Review: In March of this year, while enrolled at Kaplan Career Institute, I fell ill with a highly contagious viral infection and had to quarantine myself at home for over two weeks. The nature of my permanent disability, for which I collect benefits from the federal government, requires treatment that significantly lowers my ability to fight infection. I advised my professor of my health, whom in turn advised me to maintain contact with the Financial Aid department in order to prevent being dropped from enrollment. I followed through with this advice, emailing them daily, but received no response. Treatment for my illness was not covered by my insurance, and I was forced to sacrifice rent and phone services to cover my medical expenses, and moved in with a friend in a distant suburb. Upon recovery, I was alerted through the institution's portal that I has been dropped from enrollment, despite my efforts to maintain contact without a phone line. I could not reach the necessary department to understand the reason of this action, and all other contacts simply referred me back to the same apathetic Financial Aid. I then received an email from the Student Services Coordinator, [redacted], inviting me to return to classes, but under the requisite of phone contact. As I am disabled, I have not found a mobile phone solution that is within my meager budget, and pleaded with her to assist me with other forms of contact and transportation upon readmission to class. During this exchange, I received an email from the Kaplan Student Accounts Representative, [redacted], informing me that I had an overdue balance. [redacted] has no knowledge of this, and is researching the problem. Just prior to enrollment, I went through a bitter and frightening divorce that resulting in a standing Protection From Abuse Court Order issued by the city of [redacted] until October 2014. I instructed Kaplan in both verbal and written forms to not contact or discuss any topic with her under any circumstances. I explained that to do so would jeopardize my legal standing and potentially result in my incarceration or directly threaten my physical safety; therefore, any attempt to contact her would be a violation of my privacy. I received an email from my ex-wife informing me that they have "skip-traced" her private number and have been making regular efforts to obtain information about my location. Because of the volatile emotional nature of my personal legal dispute that has resulted from this negligence, I am in great fear of returning to the [redacted] PA Kaplan Campus as this is a known location to my ex-wife that has become greatly disgruntled and unstable. I'm being repeatedly instructed to make an appointment to visit [redacted] at that location to discuss this issue. I was given no consideration or accommodation for my personal privacy, safety or disability.Desired Settlement: I am entitled to return to class and earn the degree I've worked diligently toward; however, I require transfer to a safer and more convenient location. I see no reason to have refunded my student loans and other financial aid resources. I was less than 3 months from graduation and was holding a 3.89 GPA. The unethical practices of the relevant financial departments of this institution have made continuing my rightful education currently impossible.
