Purchased an AS IS vehicle that was test driven and sold to me. I am 73 years old and purchased this vehicle for my daughter. This was the worst buying experience, I am an 73 year old senior citizen who purchased a volvo suv at kara auto sales dealership. I was in a special needs situation for a vehicle, after we test drove the vehicle together, we later went back to kara auto sales to proceed with financing the vehicle. How ironic on the 28th day since my purchase the vehicle shuts down. We find that message was displayed which reads transmission failure. The next day we have the vehicle towed to their lot to express what has taken place and what can we do about this matter to resolve it. Hands down this was bad business. There is no possible way this just all of a sudden happened out of the blue. I speak with the female sales rep there and she texts the owner [redacted] and he pretty much says it was sold AS IS and that just the price we pay for buying an AS IS vehicle. The moment he says he will do nothing I express how I will write about this to make other possible consumers aware what is actually going on at Karas Auto Sales sanford nc. I express I am a single mother and leaving me with nothing to go off of is unacceptable. Then he says if you get the vehicle diagnosed I will then pay half of the bill to repair this. But would not put anything in writing. This has been the worst car buying experience ever!!!!!!!Desired SettlementI am requesting a FULL repair/ replacement of my transmission for my Volvo xc 90 which the owner [redacted] should be fully responsible for.Business Response Mr. [redacted] came to purchase the 2003 Volvo XC90, we offered him the 3rd party extended service contract that covers vehicle issues, Mr [redacted] declined to purchase knowing that all of our vehicles by North Carolina Law, are purchased "AS IS." After 28 days, we were contacted by his daughter saying that the Volvo needs a transmission. All of our cars are thoroughly inspected by the state of NC and have been driven at least 100 miles or more before sales. Karas Auto Sales offered to help by contacting a mechanic who gave us a discounted price and got an estimate for Mr [redacted]' Volvo which was $1300 parts and labor- we offered to help by using our discount price and half of the cost. Mr [redacted]' daughter then told us she wants a brand new transmission in the 2003 Volvo XC90, which would be $3500 parts and labor. Karas Auto Sales would be more than happy to help in a negotiable manner. Consumer Response Dealerships such as this diquise themselves with believing their own false truths. It is not substantial business practices to take advantage of senior citizens and women. When this vehicle was diagnosed by a professional they disclosed that they found metal flakes in the oil pan which is a clear sign that the transmission has failed in this vehicle . They also disclosed that a severe matter like this does not just appear all of a sudden, there are signs that are prevalent that this will be a future issues if not repaired. Kara'* auto sales must have pushed the vehicle through the nc inspection to pass because there is no way legally this would have passed an state inspection. This professional mechanic also said they will speak on my behalf in court with this matter because they see this all time where the elderly and women are taken advantage of by dealerships such as Kara auto sales. They also recommended not to buy a rebuilt transmission with over 100k miles on it because the same thing will happen. My daughter and myself had intentions to purchase the $700 warranty within the 30 days but when this happened in less than 30 days of buying the vehicle I was extremely disappointed with the negligence of Karas auto sales that I did not trust doing any further business with them. Kara auto sales continued to display unfair business practices with this matter. My daughter nor myself More Info Received From The Consumer On April 4 2016 My father and I arrived at Karas auto sales, in Sanford to resolve this issue with my Volvo xc 90. [redacted] the owner of Karas auto sales agreed to pay 1000k toward an rebuilt transmission and personally apologized. This turned our situation totally around and referred us to an transmission specialist as well. Mr. [redacted] and I [redacted] are more than satisfied with [redacted] decision. Karas auto sales expressed that they did not wish to sell us any faulty or bad vehicle. They expressed sympathy as well for us having to del with this issue.

