This was a one time specific situation that is very rare for us as we take pride in our work and try to get every single repair done as soon as possibleUnfortunately, this particular customer owned a vehicle that is no longer made and that no parts are currently being made for which made it very hard for us to find parts forDue to this we were forced to order a part from a junk yard, with the customers permission of course as this is always our last resort, but when that company was taking the part off the old vehicle and preparing to ship it to us, the part was somehow broken by themTo top it off they failed to call and let us know this and had no other way of getting another part to send us as wellWhen the mechanic waiting on the part called to see what the hold up was, it took him over an hour on the phone before someone was finally able to tell him thisNeedless to say he was forced to continue the search for this part and had a very hard time finding another replacement part but eventually did find another oneLuckily we were still able to have the vehicle fixed and returned to the customer one day before the day we were told by the customer was the day the vehicle was needed backWe did everything possible to help this customer and went above and beyond to try to locate the part needed for this vehicleUnfortunately, when it comes to finding, ordering and waiting on parts it is often out of our hands which is why we are contracted with one of the United States biggest parts distributors which also didn't carry the parts needed for this particular customers vehicleWe were unaware this customer had any issues when it comes to calling in regarding her vehicle as we have countless phone calls we received and responded to while waiting on the parts to arriveWe apologize that the customer is upset with the service received but do ensure we did everything possible to expedite service on this vehicleWe are a small family owned and ran company and treat all of our customers like family and friends as well and make it our priority to provide the best service for the fairest price with the quickest possible service

Review: Kar Towing, has towed my vehicle from a parking lot while I had parking permit displayed on rear-view mirror. They have done this to many others in Harrisonburg, VA. They charged me over $120 to get my vehicle back. These people are thieves!Desired Settlement: They wrongfully charged me $125.00 and I would like to get my money back.

Mr. [redacted] Teter, owner states to respond he will need a copy of the ticket, date of the tow and where the car was towed from. As soon as he receives the information he will send his response.

Review: I have never hated a company more. I've lived in my apartment for three years and they just recently (like today was the first day) they started towing. My friend was sick and came into my apartment and we heard the alarm going off and ran outside and saw them touching her car. They made us pay them 65.00 to not take it (it hadn't even been lifted), threatened us, and then proceeded to take a neighbors vehicle that DID have the pass hanging in it. He came out in his boxers and tried to tell the guys the pass was in there and one of the men took off running and yelled to the other guy "go go go! I'll meet you at the bottom of the road!". They will probably throw away that poor man's pass and pretend they never saw it. I have never been so disgusted by the way a situation is handled. And the maturity of them running away from a man who had his pass and was trying to tell him is absolutely ridiculous. We literally just bought a car off of a man an hour ago and it had no license plates no tags or anything yet so there is proof its just been bought and the office is closed so we obviously can't get another pass for it yet and it was towed within the hour of us purchasing it. I've already called my leasing office who contracted them and am having a meeting in the morning with them to alert them to the disrespect of this company. To be honest I'm a little scared to submit this complaint because after the way they conducted themselves I am a little worried they will become angry and come after me and possibly hurt me or do something for revenge for alerting their misconducts.Desired Settlement: I want them to conduct themselves as professionals. Yes they are a towing company, I guess they are only going to be so nice. But the way they handled themselves tonight towards myself, my boyfriend, friends and neighbors is absolutely disgusting. I now have to borrow 135.00 tomorrow to pay them (on top of the 65.00 we've already had to pay them tonight) to get our vehicle out that had only been in our possession for about an hour and doesn't even have the proper tags and plates yet for us to even drive it away because the dmv is open at this time for us to finish the purchasing process. I want my money back (the 65 already paid and the 135 I'll have to give them tomorrow) as an apology for their conduct and as a token of good faith that they will become less shady of a company and stop trying to screw innocent people over.

Response:

I have never experienced a company with such unprofessional, poor customer service. This was the first time I've had my car towed, so I called to simply, and very politely ask, "What do I need to bring with me and how do I prove the car is mine?" Driver's license? VIN Number? License plate number? Anything? The lady I talked to exploded with fury. I was so taken aback that I just barely stuttered, "I was honestly just curious." I was then asked if I was "trying to get an attitude." .....really? Next person I spoke with told me that I had "asked the wrong question" and that I was "out of line." Apparently, I should have asked, "How do I get my car?" instead of, "How do I prove that the car is mine?" I guess I don't get my car towed often enough, because I should have known the protocol. I suggest avoiding these boorish, inconsiderate, people as much as humanly possible.

