Kenosha Movers Reviews (1)

Review: [redacted] and his staff moved my household on January 4, 2014. During the move he did not cover some of my furniture and consequently damaged the furniture in excess of $600. When I discovered the damage [redacted] came to my house to see the damage. He claimed he was going to repair the damage himself. After two weeks I called him and he came over and instead of repairing the damage he colored the wood furniture and made the repair worse than the damage. He claimed he would return and again I did not hear from him. I called him and he became beligerant on the phone. He claimed I damaged the furniture and that his repair should have been good enough. He yelled at me by phone. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life. I wrote to [redacted] on February 28, 2014 with estimates from professionals to repair the damage. [redacted] has not responded. I do not want [redacted] in my home repairing any furniture. I want a check for $600 and will hire a professional to take care of his neglect. I realize things happen during a move and was not upset about the damage, I simply want it right.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of $600 in order to repair the furniture caused by [redacted] and Kenosha Movers.

Business

Response:

My name is [redacted]. I started as a mover in Oct. 1982 and have been in this business ever since. I began Kenosha Movers in 1998. I have a good reputation in the local area as a mover and business owner. I am on all the jobs that I take to assure every customer the same good service.

Myself and two employees did the [redacted] move. It was an easy job and went very well. We had a straight shot down a flight of stairs and no accidents occurred during the entire move.

There was one armoire that we were told would have to be lowered down from the second floor balcony. On her move in to this place two different moving companys were not able to bring it in up the stairs. Supposedly it would not fit. In anticipation of lowering this approximately 300 lb. piece down from the balcony I removed 4 drawers and unscrewed the door hinges leaving the hinges attached to the removed doors. At that point it was completely pad wrapped and covered with stretch wrap to assure the pads stay in place. The adjustable feet were screwed in tightly to the four legs. At this point [redacted] and I thought it should be able to just carry down the stairs so we made that attempt and it went down and through the door with great ease.

These were the only doors taken off of cabinets. Any mover who says we don't take doors off cabinets don't know this situation and in this type of circumstance it is totally called for. Doors were reinstalled upon delivery at destination and all screws went into wood tightly.

One week after the move I received a message from [redacted] that her armoire doors were not properly alligned and that her sofa had a mark on the front wood trin. I immediately knew that the armoire simply needed the adjustable legs screwed down to level the piece. I went out on the following Sun. to repair this problem for her. When I arrived she told me that she had now noticed other marks on a bed frame and a computer armoire's keyboard shelf.

With a Minwax stain marker I colored the rub mark on the sofa wood. It completely disappeared the mark. To this [redacted] told me that this was done to repair a mark previously, but the mark showed back later. I adjusted the armoire legs and the doors they closed properly. No argument from [redacted].

Marks on her son's bed were pre-existing in my opinion, but I was willing to come back again with a proper color stain marker. This bed when being taken apart had several screws that were totally stripped out of the wood. At destination, I and [redacted], together were able to come up with longer screws and I put bed together better than I found it. No argument from [redacted].

Fast forward a couple of weeks to a call from [redacted] on Sun. Jan. 26, asking when I would be able to come back to finish repair of marks and, by the way, now there is damage to a server and to the back leather of her sofa.

Call this the straw that broke the camel's back. I raised my voice, not yelled, telling her something to the affect that this doesn't seem to be going to end. I don't know where degrading her or the whole story of me taking advantage of her because she's a woman comes in.

We do damage to furniture from time to time by accident and I always make things right. We did not make these marks on her furniture. It's used and previously used furniture which she is now seeing in a new light and probably really thinks has been newly damaged.

She paid me in check, not in cash, as stated. She refers to me as a mover which is undeniable to anyone who sees me in action.

I don't feel she will ever be happy, unless she gets $600 from me and that will only happen if I have my day in court and am ordered by a judge. She signed on my invoice that her goods were received in good condition and told us all that we did an "awesome job". Damage that requires $600 in repair bills is at least partially noticeable at the moves completion.

I've, in my statement, tried to show the several untruths and exaggerations in the [redacted] story.

Response:

Though he does not acknowledge that they have done any damage, [redacted] is willing to offer $150 to the consumer to resolve this complaint.