Karas Auto Sales failed to disclose information about the purchase of a vehicle, provided false information, and misguided me in the sale/purchase.On Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Karas Auto Sales a friend and I inquired of any and all problems with the car. [redacted], the lot manager, assured me that the car ran very well and there were no problems with the car. We test drove the car and upon returning let [redacted] know the things we clearly noticed and saw. We told him that the car needed an alignment and the brakes were not that well either. We asked if there were any problems with the air conditioning and heating system and if the canvas top had any problems and worked properly. Again, [redacted] assured us that their mechanic inspected the car and addressed all of what we had just asked him. He said that the alignment was just done, but he would have him to look at it again and fix it if it needed to be. Before leaving the car lot, we confirmed with [redacted] that the alignment, brakes, and rear rotors would be repaired and fixed if need be before I was to purchase the car. On Sept. 22, 2014, [redacted] called me back to let me know that the owner agreed to fix the alignment, the brakes, and the rotors but wasn't willing to do anything else. He also told me that their mechanic checked the car and that the alignment was fine and fixed. He also stated that they checked the brakes and rotors and that they didn't need to be fixed or repaired. He said that they discovered it was because of the tires the car was swaying and not driving properly so they replaced the 2 rear tires. I trusted he was being honest at the time. I paid $4700 down payment for the purchase of this vehicle because I already paid $300 to hold it, and we left with the vehicle that evening. On Friday, September 26, 2014 [redacted] discovered and showed me that my rear brakes were really bad and was in need of rear brakes and rear rotors. [redacted] discovered and showed me that I was in need of an alignment, that the rear tires were definitely not good to ride on, and something possibly going on with the air conditioning and heating system. [redacted] told me that they would more than likely be willing to pay half the cost of those repairs. I had the car aligned at [redacted] with also 4 brand new tires on warranty even though he didn't agree to new tires, they didn't pay anything towards alignment or tires.A couple of days prior on Wednesday, Oct.1, 2014 the convertible top stop working midway not allowing me to drive the car. All the repair work they discovered was estimating $4351. At this point I called [redacted] back and told him that I either needed to return this car or we need to work something out with all of these problems he assured me were already taken care of. I told him if he was honest upfront about some of these things, I could have used some of my $5000 down payment to repair some of these things. [redacted] told me I would lose my $5000 down payment bringing the car back. After [redacted] decided not to do this transaction business with Karas Auto Sales because of what they thought was falsely, unfair and unjust business towards me, then [redacted] changes his mind and decides to call me back to offer only my $5000 down payment back upon me returning the vehicle because they were not going to do any repairs on the car. Because I already put new tires on the car, I wanted to be paid that portion back at least too. [redacted] told me he would talk with the owner and that they can pay it over time. On Oct.12, 2014, I had 2 friends to drive with me to return the car to [redacted] and lot owner. At that time, the owner was willing to pay my $5000 down payment back but pay nothing on the alignment or tire work on the car they were getting back.I have proof with all my receipts and documents, from witnesses for what has transpired with me and Karas Auto Sales, and documentation from [redacted] what took place. There have been people that I know who have also called to inquire about that [redacted] black convertible since Nov.6 and it has still been for sale since then.Desired SettlementI purchased a [redacted] convertible from another local dealer which is the same make and model year car I had purchased from Karas Auto Sales. I called [redacted] to see the possibility in switching the tires because they still had the car and the tires that I purchased on the car. [redacted] stated that might be good and he would contact the owner. [redacted] stated he would call back. On Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, I called and [redacted] told me that they had a man earlier that day to come in and place a down payment on the car and they didn't want to switch the tires after the customer has already seen the car. As of right now Nov. 20, 2014 and since then, the same [redacted] black convertible is for sale $10,999 on their car lot and has not been purchased as [redacted] had stated. I am seeking from the business that they be able to allow me to retrieve and replace only the 4 tires I placed on that car. If they were unable to do that, I would like them to pay at least $750 out of the $753.88 without tax that I paid towards the tires. As I mentioned to [redacted] before, I am willing to drive to their location and agreed mechanic to make the switch...if I had to pay a mechanic, I also suggested which I feel is extremely more than reasonable. [redacted] has also agreed to have one of their stores in Karas Auto Place location perform this for me because those are brand new tires under warranty for me. So again, I'm seeking to switch the tires or be compensated for them keeping them.Business Response Mr [redacted] did in fact buy a [redacted] from us, after purchasing the car, he was upset with a few thing in it. We agree on taking the car back with a full refund, Mr. [redacted] did also sign a binding document stating clearly that Karas Auto Sales has no present or future obligations to Mr. [redacted] and that he may not pursue any action against Karas Auto Sales regarding this vehicle. He has already contacted an attorney regarding this matter, after finding out Mr. [redacted] has received a full refund and signed a document has not attempted to contact us. Also the [redacted] is in fact not on our lot and currently at a shop since the beginning of November due to what ever was done to the convertible top by Mr. [redacted] during the time he owned the car. The vehicle does have a customer on it waiting for the top to be complete so they can buy the vehicle. Since taking it back from Mr. [redacted] the vehicle has not been to the dealership one time.

