Hello K***, Thank you for taking my call Friday, and reading J***’s response to me For some reason, I still have not received your email with his actual written response Regardless, I cannot begin to express my dissappointment with J***’s response He effectlvely called me a liar and a free-loader His response seems to put the blame on the customer Further, the fact that he openly acknowledges his refusal to contact me contradicts his mission statement that he cares about his customers. In listening to you read his response, it appears that J [redacted] also obviously didn’t take the time to read my last text Unfortunately, I don’t have any other way of communicating with him other than his phone numbers In his response to you, J [redacted] mentions a cosmetic repair to our master bath window If he has read my last text, he would have known that the window is no longer an issue I hired a 2nd painter to repair his repair J [redacted] indicates he shouldn’t be responsible for the window work The problem with his repair was not the leak, but the type of filler that he used It changed color and bled into the paint The filler residue that had been left on the window itself also changed color, even though it wasn’t wet The 2nd painter used a different type of filler, and we’ve not had any more problems.I will send the estimate from J [redacted] in a separate email We paid $2695.00, in full ( minus a partial credit of $for an exterior pressure-wash redo that my husband had to do My husband was very upset that he had to redo ththe rain) You will see that J [redacted] did charge for “master bedroom walls”, and “laundry room walls”, “bedroom walls” At the time, he did confirm that this meant all walls in each of these rooms His indication that he was only doing partial painting "here and there" is incorrectThe “free work” that J [redacted] said they did for me was linear feet of caulking along one bathroom sink and along one kitchen cabinet They also did a couple of caulk lines in the master shower I offered to pay them for their work, but it was his choice not to charge me.There was also a minor (free) paint touchup around the bases of the towel racks in the master bath They were doing "wall in master bath” anyway It would have been better had I not asked. This touchup project was about the width 2cms around the bases of the towel racks Sadly, touchup resulted in 2-inch wide rings of a different shade of the bathroom color around the each base This, of course, is much more noticeable When I brought this to J***’s attention, he told me he instructed his crew to paint the whole of each affected wall where they did the touch ups (free) They only painted and tried to blend above the towel racks This was not part of the list of concerns in my text, but since he brought up doing “free work” for me I am not asking for him to redo any of this I am only using this as an example of the quality of workmanship that was performed..If asking J [redacted] and his crew to redo sloppy work is called “free work” , then I suppose I asked for lots of “free work" They were paid to fill and paint over cracks above some of the doors and windowsThey were also asked to make sure that the repair was seamless I had to ask several times, especially in areas of high visibility, for the crew to sand down the filler that they used so that it was not a visible repair. One example of the lack of attention to detail concerns the shutters There was a color correction that I had to ask them to do I told J [redacted] that we needed to repaint the outside shutters to the original color, as they were FADED from 15+ years of weathering He instead matched the FADED color, and I had to ask them to go with a darker grey to best match the original color I notified them as soon as I saw the color- which was pretty early on J [redacted] never asked or confirmed the color he was going to use I suppose this correction is more of the “free” work that I supposedly asked him to do I will take ownership of not asking to see the color before they started on the shutters Please note that the end result was more than acceptable This may be an of what J [redacted] may be calling “free” work I was also frustrated when I had to ask the crew to do some work that was on the estimate, and they seemed not to have been instructed by J [redacted] to perform the work I had to show them the estimate to prove that I was paying for those services. The following is a list of our concerns at this point This was in my last text to J*** There has been no response from him to date There is paint-over of the PAID repair in that bathroom, which didn’t match They were paid to have done the “wall in the master bath", which is really only a partial , upper part of the wall , above the cabinets, door, and mirrors I told J [redacted] that there were streaks of different paint color where they painted over their repair I paid for “grout in master shower” His crew didn’t realize that the master shower work was part of the estimate, and looked at me like I was asking for “free work” I had to show them his bid to verify that I paid $for them to re-grout the master shower.Even then, one of his crew members spent about minutes spreading a very thin layer of seemingly dried-out grout that didn’t even completely cover the old surface The result was patchy and rough We waited days , as per his instruction before using the shower The “regrout” still looked sloppy after the daysI asked them to redo it since it was rough, and still didn’t cover the existing grout in some areas, but I was told that was the best he could do, that there was special paint that I could use, and we would have to wait another days to use our shower, so I let it go Remember, please, that we paid to "grout the shower” As to "painting walls”: “Master bedroom walls" ( verification is on the bid) I had to ask them to repaint some of areas because they didn’t completely cover the