Please call the school and set up an appointment with the director, Mrs*** She would like to meet with you to attempt to help resolve the situation

Mrs [redacted] Based upon your complaint, the school leadership team of which [redacted] is the elementary director, has poured over the website looking for discrepancies between what is promised and what is actually happening in our lower school classrooms We want the website to accurately reflect what is being taught at Banff, but we were unable to find the “disconnect” that you have brought to our attention On the subject of “music theory,” I believe there was a misunderstanding We offer “musical theatre,” and that is the reason our drama teacher is teaching the students show tunes Our website at 1st grade level offers a Performing Arts class, not a Music Theory class, with the following description: Students take part in two full-scale musical productions each school year in our brand new fine arts complexWhile rehearsing for their productions, students learn proper breathing techniques, performance skills, and basic theatre terminology and practices Additionally, we are perplexed because the complaint that you have registered with the Revdex.com does not correspond with the series of emails exchanged between you and MrsSaulsYou brought up several different issues, but it seemed clear that Olivia was struggling in math and that homework at night was a problem You expressed on October that Olivia said “she just wants to be able to go outside and play She’s tired of spending so much time on math in the evenings and afternoons lately” MrsSauls’ solution was to substitute an alternative textbook for Olivia, and had she offered her help in an email sent to you on October 28, “Let me look at this tomorrow and we can evaluate And set up a meeting Or pull some other mathAnd get some background on where she’s at and coming from I will email you tomorrow! Please don’t stress out We will work this out together ” You and MrsSauls had a meeting set for November 5, but instead you withdrew Olivia on that day Olivia is certainly capable of achieving mastery in a higher level math curriculum, and the teachers and administrators at the school were intent upon meeting her where she is and addressing any weaknesses by building upon her considerable strengths We could go point by point on all issues, but what we really want is for you to come in and meet with MrsSauls and give us the opportunity to meet your child’s educational needs On November 5, upon withdrawing Olivia, you wrote: “We want everyone to know that this decision is only about the curriculum specifically the math and science textbooks We love the staff, and the atmosphere at Banff We believe the learning environment at Banff to be excellent We have been so grateful for the great care given to our child every day.” Mr [redacted] emailed MrsSauls on November 5, “Please note that the school has done nothing wrong I personally think if we work together and find a mutual solution to some of the curriculum issues, then we will be okay through the end of the year.” I am afraid that after reviewing the enrollment contract that you signed and learning that tuition was non-refundable, your opinion of the school changedWe want to regain your trustGiven the opportunity, we can work with you to modify the amount of homework Olivia is assigned and work with her individually to correct any weaknesses in math Your concerns about science experiments will be addressed Please give us a chance to make adjustments so that Olivia thrives at Banff

Thank you for the courtesy of the refundIt is greatly appreciatedA suggestion for the future would be to adhere to the curriculum as stated on the Banff School websiteI understand what the contract said, but there is a certain level of trust that parents put into the school to deliver the curriculum that is outlined in detail on the school's very own websiteThe chosen curriculum/textbooks for both Language Arts, Reading, and Math were all very mediocre and the science experiments were not even being performed as specified in the second grade curriculumI met with Dana regarding my concerns and she admitted to me that she had not even looked at the new books and admitted that the science experiments were not being done with students because the school did not have suppliesShe also admitted that the science books were for exposure, not to teach critical thinking or the scientific methodOf course this is all contrary to what the Banff website states I have read the science and art TEKS which were not being followed in the classroom as stated by Dana when we toured Banff initiallyDuring my time teaching in Alief Isd, my room was situated next door to the science lab and across from the art roomI'm not a content specialist but I do have a degree in education, and have a solid knowledge based on my years of observation and teaching in Alief.
I'm still flabbergasted by your reply here about what the one sided contract says when it would be obvious to anyone who knows anything about curriculum and instruction, that art and science are not being taught in second grade at BanffI hope that the Banff school will revise the website to reflect what actually goes on in the classroom: worksheets and copying from the boardTextbooks are supposed to be a base for curriculumThe textbook should never BE the TEACHER.
I'm just thankful I have a child who was willing to speak her mind or I'd have never knownHomeschooling is going very well and Olivia is getting the education she deserves.
Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern:
A refund was processed for the consumer as a courtesy although the policy and a signed enrollment contract states no refunds. Thank you for your help in updating our record

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 10852231, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint While I understand the application and admission policy of the school, I don't consider this a fair policy considering that it is illegal to withhold school records for anyone attempting admission in schoolI did not request that they hold a spot for my son, I merely asked for a meeting so that we could discuss a plan of action regarding getting his records The admissions counselor refused to meet with me and only responded to me via email and as I said in my original complaint kindergarten is NOT required in the state of Texas and he passed the admissions testing The owner obviously did not feel that I was worthy of acknowledgement or a response to show any concern for her employee's actions in labeling my son as someone who would not be successfulThis is slander and you don't say that to a parent regarding their child, and I feel that statement alone warrants the return of my fees.