This car place sold me a car they said runs great and just been check by there mechanic. In 1 day the transmission went out plus the heating coilIn 12/28/13 they said that the car was in good condition and they just had the mechanic look at it and there are no problems with the car.12/29/13 I called to complain about the car not wanting to move. [redacted] the salemen told me there noting wrong to bring it to the shop. Also I told he the floors was still wet in the front floor of the truck,he told me on the same day I brought the truck that it was because they just had the carpet clean. But it was not. The heating coil went out before I even brought the truck and they lied and said it was from them cleaning the capet. Also the transmission was no good. And he was post to pay half on the broken GPS and has not done one thing..Keep calling and coming by the shop and they say he is not there.I paid a payment of 5500 down and payment of 500 for three remaining months..Desired SettlementTo fix the heating coil and help with the placement of the GPSBusiness Response Karas auto sales inc sold this vehicle to [redacted] on 12-28-2013. We disclosed all known information on the vehicle and gave her a discounted warranty. The carpets were not wet when the vehicle left our lot on 12-28-13. Mrs. [redacted] choose to wait almost four months to complain. Mrs. [redacted] agreed to purchase the vehicle as is and we have a copy available per request.

The dealership failed to disclose the fact that the navigation system on 2004 Acura TL did not work when the purchase was made on March 22, 2014.Kara's Auto Sales of Sanford, NC advertised on their website a 2004 grey Acura TL with Navigation System. When I arrived on Friday, March 21st 2014 to observe and test drive the vehicle, I realized that the Navigation screen displayed "Please check Disc." When I questioned the dealership about the error statement on the screen, I was informed that the navigation just needed updated software to function and I was directed by a sales consultant to go online and order the updated software DVD. I did so that evening. I finalized the sale on Saturday, March 22, 2014 with every intention of the navigation system functioning upon delivery of the DVD to my home address. I received the DVD on Tuesday, March 25th, 2014 and inserted it into my DVD navigation device and the screen continue to display "please check disc." On Wednesday, March 26th, 2014 I called Kara's Auto Sales and did not get an answer. I scheduled an appointment for Thursday, March 27th 2014 with [redacted] of [redacted] NC for a diagnostic. They discovered that the entire unit needed repair and [redacted] quoted $662.56. I informed Kara's Auto Sales and they said they were unwilling to reimburse me any of my funds. It is unfair that this information was not released before I spent my money on this vehicle. There were a few other minor problems with the car with one other major problem being the audio system and the amplifier needing replacement costing $882.88. However, my major complaint is the Navigation System to which I am seeking have some remedy for this situation. I also understand when buying a used car everything will not be perfect and there will be some problems, but a responsible dealership discloses the problems with the car.Desired SettlementI am looking to either receive the money that it will cost to repair the unit ($662.56) or for Kara's Auto Sales to pay[redacted] of[redacted] to fix my navigation system. Business Response Karas Auto Sales INC disclosed all known information about the vehicle sold to [redacted]. She requested we fix a few issues and we fixed them as agreed. We discounted the price 700 dollars for her and We told her that the navigation was showing "Please check Disc." We advised her that it could be the cd but we were not sure. She agreed to purchase the vehicle as is and signed the as it form. We have a copy available per request. - Received Consumer Rebuttal 2014-04-23Kara's Auto Sales did not reduce the price by $700.00. The listing price was $7999.00. It was reduced by $100.00 to $7899.00. They were certain that the CD was the problem in which case I purchased the CD the same day I was informed of the problem. In addition to the navigation system being faulty and costing $662.56 to replace, [redacted] also informed me that the amplifier had gone bad costing $882.88 to replace. Also, the left wheel bearing, hub, and knuckle needs replacement costing $1282.53 and the A/C condenser cord to cost $473.25. The grand total being $3301.22. NONE of these problems were disclosed to me. The navigation system information given to me was FALSE. The navigation was the only major item identified during my visit and the information given to me in relation to the navigation system was false. The reason I am ONLY seeking reimbursement for the navigation system is because I discovered the defect before purchase and Kara's Auto Sales misinformed me that it would work after purchase of the CD. It is my belief that they knew the navigation was dysfunctional and required full replacement. Most dealerships disclose crucial information about the car but not Kara's Auto Sales. I can provide direct proof from [redacted] of [redacted] regarding all items discussed.Case Closed SATISFIED 2014-05-12I, [redacted], have no desire to further dispute this claim. The complaint has been resolved between the parties involved. Thank you!

