Dear BBB Representative, I received your note with respect to my complaint (# [redacted] ) against KaRick construction. I was pleased to see that Rick mentioned that among other things that we are neighbors as well. Problems with the electric started some years back, around 2010. Lights would flicker up and down alot, flourescents, would hum when turned on, the stereo would feed back, sounding like a low washing machine sound was running through it. Had some water heater problems, blew up two microwaves, damaged a refer, 3 tv's and a coffee pot. During this time I actually thought it was the power company. I thought well this is country living. I called them, and they would come out let me know there was nothing wrong on their end. Then in july of 2011, the electrics crashed, I had [redacted] come out and try to figure out what was going on. They got things up and running, but I was still having similar issues, just not as severe. Turn on a power tool in the back and the lights would dim etc. When the power went off this time (2-10-17), I was sure it was the power company, and they responded in about an hour. ( I have several machines I need for breathing, so I need power.) CE found that the service at the pole was fine. But the problem was at the fuse box in the house. The left leg on the server went dead under load. The CE techs said the only possible explanation was the cable insulation had been cut by rocks -back fill- as a result of freeze and thaws and moisture under the basement floor. They told us we were lucky none of us were electrocuted because of the way the grounds were set up on the service line. They were surprised when I said it had been about 12 years. They recounted they were surprised that it lasted this long, usually lasts about 5 or so years. Then they shut the house down after advising me that the electronics on the big items could burn out if the tried to come on, furnaces, stoves etc. they told me to use the power outlet on the outside deck through extension cords since it was operating separate from the house for the air machines, and the refrigerator. A couple hours later that night, 2 electricians from BD Elec. came, verified what the CE techs said, but switched some of the breakers so we could use the good 110 leg and we could run the air machines, lights and refers. But it would be Sunday the 12th before they would be able to rewire the house and power up the water heater, furnaces etc. I would like to add that the info from CE and BD techs, stated independently that "electrolysis" had set in once the jacket was cut, and had been going on for some time and was the most probable cause for all the electrical problems we had been experiencing over the years. Since Rick pointed out that we are "neighbors" the negotiations were seriously weighted by that fact to use KaRick for construction of the basement and instatllation and set up of our home. During which negotiations, he seemed to be on top of his game, and we visited several sites in Jefferson county, his company was building, to be certain as we could that he was 'walking the talk'. Having had a number of conversations about the construction plans, which included assurances such as "we build to Jefferson county standards and codes" and or, "it wouldn't do to have a neighbor mad at me over some construction issue and throwing rocks at me when I drive by." Or , "our hand shake is our word". From a buyer point of view I thought the situation couldn't be more ideal. However, I did not check with any other home owners on the road for their opinions. If I had known they were laying the power cables without conduit, I would have specified it in the contract particulars. We're talking about an additional $30 dollars in cost. I find it oddly convenient that he could forget that he put the basement and accoutrements in. Also, I have the original contract -see attached- and it doesn't say one way or the other with respect to installing wires in conduit. It never occured to me that he wouldn't use electrical conduit. As far as his phone goes, I called him a Saturday AM on the 11th, and went to voice mail immediately. I left a brief message descibing the problem, asking him to please return my call. I never heard back from him. As for the water well; they had to put a dirt ramp extension off the So. east end corner of the basement, where the well is near, for that phase of the operation placing the house halves on the foundation. That ramp was approximately 6 foot high or more, and wide enough and long enough so that a 2axle semi-truck could pull onto the ramp out far enough to unhook the house half parallel to the foundation and basically push the half up and onto it. Then back off the ramp and repeat this op. a second time. Very impressive actually. The house halves are 75' x 16'. Quite a bit of dirt was needed to do this, and then its later removal by tractor. I am a hundred per cent certain that KaRick broke it in that manner. I saw the equipment working in that area, I just didn't realize what had happened. Moreover, on two different occasions I showed Rick, and his son Justin, individually, the damaged well, and asked them when they were going to repair it.... Yes indeed, that was a while ago. I'm still waiting. That well was a selling point for this property. Now for him to deny he doesn't know about it is just a bald-faced lie. I don't throw that word around lightly. I find it very upsetting that he would deny this or hide behind some baloney disclaimer, never stated or otherwise. They, Karick also "exaggerated" on the condition of the septic tank. I was told it was serviced before we occupied the property. Several years later, I had it serviced as a routine matter, and discovered from the old guy who did the job, that there was an unexposed compartment that he dug up -for "an extry charge"- and based on the 'mud' he found, he showed me that compartment and said it had not been emptied in 15 years or more.... I went from a single hole septic, to a two hole. I Did some concrete work, cast a second above ground lid; everythings good there now almost. There's more but then I begin to sound like a nag. I just wanted to be a good neighbor as well. KaRick was payed well, in good faith.... Considering what they delivered. They couldn't present some decent stories/excuses. At this juncture, I could not recommend them to anyone. One Well company wants $2500 to do the well, and the rewiring bill is $5000. I'm trying to work with my insurance company, but they are not very happy. Sincerely, [redacted]

if it was out of the ONE YEAR warranty I could have at least looked at it for them for a solution. I do not know if they are willing but, I am still willing to look at it if they are in need of the repair. I've check my answering machine and I have no messages regarding this matter. I will address this issues separately. #1 -The electrical honestly I've researched threw the files and I can't find a copy of where we might have done the electric work,( I am not saying that we didn't just can't find it) If we had done the work and did not use conduit to cover this entrance cable we would have used a direct burial wire such as: Product Overview Southwire's Quadruplex URD is used for secondary distribution and underground service. It can be used for direct burial or in ducts. The aluminum conductors are made stranded, compressed and available paralleled. 3-phase conductors and one neutral conductor are cabled together to form the quadruplex cable configuration. 600-VoltInsulation is cross-linked, vulcanized interlinked polyethyleneNeutrals: yellow triple extruded stripe, yes neutrals have sequential footage [redacted]ersUL listed and CSA certifiedClick to learn the factors you must consider when wiring your home Info & GuidesProduct Brochure You will need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader to view PDF documents.  Download a free copy from the Adobe Web site. I understand their frustration if they called and I hadn't responded, its not let me. For good or bad I always respond. I do appreciate the copies of documents and photos. I can't or won't respond to each individual complaint listed or attest to conversations had with my son, or anyone else.I can't just set back and write a $5000.00-$7500.00 check for something when I didn't even have the choice to look  at the problem.I offered to come and take a look to see what could be done, but apparently that isn't what the [redacted]'s wish. After 30+ year's in business I have not made it threw without taking care of my customers.Even though I am disabled and out of the business I was still willing to come by and take a look should have spoke for itself.I have nothing further to ad Thanks to the Revdex.com for the service [redacted]
