Don't waste your time! We needed an estimate for a FEMA appeal after our home was flooded in Hurricane MatthewSince it was an appeal, we were given a day time frame to submit an estimate from a contractor on the damage or we would automatically be denied any assistanceWe called Servpro immediately and they sent out Tim a few days laterWe thought we were good to go as we still had over a week and a half for them to get the estimate back to usHowever, that did not end up being the caseThe customer service at the office was absolutely horrible as they gave us the run around anytime we called, stating anyone who could help us was always busy and therefore they promised to have someone call us back, but no one ever didWe also called Tim's direct line and left messages, but he never returned those eitherAs we approached the end of our deadline and began to lose faith in them doing the job they told us they would, we reached out to First Atlantic RestorationLuckily for us, First Atlantic Restoration was the complete opposite as Servpro and they bent over backwards to help us when Servpro left us strandedServpro has yet to give us an estimate, even though we are long past the deadlineDon't waste your time with Servepro(But I would highly recommend First Atlantic Restorationthey are amazing if you want a company that actually takes care of you)

I lived here for a year with my boyfriend and our young daughter, and it was an awful year. Let me count the ways.

1) The DAY after we moved in, we found our first roach. And it spiraled downward from there. No matter how deeply we cleaned, what kind of treatments we tried, or how often "pest control" came in, we found bugs nearly every day. It was beyond disgusting.

2) Maintenance is a joke and the office staff are either snooty, indifferent, or rude. We had MANY maintenance issues during our year there, but there are 3 that stand out in my memory the most.

The first is that our shower head was leaking, and it took several MONTHS and numerous phone calls to get it fixed, and it finally only happened because I called the Nashville branch of their company ([redacted]) to complain. Suddenly, it got fixed within 2 hours. In the middle of this months-long debacle though, one of the office staff told my boyfriend that we essentially should just deal with it because the building was old. What?

The second infuriating instance was when the central air conditioner (which looked like it was getting ready to fall completely apart) sprung a huge leak and made its way into my daughter's carpeted closet. The smell was gross. I called about it the very first day I found it, and they sent a maintenance guy to place a fan to dry the carpet, and then I heard nothing. I called again a few days later and Debbie, the assistant manager, said "Oh, I'm sure they'll be down soon to properly fix it." Four MORE days passed by without a peep from the office or a visit from maintenance, and so I called the Nashville office again. I then get a call from Heidi, the business manager in our leasing office, who promises the maintenance guy is on his way right that second and that she would call me with the rest of the plan by the end of the day. Well, the guy did show up, but he didn't properly fix it and unsurprisingly, Heidi never called me back. Long story short, it took TWO MORE WEEKS to get it properly fixed, and I had to be the one to call the office after it was done and say "So are you guys gonna check for mold underneath the carpet?" They acted like their minds were blown. They did end up replacing the carpet shortly after, but it's a month of my life I will not get back.

The third instance involved our laundry room. Besides the fact that those rooms were disgusting, the washer in our building sprung a big leak and had the floor half-covered. Was told by the office that it was an issue for the company that owned the machines. As it usually goes, there were a lot more phone calls placed and many weeks that passed by before the leak was stopped.

As I said, there were many smaller maintenance issues as well, but I don't think anything got fixed without AT LEAST 3 phone calls to the office and/or the regional office.

3) Avalon West has low rent, but that's because they use a company called ###### as their water/trash/pest control/gas/sewer billing service. It's utterly bizarre to me that an apartment complex charged separately for the sewer, and we were hit with a $60 charge JUST for the sewer every month (for a 2 bed, 1 bath apartment). In total, the bill for everything was a minimum of $110 a month. Insane. They told us when we moved in that the highest bill they had ever seen was $95. HAHAHAHAHA.

4) Have I mentioned the staff? Every single time I interacted with one of them, I felt like I was wasting their time by existing. The fact that they chose a profession that involves a lot of interaction with a lot of different people dumbfounds me.

Location was good and our neighbors were pretty cool, but that is ALL it had going for it. We're now in a much nicer place that has amazing staff who value the residents, maintains the complex extremely well, and we no longer dread coming home every day. If it ever came down to living at Avalon West or in a cardboard box, my family and I would be buying Christmas wrapping paper to decorate our new boxed-in home.