Karas Auto Sales advertises that they finance everyone. They are dishonest when dealing with customers, making false statements creating hardships.I contacted Karas Auto sales to purchase a [redacted] via on line credit application. I was contacted by Karas, and informed that I had been approved for the purchase, and was presented via telephone with payment details. I traveled over an hour one way to look at the car, and take a test drive. After the test drive, I noticed the smell of burning oil coming from the engine compartment. One of the employees told me that it wasn't an oil leak, the smell was from a cleaning product used on the motor. I am a mechanic, and pointed out the leak to the employee, and told him that it definitely was an oil leak, to which he dismissed my concern. I was then told by the finance employee that my wife needed to cosign with me on the loan, and that she would have to come out to the dealership to do so. I traveled with my family, back out to the dealership, over an hour away from my home, to fulfill the request. During the process, I was informed by the finance employee that my wife needed a North Carolina drivers license, which is not true since I have a North Carolina license, and we bought a van in Raleigh less than a year prior with no issue. Karas refused to continue with the sale until she got a North Carolina license. My wife followed the direction given and got a North Carolina license the next day. I called Karas to inform them of this, faxed over the copy as they requested, and was told to get insurance on the car prior to picking it up. I told the employee that I was going to sell my daily driver on Friday for the down payment on the [redacted] if I was in fact approved. I was told that without a doubt I was approved, go ahead and sell my car, get insurance on the [redacted], and come pick it up on Saturday, everything would be ready. I sold my car, got insurance on the [redacted], and again traveled over an hour to the dealership. Upon arrival, I was informed that they were remodeling the office, and nothing was ready. The contract had not even been faxed over, and nothing could be done until Monday. I was forced to rent a car to get to work on Monday morning. I attempted to call Karas all day Monday, and they finally answered my call at about 4pm. I asked if everything was taken care of and when I could expect to come get the car. I was informed at that time, that the owner of the dealership wanted to keep the car until he received payment from the lender after I signed the contract, paid the down payment. I refused to do this as I had concerns about not being in possession of a car that I had insurance on and was paying for. I had to call them back several days later for an update, and I was informed at that time they would not work with the lender ([redacted]) and there was nothing more they could do. Desired SettlementI want Karas to remove the misleading words "We Finance Everyone" from any and all sales material. I would also like to be reimbursed my car rental cost as my rental was due to negligence on the part of Karas Auto employees.Business Response Contact Name and Title: Karas Auto Sales Inc.Contact Phone: ([redacted]Contact Email: [redacted]About two weeks ago, Mr.[redacted] came into Karas Auto Sales looking to purchase the [redacted] as well as trade-in his [redacted]. The appraiser told him that we could only give him about $600 for this [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] declined and said that he would sell it on his own and bring the cash as his down payment. We started the finance process by explaining to Mr. [redacted] that we need to find a company who will approve his credit, as well as verify employment, and other required documents lenders need. Later, we got Mr. [redacted] pre-approved through [redacted]; however, he needed a cosigner (which would be his wife.) By North Carolina state law, for us to register a vehicle the client has to have a North Carolina I.D. That same day, Mr. [redacted] was informed that he could not "drive off the lot with the car, until employment, and all required lender documents were verified with the lender and we were funded;" that was to guarantee that there was no mistake in the paperwork he had given us and we had sent in. His wife had to go back and get a N.C I.D for us to continue the financing process. Mr. [redacted] stated, "I was told that without a doubt I was approved, go ahead and sell my car"- he was not told to sell his vehicle, nevertheless he did not even ASK us if he should sell his car. We were in fact remodeling our office the day Mr. [redacted] planned to pick up his car- but his lender approval was still contingent. Mr. [redacted] had not signed any official documentation except the online credit application that gives us permission to run his credit by giving his application to the lender(s). We did not receive any payments from Mr. [redacted]- his down payment was his vehicle that he decided to sell on his own time. We apologize for the inconvenience, Karas Auto Sales is the middleman with financing- we have to wait for Mr. [redacted]'s approval, we also do not take responsibility for Mr. [redacted] selling his car since it was not sold to us. