I contacted this company on or around April 6 to come to my home to give me an estimate on a roof repair or replacement. I left a message with [redacted], who said that [redacted] would call me to schedule an appointment. Two days later, I called again because I had not received a call. [redacted] again said that [redacted] would call. The next day I called again, and [redacted] says "Oh, geez, [redacted] hasn't called you yet?..." This should have been my clue to let it go, but I persisted. On the morning of April 10, I get a call from [redacted], letting me know he would be by at 2:30. Great! At about 1:00 [redacted] calls and tells me he is about 20 minutes away and I say "Great!". [redacted], and another silent guy in dark sunglasses who doesn't actually say anything until I speak to him, comes at around 1:30 and we talk about my issues. I take him into my upstairs room where he can see the stains from the leak in the roof on the ceiling of the room, and he can see the damage to the drywall, etc. from the inside. I let him know that I want him to look at the roof and give me an estimate for the repair or replacement. He goes up on the roof, spends some time, and comes down. He has pictures for me. [redacted] is the 3rd contractor I've had on this roof and taken pictures, (although I haven't told him this), but the FIRST one to show me pictures with his finger in the separated overlapping seams of my flat roof top, indicating that the seams are useless and needed repair NOW. In fact, the guy who was up there before him said, "the seams look good." [redacted] tells me that he is "broken up" about what he sees on my roof. He offers to help me out right now, and mumbles something about not charging me if we go with his company, and tells me he can do a "very, very, very, temporary fix." It's about to rain, so I tell him okay. I'm thinking maybe $10-15 for some "fix". He goes up, and comes down again, and presents with an invoice for $210. He tells me that if I don't pay now, and he thinks this is just ridiculous but it's what the company does, I will be charged an additional $125.00 to "process my check." I say "what am I paying for?" He tells me that I'm paying for two guys, and $15 worth of caulking. I say "do you have pictures?" He goes back on the roof and comes down with pictures that show what looks like clear or white caulk applied to various parts of the roof, including the seams of the flat roof. I say "Okay. What am I paying for again?" He says that I am paying "for two guys at $65 an hour for 1 1/2 hours, and $15 for the caulk." I say, "You've only been here an hour," to which he replies, "That includes the drive time from the other site to here." I say, "I'm not paying for drive time, that doesn't make any sense, and I'm not paying now; you'll have to bill me, and then I'm not paying an additional $125 to process my check." He proceeds to write up the invoice, includes the additional $125 for check processing and presents with an invoice that he wants me to sign, that is now $335. I tell him "I'm not signing that," and he immediately walks out of the door, strolls down my lawn, and gets in his truck with his cohort. He's outside my house in his truck for about 10 minutes before he pulls off.
I call the company to complain about this whole charade. [redacted] picks up the phone again, and I tell him the whole thing, and then ask him is this the way they do things. He actually tells me, "Well, yes and no." I ask who the owner of the company is, and he tells me he ([redacted]) is the office manager, but [redacted] is the one who owns the company. I ask about [redacted] and he's the project manager. I ask about the guy who came to my house, he's [redacted]. I tell him I fell like I was being scammed, and he assures me that they "are not a fly-by-night type of company." He hems and haws about this and that, and then says he'll call [redacted] to have him give me a call to talk about this. He hangs up, but a few minutes later, he calls back and says that "[redacted] doesn't have time to sit and talk on the phone." He then tells me that he'll have [redacted] call me "on Monday." I'm still waiting for that call. I am NOT waiting on the bill that I haven't yet received, however.

These guys are the best! And I mean it! I was stuck by another roofer who bailed out at the last minute and Kaschak came in and picked up the job for the same price. Then they started right away which was critical because it was late in the season. I was impressed by their attitude towards the customer and their attention to detail AND they cleaned up after themselves including fixing the lawn where the trucks left ruts.

I found that Kaschak is well regarded by their customers, their suppliers, and the roofing manufacturers as I did a lot of reference checks before giving them the job.

The roofing manufacturer warranted their work and I was pleased that the roof inspection passed the first time. Something that rarely happens.

I would recommend Kaschak to anyone needing roof work - repairs or a whole new roof.
