Kaplan's Car Care Reviews (1)

*** *** son had *** tow his car to my repair shop for a "no start"& possible bad alternator - *** *** accompanied the vehicleUpon receiving the car & prior to *** *** being picked up, my head technician (John
B***) opened the hood to check for "no start"John B***a immediately saw that the engine & surrounding area were soaked with oil & that a new cap was installed & oil level was fullMrB***a questioned *** *** with regards to his findings and *** *** stated he was not aware of an oil problem & had just had the oil changed @ the *** dealer just days beforeWith *** *** standing with the vehicle, MrB***a attempted to check for the original problem of "no start", but the car started with no problemMrB***a also checked the charging system (battery, starter, alternator) & all tested normalThe car was tapping very loud & running very rough - *** *** had no explanation for thisNo further work was performed, *** contacted his mother, *** , about the situation*** called & we reported our findings to her, including the car starting without a problem, the oil leak & tapping/rough engine*** wanted to know where the oil was coming from & she was advised the car had to be completely degreased to be checked & we couldn't do that because the car ran so rough it would not stay runningShe asked if I thought the *** dealer had anything to do w/it since it had just been serviced thereI told her I couldn't answer that, she would have to contact the dealer to discuss thatAt that time she advised that she was facing several personal hardships and that she had no moneyI apologized for her hardship & asked how she wanted to proceedShe said she would get back to meBetween Aug7-29, there were countless phone calls from *** - during none of which did she make a decision regarding what she wanted done with the vehicleThe calls were *** voicing her indecision about keeping the car or getting rid of it and restating that she did not have money to fix the carShe returned at one point to again ask if the *** dealer could be responsible & showed me her copy of the service receipt from them - that clearly stated there was an oil leak that needed to be addressedI told her she would have to speak with the dealership, but noted that they did print the problem on the receiptAfter her numerous phone calls about nothing really as far as fixing the car, I worked up an estimate to address the tapping & rough running engineThe verbal estimate ($+ tax) was for hours to remove the valve cover assembly & check valve train operation & this estimate was given to *** in person with her standing in the service bay with the vehicle (week of 8/17)*** agreed and we proceededUpon inspection, we found problems with the valves & cylinder head & a written estimate was prepared & shown to *** *** stated she could not afford the repairs & didn't know what to doI had given *** referrals for used car sales contacts if she wanted to look for a replacement vehicle & she did visit at least of themI also suggested that she could scrap the car & would get about $200-$for itI further advised that I could have the car scrapped for her if she chose and would take my charge of $133.50+tax for our hours of labor on the vehicle from what she got from the scrap dealer & I would give her the difference (she could pick up her money or I would mail it to her)The offer was made to relieve her of the vehicle & to ensure my payment without her having to come up with money out of pocket*** was still undecided what to doShe discussed having the car towed home & I told her that was her choice, but she owed me the hours of labor ($133.50+tax)She then asked if I could remove the radio from the vehicle before it was scrappedI told her yes, and gave her an estimate for the labor to do so*** was unhappy that I was going to charge her to remove the radio & she left upset about that*** again called & said she had the title to scrap the car & would come sign it overWhen she finally came in, she wanted me to give her $for the car & she would give me the titleI told her I was not interested in the car & that I wanted it removed from my lot ASAP & I needed to be paid for the hours/$133.50+tax (with countless phone calls & visits from ***, as well as the analysis time to address numerous issues there was actually much more time put into resolving ***'s issues than hours)I also advised that since the vehicle was at my shop for the better part of a month, with no decision from *** with regards to a resolution, I would have to start charging a storage fee for the vehicle*** once again left with no decision as to what she was going to do with the vehicleA week later *** returned with a friend and a tow truck to remove the car (week of 8/24)*** gave me $(for the hours) & walked outThat was the last I heard from *** I was extremely accommodating to and patient with *** ***I offerred *** *** options: I could fix the vehicle for the estimate I provided, I could arrange for the vehicle to be scrapped (which would necessitate her providing me with the vehicle title) & I would take the fee she owed me from what the scrap dealer paid & would give her the balance, or she could have the vehicle towed from my repair shop & pay me the fee she owedIn addition, I supplied her with reliable used car dealer referrals should she decide to replace the vehicleUnfortunately, *** *** could not afford to have the vehicle repaired & did not want to pay for any time that had been spent on the vehicleShe was also disgruntled because I was unable to provide free removal of the radio system as I would have to pay one of my mechanics to do the job, which would also mean pulling him from a paying jobIt took *** *** several weeks to come to a decision between my other two optionsI politely answered & responded to the countless phone calls and numerous visits from *** ***, even though they pulled me away from other business matters & none of the conversations were productive in coming to a resolution because *** *** could not make a decision about what she wanted to doUnfortunately, auto repairs sometimes come at a point when an individual's budget can not meet the costI have been in business for over years and have assisted many people with their needs & budget constraintsIn all my years of doing business, I have never had another Revdex.com complaint - a record that I am proud of because it is not something that is easily accomplishedUnfortunately, there are times that my ability to assist someone does not meet the need they have & I must cover my costs as a business owner
