Review: Due to a tree falling on my roof from Super Storm Sandy. I needed some roof repair. In the early days of May 2013 I unfortunately met Mr. [redacted] from [redacted] NJ ( [redacted] or ) in the parking lot of a Super Market. He had one of those advertising magnetic signs on his white van. I requested an inspection and a quote of the roof and any associated damages from the storm. He gave me a estimate for a new roof and wrote up a contract. I Gave him a check on the first day for $1900. A few days later he requested another check to buy materials. A check for $3000.00 was written. He started the work a week later with some "day labors" . When they removed some roof shingles and underlayment he reported the interior rafters needed to be replaced. Now he needed another check. Again a check was written for $3000.00. At this point I'm in for $7900.00. The total amount for the job rose to 25,000.00. It grew from a $4000.00 roof repair to a $25,000.00 nightmare. The days went on and [redacted] did not show up. Many calls went unanswered. After a week or so his workers showed up and started on the roof, they removed one side of the shingles and plywood underlayment. They sistered up the so called damaged rafters and replaced the underlayment. The unfinished roof was covered with a tarp and some large black trash bags and left for days. It started to rain very heavy. Water poured into ever room in my house. damaging sheet rock on the walls and ceilings, furniture and carpeting had to moved. I put pots, pans and pails in the attic to catch the rain as it ran down the open seams on the roof. [redacted] was again called and at this point he could care less. He made excuse after excuse. I contacted my insurance company and they told me to hire another contractor an get the roof finished. My Ins. company called [redacted] and he told them that I refused to pay him. The new roof was installed by [redacted] in 1 day.Desired Settlement: I'm seeking a refund in the amount of $4400.00. Myself along with [redacted] roofing calulate materials and labor that Keith's Contracting supplied came to $3500.00 deducted for the initial amount given to Mr. [redacted] of $7900.00. This does not include the damage to the interior sheet rock walls and ceilings.