Review: Car was towed from a marked visitor spot in the Mill Apartment complex, [redacted], Harrisonburg VA, bearing the requisite information in the window (who I was a guest of and what apartment). When I picked up my car, the employee verified to me that this was the requisite information, and visually verified that it was present upon me picking up my vehicle and before I touched the vehicle. I took photo evidence of this. My ticket says the reason for tow is no information displayed. When I called the next day to speak to a manager, the employee that answered the phone indicated she was a manager. I described my situation, and was told rudely and repeatedly that I was at fault and what I was saying was inaccurate. There was a general unhelpfulness and combativeness to the employees nature, and I completed the call with no resolution. I can see by their profile on Revdex.com that this has occurred before and I have also heard first hand of duplicate incidents with this company from friends and acquaintances.Desired Settlement: K.A.R. Towing needs to refund my tow charge. I was towed from a legal parking spot with the requisite information present, and not only did the ticket and my evidence indicate otherwise, I was treated rudely by their staff.

Review: KAR Towing towed my vehicle from an apartment complex, [redacted], because the parking permit, which is a sticker, had fallen off the rearview mirror and slid down between the dashboard and drivers side A-pillar. I understand the tow truck driver not seeing the permit and towing the vehicle. My issue is with the response I received and the business practice of not working with a customer to verify the vehicle had a proper permit. When I called KAR Towing the owner stated it did not matter if the sticker fell off, it was not affixed to the mirror, therefore the vehicle was towed and he would not look at the vehicle at the time of payment to verify the sticker was in fact in the vehicle. He stated if the sticker was in the vehicle it would not matter, because it was not properly affixed to the mirror and stated there were probably directions on how to stick it on the mirror properly so it wouldn't fall off. Owner also stated he is not in the practice of walking to customer vehicles with them before they pay, because he receives too many complaints about scratches. Customers are forced to pay first and then are allowed to examine their vehicles or look inside. This practice allows the business control on all aspects of a transaction, making recourse for the customer difficult. Owner and staff very unresponsive to the circumstance and possibility that the car was properly parked. Date Towed: 11-14-13 @ 1:55 AM Invoice #[redacted]Desired Settlement: Requesting full refund of $135.00.

We would like to start by saying we take our customer service very serious and make it ourpersonal goal to ensure every customer has a positive experience. However, in response to this complaint we would like to provide more information as to what actually occurred regarding thiscustomer's particular experience, as there are various types of tows and services we provide, eachhaving different regulations and fees. This particular tow was classified as an illegally parked car. We arecurrently under contract with the owner of the establishment where this customer resides. The contract states," The tow company will find and remove any vehicles, parked in a resident's parking space thatdoes not display a parking pass for [redacted] Apartment Complex. The pass will be a sticker on the backof the vehicle's rear view mirror, where it is visible for our driver." On November 14, 2013, duringroutine inspection, a car was spotted in the lot with no parking pass. We require our drivers to check allvehicles being impounded twice for any sign of a parking pass before they are permitted to tow thevehicle. The driver checked this vehicle twice for a pass but there was no sign of a pass anywhere therefore, per contract, it was towed. The next day the customer was escorted by her friend to our shop to pick up her vehicle. lnstead of coming inside to identify themselves or speak with us regarding hervehicle, the two ignored all trespassing signs and drove straight thru to our back lot where we secureimpounded vehicles. The only employees working were one secretary and one technician. When our secretary, saw the vehicle entering the employee only lot, she went back thinking they were just confused about our process for releasing vehicles. She politely informed the two girls they weren't supposed to be back in that area without an employee of KAR tow¡ng. One of the girls then stated she was the owner of one of the impounded vehicles and needed to get her wallet out of it. Our secretaryimmediately allowed her to get her wallet out. After the customer came inside and paid for the impound she went back again to get her car, She searched thru the car for approximately 10-15 minutes for her parking pass. After she finally found it she came back inside and told the secretary it had fallen in a crack in her dash and showed her the pass. Upon closer inspection, the secretary quickly realized the pass she gave her was not registered to her vehicle as well. She was politely informed that all passes must be visible from outside the vehicle to be valid and must be registered to the vehicle it is attached to. Due to the pass not being visible as well as not being registered to her vehicle, a refund was not and will not be granted, We understand the concern and can imagine the customer's frustration but hope she can understand we have obligations to our contract we must uphold and intended absolutely nopersonal upsets.Thank you, Keith Teter

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The parking sticker was for that vehicle, however, the apartment complex failed to change the registration information when the previous vehicle was totaled and a new parking pass was issued. If the apartment manager were to verify that in fact the issued sticker belonged to that vehicle, would there be a refund, or is the fact the sticker had fallen off the basis for ejecting the refund?Regards,[redacted]
