Kenny's Towing Reviews (1)

Review: My car has a temperamental starting problem. After some time, I could not get it to start. After looking up tow services in the area, I made the unfortunate mistake to call Kenny's towing service. On the phone, I explicitly explained that I was not necessarily looking for a tow, but needed some help getting my car to start. I was assured that the driver would help me in getting my car started. After trying to start my car, the driver(I believe his name was [redacted]?) told me that my "motor was all seized up" and he would have it towed to the garage where my motor would be replaced. I explained that I didn't think it could be the motor, and could be check the battery, starter or alternator. He checked none of these and insisted the motor was the cause of the nonstart. I could see my small car issue turning into a huge bill as they attempted to charge me for services I did not need. As a woman who was traveling alone out of state, I could see where I seemed like an easy mark, particularly when he kept looking at the engine and asking when I had had any work done or the oil changed. As I take my car in for service, I told him that the oil was changed two months ago and had had my car thoroughly inspected and repaired this past summer. I had an uneasy feeling that I would get ripped off if I turned my car over to this guy and an unknown garage. He also quoted me a tow price of $125 for a local tow!! I said that was not what I was willing to spend for a local tow and had just had my other car towed recently for $60-75 and I wasn't willing to pay that when I clearly stated on the phone that I was looking for service and not a tow. It then turned unpleasant as he began to say"you don't call for a tow and then refuse service" and " this is a $90,000 rig". I said that I was unwilling to trust my vehicle to him and he insisted that I owed him for coming out. I had imagined that the $20 or $30 cash I had would cover his gas and was more than fair. For not attempting to assist me with my car, i.e. jumping it, checking the starter wires for a loose connection, etc;, I found this to be absolutely ridiculous, but after much debating, I gave him my card just so I could get my car repaired by someone else and be able to get home soon. I regretted it instantaneously, but wasn't sure if I was within my rights to refuse to pay or not. I just feel as though, $65 was exorbitant when I called for service and received nothing but hard sell for service I did not need. I had my car towed to [redacted] and they said the motor was absolutely fine, my car needed a jump and charged me a total of $44 including the tow, despite having my car overnight because they were insistent to find a solution to my battery draining problem. It seems unscrupulous that this driver would charge me more for not providing any service than the garage charged me for a tow and service.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back. I specifically requested that the driver assist me in servicing my car to be operational. Not only did he not even look at my battery or any of the other components that may be the cause of my car problem, he attempted to work me up for a myriad of unnecessary repair work. It is unbelievable that someone who depends on customer service would not provide any and be so unethical.

I am rejecting this response because: it was never 20 minutes. I did call my husband, which took 5 minutes. As their garage is less than 5 minutes away, $125 for a tow was an excessive charge, particularly when the 2nd tow and jump cost me less than $50. . Also, who feels comfortable with someone setting them up for a replaced motor when all the car needed was a jump? I was very specific in calling and inquiring about what sort of service would be performed as I needed my car to get on the road, not be looked over for an expensive and unneeded repair. I asked specifically if a jump could be performed or checking the starter wires, both on the phone and in person. As neither was performed, I feel that I was not satisfied.

I would like a refund, as the only service performed for $65 was an assessment for how much money could be gotten from an out of town, woman driving alone.