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the service you receive.Consumer Response The employees of Karas Auto Sales continue to be dishonest as they have been since the very beginning. During the initial process, I was told that they would give me $600 for my [redacted], which I was in agreement with. After the appraiser looked at my car, he stated "I will give you about $300 for the car. I don't really have too many people looking for a [redacted]. It would be better if you sold it on [redacted], because actually that's what we would be doing with it anyway." I was called by Karas and informed via telephone, that I had been approved, but would need my wife to cosign, as originally stated. Obviously Karas employees do not know North Carolina law, as long as one of the co-owners of the vehicle being purchased, has a North Carolina ID/Drivers License, the automobile can be registered, something that we had done less than a year prior at [redacted] on a [redacted], with no issue. Both my wife and I asked several times about the status of the financing in days leading up to traveling to the dealership for the final time, and were told that 100% we had been financed, and to go ahead and sell my car as I could pick it up on Saturday morning. I was given the lender information for the car and told to get insurance on the car so that I could drive off the lot on Saturday morning. When I arrived Saturday, they were remodeling the office, at which time the "finance manager" sat down and pretended to start the paperwork, at which time, he said, "I forgot to get the contract sent over." After numerous calls made by me to the dealership, I was told that the contract couldn't be sent over until Monday. When Monday arrived, I could not get ahold of anyone until 4pm, at which time, I was told "We haven't dealt with this lender before and the owner doesn't want to the car to leave until we are funded, we can do this in North Carolina." Karas employees continue to be dishonest about interactions, quality, function, and status of the cars they are selling. In the end, I only sold my car because of the malicious dishonesty of the employees of Karas Auto Sales, and had no reason to sell it on that date otherwise.Final Business Response About two weeks ago, Mr. [redacted] came into Karas auto Sales looking to purchase the [redacted] as well as trade-in his [redacted]. Hello, Thank you very much for your help. Here is the information you requested: My Name and Address- [redacted] NC The Business Name and Address- Kara's Auto Sale 3008 Jefferson Davis HWY, Sanford, NC XXXXX Complaint- I found a car there that I wanted to buy and asked to have a pre-purchase inspection done by a shop and automotive tech that I know and trust. We arranged a time to have it done and they were just fine with it. When the appointment came one of the owners of Karas Auto Sales drove the car over and my tech pulled the car into the bay. He noticed a problem as he did so and then his boss, and the owner of the shop, told him that neither I nor the Owner of Kara's could stand in the bay while the car was on the lift for safety and insurance reasons. When the owner of Kara's was told this he got very defensive and told us that he has to be watching the car while it is being worked on. It was pointed out that he could see the car from 5 feet away from out side the bay, but he had to be right behind the tech. He was asked "really what's the problem, do you have something to hide?" and he said no but he immediately took the car and left very angrily. It was clear that there was something that he either wanted to keep us from finding our try to convince us wasn't a problem, which really defeats the purpose of the whole inspection. Thank you again,Desired Settlement Results- I would like to be able to inspect the car unimpeded and continue down the road of buying the car. Also for this sneaky practice to stop. Business Response Mr [redacted] came and spent about an hour tinkering with the BMW in our shop, taking parts off to inspect etc. When the car was taken to Mr [redacted] mechanic, they tried to close the garage door with Mr [redacted] inside. If it was an insurance issue being within the bay at the time of inspection, the customer wouldn't have been allowed inside either. Karas Auto Sales INC has advised the customer to let us know if would like to have the car checked out at a different time or place.
