Dear Ms [redacted] , I am responding to the BBC complaint filed by [redacted] against Kindler Roofing The work was done to codeKindler installed the roof on an existing structureThe roof pitch existed when the replacement roof was installedThe codes addressing roof assemblies do provide for applying the shingle roofing in the manner that Kindler installed the roof(R9052.1- R9052.7.1) (I have attached the relevant sections of the roofing code) The installation for this roof type does not call for a drip edge(R905.2.8.4-R905.2.8.5) At the time of installation different roofing repair estimates were provided – the most expensive being a rubber roofHowever a rubber roof would not have guaranteed that the leak that occurred, would not have occurred The leak occurred years after Kindlers workThere was no leak until after another contractor had come onto the roof and removed some of Kindlers work and put down roofing on the adjacent roof structure If anything, the installation of shingles on the main roof by the other contractor could have caused a pitch change where the main roof met the roof installed by Kindler Contracting The main roof and alleged “flat roof” were installed by two different contractors (years apart) the second contractor is responsible for the less than inch staggering between the two layers of shingles The “flat roof” is not leaking, there is no need to install more than layer of shingles on the “flat roof” area As shown in photographs & 60, ice and water shield was installed on the “flat roof” MrK [redacted] remains willing, to pay Mr& Mrs [redacted] $as a good faith gestureMrK [redacted] is sorry that they have had these issues but he firmly believes that the second contractor is responsible for the issues the ***’s are having Please feel free to call me should have any questions or concerns
