Kansas City Performance Diesel Reviews (3)

I am rejecting this response because: After removing the necessary parts to get to the head, Kansas City Performance Diesel initially told my husband that the block was okay It wasn't until SEVERAL DAYS AFTER they got the head back and tried to put it back on, that they realized the short block had to be machined KCPD stated that they would not warranty the head gasket repair unless the deck surface of the block was also machined This not only caused the first delay, but it made my husband wonder why KCPD erroneously told him that the block was okay in the first place, when it wasn't It also made my husband wonder how dedicated KCPD's technicians were to working on and completing the engine overhaul Secondly, my husband asked the owner/manager several times for a written estimate as to how much it would cost for the entire overhaul, and we did not receive an estimate until Wednesday, February 18th--AN ENTIRE MONTH AFTER our truck had been in their shop This caused the second delay The estimate that we finally received, stated that they would need $1,as a down payment to get the rest of the parts I delivered a $1,check to them on Tuesday, February 24th--LESS THAN A WEEK after we received the written estimate At that point, my husband and I had written two personal checks to Kansas City Performance Diesel totalling $2,400, and BOTH CHECKS CLEARED THE BANK without a problem KCPD has not regularly kept in contact with us about the repairs of our truck My husband and I have no idea when KCPD sent the block out to be machined, or when they got it back For all we know, they could have sent the block out to be machined and had it returned to their shop BEFORE they even sent us the written estimate on February 18th We don't have a clear picture as to how many incorrect parts they received, or how much of a delay those incorrect parts caused How quickly did KCPD follon getting the correct parts shipped to their shop after they received the wrong ones? By my calculations, they have had our truck for potential working hours since I dropped off the $1,down payment check to them on February 24th (This calculation was arrived by multiplying eight working hours by weekdays--the number of days the truck has been in their shop since I paid them their down payment) The owner/manager stated in his response that he has invested over hours into the repair of our truck What about the remaining hours? Are ALL OF THOSE HOURS attributed to not having the correct parts? That's a lot of hours to explain away on incorrect parts! My husband contacted a local Dodge dealership to find out how many labor hours it would take to install a crate motor, and the dealership told him it would take approximately labor hours I realize it takes longer than hours to rebuild a motor, but how many hours beyond should it take? The owner/manager also stated that KCPD had to "eat the cost" for using factory bolts, because the cost difference between aftermarket studs and factory bolts would have been too much for us to pay What about the loss of income our company has incurred, because our truck has not been operational? We rented a truck during the first few weeks our own truck was at KCPD's repair shop--just to keep our business going But we later discovered it was too expensive to haul freight driving a rental truck In addition to that, we have lost at least three loads from our customers over the last couple of weeks, simply because this engine overhaul has taken so long At what point do we question KCPD's dedication to fixing our truck? The owner/manager has stated that my husband has been calling KCPD incessantly over the last two weeks, telling them that he needs the truck back in order to make money After potential working hours that have come and gone without an explanation, what is my husband supposed to do? How many more additional hours does KCPD expect our business to survive without our truck?

My name is *** *** and I am one of two owners here at Kansas City Performance Diesel This email is in regards to a complaint with ID# Mr*** brought in his Ram Cummins with multiple engine issues Initial diagnosis told us that he had a head
gasket leakThat job entails removing all engine parts necessary to get to the head and removing it as wellAt that point we were able to inspect the deck surface of the short block and noticed serious pitting in the deck; at this point the job went from a head gasket repair to a complete engine overhaul There are two options for our customers at this point One is to order a crate motor at factory prices and then reinstallThis option is always quicker than rebuilding the existing motor in houseOption two is to have us rebuild the motor Option two takes a significant amount of time, which we usually estimate to be 4-weeks if all the necessary parts are in stock Option two is usually equal to or even cheaper than a factory replacement and is rebuilt with stronger components and in turn is a much stronger than factory motorThe customer opted for option two. When we rebuild a motor, and same with a factory crate motor, there are always components that need to be transferred from the old block to the new one or in this case the rebuilt motor And, in turn, some of those components break due to being seized up and need to be replaced Any time parts are needed there is an inherent wait time to get them and that slows the process Another part to the rebuild process is having the block re-machined back to spec To do this we ship the block out and wait for it to be completed and shipped backThat process usually takes about weeks, which we build into the estimate as far as down time is concerned With this customers block it took weeks before we got it back from Emporia, KS(not StJoseph, MO like the complaint erroneously stated). Diesel engines are expense to repair, the parts alone are extremely pricey When we do motor rebuilds, or any big job for that matter, we require that the customers to bring in money to cover parts so we don't have our own money tied up in a job for too long When we requested money for parts it took Mrs*** nearly two weeks to get us payment, this also delayed the process Some of the parts we had ordered showed up and ended up being incorrectOur invoicing showed that we did indeed order the correct parts, just that our supplier shipped the wrong parts Another issue we ran into with incorrect fitment was with main cap bolts We ordered aftermarket studs only to find our that they would not fit without ordering more aftermarket parts to give them clearance; we ended up having to go with factory bolts as the price difference would have been too high for my customer's budget We ended up eating the cost of that loss and did not put it on our customer. Motor build take a lot of time, effort, and attention to detail We pride ourselves on our quality or craftsmanship here at KCPD and we see quality to be better than fast When any customer comes to us with a project like this, same with Mr***, we inform them that we are not the fastest shop in the world but we do the job right the first time We do not guarantee any time frame for completion of the jobs we do hereWe just do our best to get them done and to get them done right the first time. For the past two weeks Mr*** has called us incessantly, and told us he needs the truck back to make money I have told him time and time again that we are indeed working on it and that we need the job done just as bad as he does I've tried to explain to him that I don't get paid until its completed and my company could use the money as well; we don't benefit from having his truck sitting in our shop I've told him that we will call him when its completed His response to that has been to continue to hassle us about time, to show up almost every day and stand around his truck and ask my techs questions preventing them from working efficiently Also, approximately days ago *** came into the shop asking about when his truck would be completed At that time I gave him my best estimation which at the time was a couple days longer During that conversation *** mentioned to me that he would need to give me partial payment at the end of the job, and that he wanted to write me a hot check that I could in turn hold onto for "a week or so" before I could cash it In my business that is a major red flag when I have over 40hrs and thousands of dollars invested in the job When somebody tells me that it doesn't exactly motivate a person to gear their company 100% towards that job In reality, usually when I hear something like that I quit working on the job until the customer can fulfill payment With Mr*** we have not slowed down due to that statement, I sympathized with his situation and have continued to have my guys work on his vehicle As of today, the truck looks to be running within the next 24-hours At that point I will require full payment in the form of cash or cashiers check from the customer before I will release his vehicleThe situation is unfortunate but it is not unheard of for a job of this caliber to take a significant amount of time Unfortunately some people can't cope with that simple fact I hope you can understand the situation and see that we are doing our best, as professionals, to complete this job for our customer who has been troublesome to say the least I don't mean to knock his character, he seams nice enough, I just don't think he understands the situation quite the way we have attempted to convey it to him; not everybody does. Thanks for your time,*** ***Kansas City Performance DieselWork: (913) 400-3531Cell: (913) 206-1124m***@kcperformancediesel.com
