I am writing in response to [redacted] complaint, ID [redacted] did purchase the vehicle with the knowledge beforehand that it needed the short block replaced. He was told at that time that this repair would be time-comsuming and the repair did, in fact, require almost 4 weeks to complete. Part of the reason for the extended time was because while we had his engine apart, it came to light that his clutch was near the end of its useful life. In good consiousness, we could not just put it back in and we ordered and installed a replacement. This was done at no cost to the customer. New oil was installed in addition to a new oil filter. The vehicle was then driven to test the repairs prior to [redacted] picking it up on June 30th. At that time the mileage was 77K. The short block that was put into [redacted] vehicle was an original [redacted] OEM short block for a [redacted], which is what his vehicle is. The crankshaft is a part within this short block and was [redacted] original part. At normal driving, that crankshaft is more than adequate. Some owners of performance vehicles choose to upgrade their crankshft if they tend to drive their vehicle at high RPM's frequently, which our observation of [redacted] driving indicates may be the case.The customer returned over five months later, on 12-2-14, and his complaint was that the engine was knocking. A preliminary check of the car found that the oil was so low that none showed up on the dipstick. The mileage was 85K meaning that almost 8,000 miles had been put on the vehicle without an gil change and possibly without even checking the oil. Again, the customer was observed driving he car very aggressively at high RPM's when shifting. Our determination was that customer neglect and abuse were the causes of an oil starvation situation that resulted in the damage to the engine bearings. He was told that the cost of the repairs would be his responsibility. I understand the customer's frustration,however, I do not feel it is our responsibility to repair the engine that was driven, and driven hard, with little or no oil.This letter is the first we have heard of any problem concerning an incorrect crankshaft. Had [redacted] contacted us,then, it would have give us an opportunity to look at his vehicle, either here or at [redacted]. Without seeing it, we are not able to verify his claims. However, as stated above, we used a [redacted] OEM short block so the parts in that short block, including the crankshaft, were the same parts that came in that vehicle when it was new. - . . . . . . . .Piease do not hesitate to contact me if there is any other information that you need. -, President Keim Pre-OWHed
