Keepat was hired to clean chimney on 6-1-2013. After consultation with company owner, [redacted], I agreed to have a used wood burning stove installed, to have the chimney swept/cleaned, and the exterior chimney power washed and sealed. A date 2 weeks later was arranged and the company was given one-half of total cost to buy installation and sealing materials. Total cost was $1900.00 and company was given a check for $950.00. One week later (before installation date), I unexpectedly put earnest money on a home out of state with an expected moving date of September 15, 2013. I immediately contacted **. [redacted] to let him know that I would not want the stove installed, but that I still wanted the chimney cleaned inside and out and the brick sealed as arranged. **. [redacted] specifically stated that there would be no issues with no purchase of stove and that he would do job on original date. He agreed to return portion of downpayment not used ($550 for clean/seal exterior and $150 for sweep), which was $250. He did not come on 6-15-13 as arranged. **. [redacted] has made at least 6 appointments to finish the work between 6-1-13 and 8-21-13. Each time he has not shown nor has he called to tell me he could not come. (I have missed 3 days of work waiting for him to show up for his appointments.) He finally came and cleaned the chimney and washed the brick a month ago. I have called him repeatedly to set appointment to finish the sealing. Every time he has told me he "would not do it because of the weather" or he had family problems that prevented him from coming or he simply did not respond to calls or text. Sometimes it was wet and others it was not. The last appointment was for 8-21-13 at 10:00 am at which time he again said he would finish the job, leave a receipt with inspection results, and a check for my refund in my mailbox. The weather was sunny and warm with no forecast for rain all week. He specifically stated he would leave a money order for me. I have not heard from him.Product_Or_Service: chimney cleaned/sealedAccount_Number: [redacted]Desired SettlementPlease finish the job as agreed. Provide inspection statement for chimney. Return my money.

Requested cleaning service for gas fireplace. Service tech came out but did not clean unit. Was charged $89.00-Called company to clean fireplace before operating this winter. Fire went out after turning it on the pervious week. -Spoke with fireplace technician over the phone before service call. Said if work is performed (cleaning fireplace) I will be charged a service call plus any additional fees for parts if needed.-Cleaning / Repair tech came out, (30min late) looked at unit, did not perform any cleaning to fireplace but charged me for $89.00 for visit. Said problem is a safety issue not cleaning issue. Adding insult to injury, Tried to convince me to purchase a new unit from company.Desired SettlementFull refund or come to a settlement. Should not have to pay full price since I was told if cleaning is preformed I would be charged. Plus tech was late for appointment.Business Response this person has never contacted me w any problem ever! service charge is 89.00, cleaning of unit bumps up charge to 125.00. but I told customer cleaning would not help, therefore only charging the 89.00 service charge. yes, I did offer to sell him a new set. WE SELL GAS LOGS. any way ,sounds like he feels as thow the service call should be free. if this person really feels I have somehow done him wrong, have him call me for a refund.

Keepat was hired to do some chimney work on an older house with a leaking chimney. Work was completed but chimney continued to leak with every rain.Keepat was hired to do several repairs to the old fireplace and chimney. Top mount damper, crown seal, waterproofing and firebox. Keepat required half the money up front and half upon completion. Work was completed on January XX XXXX. I then agreed to have [redacted] come back and do some additional work on the fireplace hearth. Not too long after the completion of initial crown seal and waterproofing it rained and I realized the chimney was still leaking. [redacted] agreed to come back out and look at why when he would do the additional brick work. After repeated calls to try and get him to come back out and continual excuses as to why he couldn't, [redacted] has stopped returning or answering calls concerning services rendered. In the meantime I have had two other reputable chimney companies come out and assess and quote repairs to leaking chimney. Both companies told me the same thing: his crown seal was too thin and insufficient and it did not cover the shoulders which still allowed water to pool and seep into brick. I have called and emailed [redacted] with this information and have gotten no response back.Desired SettlementI would like Keepat to come back out and correct the work that was done improperly. Crown seal should be added to sufficient thickness and coverage over the shoulders to ensure chimney will not continue to leak.Either repairs should be made at no additional cost since work was already paid in full or reimbursement of $150 for crown seal portion of job should be reimbursed.Business Response $150 was sent to the customer on 5/8/2015. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