walls In some cases, the bay windows were" cut", but the surrounding wall itself was not paintedThe current concern is that here is still one area where they “cut” around a light switch, but didn’t paint that section of the wall The difference in the paint color is very obvious Again the bid states “master bedroom walls”.Note:This also happened in an upstairs “Bedroom walls” ( also a complete repaint as per J***’s bid) I had to ask them to redo that as well because there were obvious paint differences with each wall and the edges I don’t consider calling that “free” work, especially since we paid to repaint the whole room Since they redid the walls ( at my request), I am not asking for repaint of “Bedroom walls” We asked J [redacted] to paint our utility room The bid says “paint walls in utility room" The walls on either side of the washer dryer were only painted above the appliance line, and a little farther down The washer and dryer were never moved to do a complete jobThere was also a section of kitchen cabinets that we asked for them to paint The result is thick, unmathced, and already starting to chip We’ve been in this house for years, and the “original” paint job was not chipping I only wanted to freshen the paint on this section of the cabinets There was also confusion regarding whether to use flat or satin, evidently They purchased flat, and the existing cabinets finish was satin This was a CORRECTION, not “free” work The surface now seems to have both flat and satin, and is noticeable. The biggest problem to me seemed to be communication between J [redacted] and his crew over what to do, and that they all seemed to be hurried and distracted, as if they had to go to other jobs I don’t know that that was a fact, but the result for me lack of attention to detail and my numerous requests for redosThe job took longer than expected and cut into my time as well I have no complaints, per se, about J***’s crew They were hardworking, and did not take breaks I bought them lunch each day, and gave them a tip for their work efforts My concern with Carolina Painting is about the quality of workmanship, attention to detail, and, mostly, Customer Service AFTER the “sale” If J [redacted] was/is so concerned about quality, he should have come out to check on the job before I paid him AND, he should have at least honored the appointment on May , that was set up rather than cancel because he had a "golf meeting” Given what you have told me about J***’s response, I am no longer comfortable with Carolina Painting coming back out to correct our concernsI am now asking that J [redacted] refund the charge for: Master shower “re-grout”, and that he refund Whatever is fair to correct rest of the painting that was not completed properly on the one wall in the master bedroom, The cost of properly painting the”wall in master bath” The full cost of the section of the kitchen cabinets, Partial refund ( walls) on the "utility room walls" I will have to pay someone else to do this.Again, I reported these concerns to J***’s wife, and apparent business manager, early on I did tell her at the time that I would try to avoid having them perform any redos, if other people did not notice Unfortunately , the concerns that I mentioned were noticeable to other people Therefore I called Carolina Painting back , and C [redacted] (sp) was amiable enough to schedule the Mayappointment for J [redacted] to inspect This was the appointment that he missed due to a “golf meeting” - per his text response to me.I will have to send you the estimate and photos in a second email Thanks again for your time and your kind efforts in this matter.Kindest regards, N [redacted] G***

The work that was completed on this job was for touch ups, etc for this home in addition to some caulking touch ups to help mend what appeared to be a leakWe noted that the potential water leak wasn't something we could fix (we aren't carpenters)but we spackled the board where it was warped and then caulked the area in questionThe problem clearly persisted, which to us indicates an underlying issue that we are not equipped to resolve for herWe also completed individual walls (not rooms, per her requests) and we extended the project out by a day to accommodate touch ups and additional areas that she wanted us to paintBy the end of the project, we completed several surfaces free of chargeThe original work was approved by the homeowner, paid in full, and touch ups were completed for her before we even received paymentA month and a half after the work was completed, she reached out to us to come back out immediately to complete additional work; we weren't able to accommodate her original scheduling request (prior to a home inspection), she became mildly irateOur schedule stays about a month booked in advance, and a lack of understanding from the client makes future partnerships difficult When she reached out to us again, J [redacted] noted that she would need to call a carpenter out to handle any issue that might be causing the persistent leakHer original contact with the office indicated that there were walls never painted (which we weren't contracted to paint) and that the leak was showing again (not something we can handle)At this juncture, we are unable to complete additional work for Norma, and it would appear that she is inconvenienced by that so she has decided to complain to the Revdex.comIn summation, when we left her house she approved the work prior to paymentWe didn't hear from her at all for a month+ after that, when we couldn't accommodate her immediate need for additional projects to be completed prior to a home inspection she became perturbed, and since then the dynamic has become an unhealthy partnershipWe pride ourselves on the work we complete, which is why we ensure customer satisfaction prior to leaving a job site, so we regret that she feels neglected but there is nothing further we can or will do at this time
