Complaint:
I am rejecting this response because:Toward the end of March
of this year, I entered Keen’s Building sales office and began a discussion with Eric Woods (sales)I asked quite a few questions, one of which was, “how long to construct the building?” He replied “approximately one month from start to finish.” I liked the answer and felt confident to continueI returned to the office on the eighth of April with a deposit check of $and received a receipt, with the remainder due upon completionThe tenth of April, the check was cashedI was assuming arrangements were made to commence, as long as the schedule allowedNot until the twenty-first was the concrete finally poured (without a skirt! Wouldn’t you think that a car garage would require a skirt? That cost me an extra $1000), and I was informed the waiting time was a week prior to constructionThis would have put the time frame at the end of AprilThis didn’t happen. Later, I found out that there was no mention of this new construction to the contractors for at least a week (delay)One would assume that with a cash deposit, this would lock in a construction date, and allow the sales office to make all arrangements, including the ordering of the garage doors (another delay of completion at the end of this project). Don, manager of Tubular Steel Buildings (sub-contractor), assured me that he would have been happy to give a work completion date to the sales office if asked. He wasn’t asked and therefore did not advise the sales office of the estimated completion time of this large projectWhen I called the office numerous times, I was either told that someone would call me back, or they would call and find out what the delay was andthen call me back, which rarely happenedI finally ended up calling the various subcontractors myselfThroughout this project, the biggest disappointment and hence reason for so much frustration is the lack of communication of the sales office with the customers. As I mentioned in my original complaint, Keen’s did provide (at no charge) a small storage building for me to use until completion of the projectI am appreciative. However, even this required several phone calls and reminders to accomplish. To recap, the deposit and order was made on April Check cashed AprilTSB notified of order on AprilConcrete site prep started April. Building started JuneBuilding completed JuneGarage doors installation not begun until June and not completed until June. Start to finish for this job was two months, fourteen days, hardly the “approximate month” that I was promised. Lack of communication was the hallmark of this entire project. I decline to rescind my complaint, as the problem needs to be seriously addressed by Keen’s, and verbal assurances that “I’ll call you back” need to be honoredMaybe the small storage building side of the business is fine, but the large building construction side re: customer communication needs to be carefully scrutinized by the company
Regards,
Toby Kessler