removed existing ventless firebox to install woodburning fireplace- started process never finished -found out not possible to complete job to code I hired Keepat to change out a ventless firebox for woodburning one. He entered an existing vent way made the inspection took measurements and took a deposit for $4400 (9/27/13) came back took out existing ventfree isokern box and set a woodburning insert. then the problems started. [redacted] had health issues in November and had to postpone the work then after posting it 5 or 6 more times - we are now end of January. I called several more times only to hear weather related excuses. it was a cold winter but he cancelled on days when it started out with frost but then the temp would go up well enough above freezing to safely do the work. He finally stopped returning calls all together. So with a half finished fireplace I had the people at [redacted]'s come out make a quote to finish the job. In the mean time I have concreted around the wood burning fireplace ($2800)and added a marble hearth ($1400). Since Keepat told me he knew where to put the hole in the roof to place the chimney we sealed the existing fireplace off. [redacted] had to open a hole in the wall in my bedroom to inspect the back of the firebox he installed to insure the safety of his work and to see where to put the chimney through the roof. They found the existing box could not be vented to code due to its location. The only way to do it was to cut a hole in the 2nd story roof line so the pipe could pass per code. This was never discussed with keepat as his initial quote put it in a different location that due to the angles the metal chimney had to make would not pass code. I do not want any part of a chimney that is not built to the strictest code. This should have all been addressed before any changes were made to the existing fire place. I am now going to have to pay to have the entire fireplace returned to the original configuration.Desired SettlementI would expect a full refund for work not completed $4400.00money to return the fireplace to original [redacted] vent free system $2817.84 I also expect to be paid for the wall in the bedroom and to have the existing chase re concreted. Approx $3000.00 Keepat will not be allowed back on property so him making the repairs is not an option.Business Response this is bazzar, this job can be done no problem! Mr.[redacted] put us off because of an accident in the family, then after two weeks and more delays over his vacations, mr.[redacted] called between xmass and new years demanding that we start work the next day w/the aftermath of an ice storm.his words; if your not here tomarrow I will get some one else to finish the job! never heard from him again.we would be glad to complete the job with a guarntee of payment on completion.. Keepat will not concider any other restitution! mr.[redacted] still owes on a job completed 3 years ago. If he ould like to schedule the job properly we will be willing to do it!Consumer Response I am still requesting [redacted] @ Keepat to refund my money. Had I been advised correctly at the start I probably would not have gone forward with this projectBusiness Response keepat has offered to complete the job! Mr. [redacted] is not willing to do that .He has made statement that the job could not be done in code as planned by keepat. this is absurd! the job can be done exactly as planned and would be 100% in code. the damage to bed room wall caused by a third party is Mr. [redacted]s doing and had no connection to keepat. I have spoke w/ code enforcement and would be happy to have them come to the job sight to confirm the plans which keepat had proposed. further more keepat has not made any changes to the existing chase structure. Mr. [redacted] has changed his mind half way into this project and would like keepat to absorb the cost. this is not acceptable. however, keepat realizes that some people will not take the course of reason to resolve disputes. keepat has done nothing wrong, ethically, morally, ect. against my personal feelings for Mr. [redacted], keepat will agree to a $500.00 rebate if all unused materials and equipment is returned to keepat. the end! [redacted] Connolly keepat fireplace.

