After selling my house of 28 years I had the unfortunate experience of renting from Sun Vista Realty. [redacted] . All seemed well at first our agent Mark Z. was more than pleasant enough and happy to help us get established in this condo we were going to rent from them. Since our house sold so quickly we did not have very many places to look so we decided to take this place even though you have to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get into the condo and the insulation is so bad you can hear every noise from every unit in the place. I asked Mr Z. if I could paint before moving in and he said it would be fine since the place had not been painted in over 5 years and I did not want to live and a place that look like that it was dirty thought I needed a place to live and I didn't mind putting in the work of painting the walls and cleaning. Also it was partially furnished and I asked if I could take out the living dining room set since it was [redacted] furniture that had been out on a balcony for I don't know how long before I moved he said it was fine we put it in storage and paid for over a year to store it there even though when I moved I had given away better furniture. I brought a new living room dining room set put up ceiling fans painted the walls everything was fine, after a year the landlords came out to check the place and we're very happy with the condition. And mr.Z. was very proud to show them the place. We asked if we could get rid of the furniture because it was costing us a lot of money to store it and it wasn't going to be any good by the time we moved out it wasn't any good to begin with he said go ahead so we put it at a goodwill box. Every year we live there the rent increase 25 dollars the first year 25 the next year and if we had stayed the fourth year and was going up 35 more so our rent would have been 1,485 a month. Now in the three years we were there they never spent a cent on the place except for when the air conditioner broke and the sink broke even though we told them there was a problem with the refrigerator and the stove was rusting and the sliding doors were not working right and the dishwasher was broken fine we lived with it. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the fact when we first rented Mr Z. was a long term rental agent by the time we moved he was a manager and his whole attitude changed. Now since we decided to move it was harder to get in contact with anyone from the office we could not even get them to come out to do a walk through when we did move. I had to get the president of the condo association to do a walk through with us as I took pictures before I moved I clean I bleached I steam clean the floors I patched holes I touched up paint I worked my [redacted] off to get my security deposit back I left my ceiling fans and I left window treatment and I left carpet runners on the floor which they are still using. I have photos showing the condo as I left it. The few times I talked about getting in touch with the landlords I was told by Mr Z. that the gentleman was American but the woman was foreign and very hard to deal with so I decided to just stick with the rental agency. well it turns out no matter what I did to the place they had no intention of giving me back my deposit I feel this is why they ignored my phone calls and I could not get a call back from them. After 3 years I was told by mr. Z. that he never gave us permission to paint or to dispose of the furniture of course he was a long term agent when we rented and now he's a manager I have a feeling he took it upon himself to give us these permissions. I am NOT a teenager I am a 61 year old man and my partner is 63 we took care of this place as if it was are own. I would just say anybody having dealings with Sun Vista or mr. Mark z. beware make sure you have everything you do or discuss be written down because I hate to say it but he is not a man of his word. I have photos to prove what the place look like when I left and I feel like this man is just laughing in my face because everyone knows if you sue the only one who wins is the lawyer. I would never have dealings with these people again since I did write to Coldwell bankers and it just ended back up in his mr Z.'s office again and I felt like it was just another big smirk from him. I just wonder how many other people have rented and not gotten their security deposit back. I would never recommend them. I have a business of my own and I will make sure that if I know anyone who's going to rent from them, knows what kind of company they are.
