I am writing in response to a complaint filed with your organization, as a former client of mine does not want to pay for our services rendered for preparation of payroll The invoices for services were mailed to the client when services were rendered and subsequently, with no response of any
type including that they were going elsewhere to amend returns Now that we have contracted with a collection agency, the client has notified us that they had their corporate and individual returns amended and they not only refuse to pay us, but want us to pay for their amended return preparation by another accounting firm
I will not pay for the preparation of the amended returns, as the reason for the amendment was the deduction of a vehicle by the corporation, that the corporation did not own This is illegal and the amended returns will not stand up in audit I was asked by the client to include this vehicle on the originally filed returns and had explained to the client that I would not include the vehicle, as it was not allowed per Internal Revenue code
I will waive the interest charges and will settle their account, if the original fees for payroll preparation are received in my office by the end of November, If I do not receive my fees for payroll preparation, I will take the client to small claims court

To Whom It May Concern: Our office received complaint #[redacted] on April 18, 2016 regarding [redacted] claims that he was overcharged for the services he received under engagement for the preparation of his individual income tax return and multi-member LLC return for 2015. In response, we...

would like to outline the extent and nature of our interaction with the above client in past tax seasons and the current year. We prepared [redacted] 2014 individual tax return. Our invoice for that year's tax preparation came to a total of $495. His return was priced out individually per form and we received no complaints at the time of completion and payment. For the 2015 tax year, we met with [redacted] on February 12, 2016. While it is our company's policy that we never give a specific price quote until taxes are completed, we assure clients that if their tax return is similar to prior years, the price will remain the same, as our price per form did not increase from the prior year. 2015 saw major changes for [redacted] tax return. He started his own business as a result of receiving non-W-2 compensation for teaching classes in CPR. He also started a rye grass farm rental receiving U.S. Department of Agriculture payments and offsetting expenses resulting in the required filing of a Schedule F. In addition, he formed a dual-member LLC that requires the preparation of its own independent return, as well as a comprehensive set of books and required pass-through documentation necessary to complete his individual return. Our base price for these types of LLC/Partnership returns starts at $1,200. This was specifically quoted to him in ail email he received on March 15, 2016. (attachment #1). At which time, he replied that he would complete the LLC return himself and provide our office with the required pass-through documents (K-1's) necessary to complete his individual income tax return. We informed [redacted] that we prepare taxes for our clients; we don't teach them how to complete them. After several requests from our office for help in how to do such a return, [redacted] decided that it was best if we complete both the LLC return and his individual income tax return for 2015. Attached are copies of email transcripts in which a price is quoted to [redacted] for his LLC return tax preparation fee. Rather than a $1,200 fee, Our office generously reduced the fee to $100, due to this partnership being a first year startup, and his repeated complaints about prices and not wanting to pay what we would charge him. [redacted] return became significantly much more complicated in2015, due to his starting a farm, forming a partnership, and receiving small business income. These types of activities necessitate additional forms that require increased documentation and scrutiny in order for our business to guarantee a quality product. [redacted] signed our standardized engagement letter, which specifically states that he recognizes our fees are based on standard rates per form and returns prepared are subject to increased fees based on additional work and forms required. A quick glance at Mr. [redacted] 2015 invoice will show you how generous we were based on what our standard rates are. His original total for his 2015 individual tax return was $1,225; we reduced this, in part to help reconcile his constant complaints, by $600. Our firm stands strongly by the price we charged him as more than fair. We also believe that the increase from $495 to $725 for all of the additional forms and a complete separately filed return for his LLC is more than reasonable. What Mr. [redacted] is proposing is that we do all of this additional work for an increase of only $30, which is completely unreasonable. Please see the attached invoices (attachment #2·4) for reference in our pricing structure and how we incorporated client discounts to work towards avoiding conflict with this client. In response to the customer's desired settlement, Kari Mitchell Accounting, PC will not reduce his fee and will issue no such apology, while it is our opinion that we deserve one for being accused of not being honest and upfront about our cost and fees. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