We had them come clean the chimney. He said it needed repaired. Has cancelled on us at least 5 times in 2 1/2 months. We called him to come clean our chimney. He spent less than 5 minutes with us and said it needed repaired. He said we still owe him $125.00 even though he didn't do anything ( NEVER disclosed a service charge). We scheduled for him to come and do the repairs, and he had cancelled. We kept trying to reschedule and he would cancel every time. We told him that we could take a day off of work during the week and he said no, his weeks are full I can fit you in on the weekends. Every time I talked to him, he had a new excuse as to why he couldn't come repair. He said we will come in the rain. We will tarp the chimney they day before, lay down tarps and hand mix the cement so that we do not make a mess. This way we can go ahead and get it done. I called him this morning to make sure that he would come tarp the roof and he told me that he will not come and do anything in the rain and had a more and more excuses. He said he'd leave money on our door step to refund. I told him that is unacceptable and he needed to bring it to my office or come when we are home due to the fact I do not want money sitting out where someone can take it. He started to make excuses as to why he could not come and bring it to me and why he'd rather just leave $125.00 on my door step. We have been going through this for 2 1/2 months! We got $200 worth of firewood delivered, and now we cannot use it due to the fact we can't get our chimney repaired. Now it's getting too late in the year and we doubt that we can find someone else to come repair it. Desired SettlementI want my repair DONE. I don't want the excuses. I want what was promised to me from the get go. I want people to know that he is a scam artist and will not follow through with anything he says. I work with contractors all day for a living and I have NEVER had this problem. He always said because I am a WOMAN I don't understand how things work. I manage about 1,000 commercial buildings and handle all of the maintenance for them, so I do know what I am talking about. I do know that it's harder to do repairs while raining, but that is why he said he'd tarp the chimney the night before so that they could go ahead and do it. Then he told me that it's not a free service and we'd have to pay additional to have that done. He doesn't disclose any of these hidden fees. Business Response this person was refunded in full for an inspection fee. she became difficult to deal with on schedule weather issue. this person got a free inspection, she has paid keepat 0. at no time in the future will keepat ever do business with this person. the deception in her complaint clearly shows this haters intentions...Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I didn't become difficult to work with. He gave me excuse after excuse as to why he wasn't able to do repairs when scheduled and then his story changed every 5 minutes. I work with contractors all over the country for a living. I know when repairs can and cannot be made due to weather and other factors. Everything that he told me was a lie. He said he couldn't do it if was raining, but would be happy to put a tarp over the top of the chimney so that rain wouldn't interrupt the scheduling of our repairs. He said he would also put drop cloths down in the house to prevent from tracking in dirt, and that they would hand mix the mortar in the garage. The next time I spoke with him he told me that he charged extra for all of that which is crazy because he should do that as a courtesy for ALL jobs. I am not "hating" on anyone. I just know who things should work in this industry and was treated extremely poorly by this company. He is very rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. If this was a contractor that my work would have hired... we would have ended up in a law suit against him. All I wanted was for my fireplace to be repair in a timely manner before it got too cold. We are still without a fireplace and have over $200 dollars worth of wood sitting around that we cannot burn (ordered it and had it delivered the day before our repairs were going to be done, but then he decided to cancel last minute WITHOUT even calling to let me know). When I called back to reschedule that is when things got "rough" and he started to be even more rude and disrespectful. I have made it known to everyone I know to never contact this company. Our landlord is telling everyone in the area he knows (since he also lives in Bartlett) and we are all spreading the word. I haven't been treated this poorly by a person or company in a long time. The fact the states that weather was an issue.... it barely sprinkled that morning and didn't rain the rest of the day. He guaranteed me it wouldn't rain the following weekend (I guess he thinks he's a weather man now as well) and that is when he said he'd tarp etc. Then recanted that statement when I called back to make sure he'd do that the night before the repairs. Like I said... he is a liar, horrible business ethics etc.

Owner of company did not complete work as promised and promised refund for services not rendered. I have contacted him on several occasions no resultKeepat fireplace and chimney repair was contracted to tear down and replace stone fireplace. We were told that we would have to keep our schedule clear with no other contractors present during the entire time work was to be completed. We complied. Owner did not show up on first day, showed up on second day and worked half day. He came by on third and finished demolition of stone. He drilled holes for mantel and then did not return for a week. It was excuse after excuse. "Homeschooled" son's car broke down, cancelled crew because it was supposed to rain. Forecast was for clear skies, rain was for the following day. There was plenty of inside work that could have been done. The next day there was a death in the family, the next day he had to stay up all night in order to stack chairs after funeral, the next day was still very tired from the funeral ordeal, the next day was "sick as a dog", next day still very sick although we had someone else call his number and he answered it all perky ready to do business. We tried to call back to tell him we needed to get this back on schedule because we were 2 weeks behind schedule and we had contractors waiting to do their work. He finally returned our call and we told him we could no longer hold up other contractors so we were going to hire someone else to do the work. We were more than fair and offered to let him keep 2/3 of the deposit we paid. We paid him for the gas logs including installation which he did not perform nor do we want him to at this point and for the demolition of the rock. After we figured the original quote and the number of days he quoted us to have the work completed we paid him for a full days labor although no more than 6 hours were put into the job. At this point he agreed to refund $1330 of our deposit by the following Tuesday. We have not heard from him since and have contacted him on several occasions. We were left with a pile of rock in our den that we had to carry outside ourselves in order to have other contractors start their work. We have requested he come to get his wheelbarrow, sledge hammer, shovel and several other tools and to bring the refund he promised. We have not heard one word from him. We are willing to return his equipment. All he has to do is come pick it up.Desired SettlementWe would like the $1330 refunded in cash as he promised. The work was completed by another contractor so we do not need his services any further.Business Response this is true and we do owe mr. [redacted] the refund as he has stated. we are going through some financial issue's and hope to have this resolved in the next 2 weeks. sorry for the delay.[redacted].Consumer Response To date, we have not received the refund. I will accept his response when we do.Final Business Response
