Review: My husband submitted an application for a rental, which cost $50. The next day, they said the application was approved, but I also had to pay $50 and submit an application (for a total of $100). After this was submitted, they had us each fill out the lease agreement. They said we could drop off the security deposit and prorated rent in their mailbox. This was all on a Friday.We choose to have our bank mail them the checks instead, and figured they would contact us if there were any problems. We werent scheduled to move in for another couple weeks. No phone calls or emails were received, so we assumed there was no problem. Wrong. On the following Tuesday, they sent an email at 10am, then made a phone call around 11:30 am and left a voicemail, all of which we missed. The first one said they would have to give the rental to another applicant if they did not receive the check that day. I called them within two hours and they said they had already called the other applicant. Even though we had paid $100 in application fees and signed the lease agreement, apparently they collected $50 from another applicant and had them also fill out the lease agreement as a backup. I asked them why they gave us only a two hour notice of cancelling the lease; they said they had sent out an email the day before. I never received the email. Turns out, they typed my email in wrong and that's why I didn't receive it. Now we are out $100 and both of us have suffered a drop in our credit because of the hard inquiry. It would have been nice to receive a more sufficient notice, rather than just two hours, of the cancellation of the lease. Of course, they refused to refund the application fees as they blamed us for not communicating with them. It seems that giving a two hour notice of the cancellation of such an important agreement does not constitute effective communication. They clearly dont care because they got their money out of us and they will probably keep cheating customers out of their money until someone files suit.Desired Settlement: We would like to be refunded for the application fees. We also want our credit reports corrected by getting the inquiries removed.