Mrs. [redacted]
Based upon your complaint, the school leadership team of which [redacted] is the elementary director, has poured over the website looking for discrepancies between what is promised and what is actually happening in our lower school classrooms.  We want the website to accurately...

reflect what is being taught at Banff, but we were unable to find the “disconnect” that you have brought to our attention.  On the subject of “music theory,” I believe there was a misunderstanding.  We offer “musical theatre,” and that is the reason our drama teacher is teaching the students show tunes.  Our website at 1st grade level offers a Performing Arts class, not a Music Theory class, with the following description:
Students take part in two full-scale musical productions each school year in our brand new fine arts complex. While rehearsing for their productions, students learn proper breathing techniques, performance skills, and basic theatre terminology and practices.
Additionally, we are perplexed because the complaint that you have registered with the Revdex.com does not correspond with the series of emails exchanged between you and Mrs. Sauls. You brought up several different issues, but it seemed clear that Olivia was struggling in math and that homework at night was a problem.  You expressed on October 28 that Olivia said “she just wants to be able to go outside and play.  She’s tired of spending so much time on math in the evenings and afternoons lately. ” Mrs. Sauls’ solution was to substitute an alternative textbook for Olivia, and had she offered her help in an email sent to you on October 28, “Let me look at this tomorrow and we can evaluate…And set up a meeting…Or pull some other math. And get some background on where she’s at and coming from.  I will email you tomorrow!  Please don’t stress out…We will work this out together…”  You and Mrs. Sauls had a meeting set for November 5, but instead you withdrew Olivia on that day.  Olivia is certainly capable of achieving mastery in a higher level math curriculum, and the teachers and administrators at the school were intent upon meeting her where she is and addressing any weaknesses by building upon her considerable strengths.
We could go point by point on all issues, but what we really want is for you to come in and meet with Mrs. Sauls and give us the opportunity to meet your child’s educational needs.  On November 5, upon withdrawing Olivia, you wrote: “We want everyone to know that this decision is only about the curriculum…specifically the math and science textbooks.  We love the staff, and the atmosphere at Banff.  We believe the learning environment at Banff to be excellent.  We have been so grateful for the great care given to our child every day.”  Mr. [redacted] emailed Mrs. Sauls on November 5, “Please note that the school has done nothing wrong…I personally think if we work together and find a mutual solution to some of the curriculum issues, then we will be okay through the end of the year.”
I am afraid that after reviewing the enrollment contract that you signed and learning that tuition was non-refundable, your opinion of the school changed. We want to regain your trust. Given the opportunity, we can work with you to modify the amount of homework Olivia is assigned and work with her individually to correct any weaknesses in math.  Your concerns about science experiments will be addressed.   Please give us a chance to make adjustments so that Olivia thrives at Banff.

The admissions policy of The [redacted] School, as stated on our website and in the document handed to the parent during her tour, states that our application fee is non-fundable.  Students who have attended a school prior to enrolling in [redacted] must produce report cards and teacher...

recommendations to be reviewed for an admissions decision.  This information appears on our online application for parents to read before they pay the application fee. When the parent was unable to obtain the documents, our Admissions Coordinator called The [redacted], hoping to have the records sent to us directly.  The [redacted] said they would not release records because the parent had defaulted on her tuition payments.  Our admissions policy requires that we have past school records before accepting a student.  The parent requested that we hold a spot for the student, but with the class almost full and other applications pending, we had to deny acceptance. I have attached the tuition policy stating that the application fee is nonrefundable and a screen shot of the online application that explains that a place will not be saved for a student until we have received the accompanying documents.

Please call the school and set up an appointment with the director, Mrs. [redacted].  She would like to meet with you to attempt to help resolve the situation.
