would change for
materials. When Ms*** purchased some materials she asked if we would take off the price that she paid for the materials the tile store. We said that we gladly would. Her contract was reduced and the wording for the materials changed at her request. We revised the contract again when she purchased materials at the plumbing store. last contract revision 4/18/ She refused to pay for the materials until she could inspect the items herself so she caused many delays in the project. She asked me to go and inspect items and even after I did she refused to pay the tile store. The store told me that this is highly irregular. About weeks into the project Ms*** wanted a monetary discount since she purchased the items herself. She said that we did not give her enough credit for the items she paid for. I explained the contract to her again and she kept insisting we give her money off. I decided to keep her happy and I offered her $2,off her project. She said that she wanted $3,and she refused my offer and told me I was ripping her off. She became belligerent and raised her voice and would not let me talk to her. I politely told her that she needed to calm down and we could "work something out" She said her husband would call me and I said that would not be a problem as long as he was polite. He never called. Ms*** told me not to go into her house or I would be trespassing. Then she refused us access on the day we agreed to clean up and get our tools. She kept all of the materials that she paid for AND all of the materials that we paid for. She threw our tools into the drivewayDuring one of our phone conversations Ms*** admitted that her new contractor was charging less money. Now we understand why she wanted us out. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowMrMcontinues not to address the real issues as to why we did not have him finish the bathroom and had to get away from him to cut our losses. MrMwas hired to remodel the original bathroom of a house built in 1990, there was no previous work done, it was the original bathroom. He did not have to bring anything to code. He had to do the electrical work to put radiant heating as specified in the contract. The subfloor was not replaced, he made it sturdier so it would not flex with the weight of the tile since it had linoleum before and it is a 2nd floor bathroom. MrMkept changing the terms of the original contract that I signed, he sent me at least additional contracts, none of which I signed. He even asked for all the money upfront, which we would have never trusted him to put in an escrow account. As it turns out, we eventually heard of other customers who were not satisfied with his work and we want to make sure that other people who may be looking to have a remodeling project are more careful and less trusting than we were, and most importantly, do not agree to give so much money up front for very little labor. We were fortunate to find someone who was willing to finish what MrMstarted, including making corrections to some of the work done by him, and finish the bathroom without asking for any money until he was done. Electrical code requires a new electric line for a heated floor.  An additional subfloor was added to the existing one.  I never changed any terms of the contract.  Ms. [redacted] paid for some items herself and I adjusted to contract to reflect the new, LOWER, price she was to pay due to this.  I did not ask for the money up front.  When Ms. [redacted] was screaming at me and saying she should have the money in escrow I told her she could pay the entire amount and we would place the money in escrow but there would be additional legal fees that she would have to incur.  She is an unreasonable woman and lies.  There are no other customers that have complained and she would not know any of my customers anyway.  She lives hours from our normal work area.  Thank you for your time.
