Late I converted my furnace from propane to natural gasDuring the lead up to the conversion, I had Kidder (whom I purchased the furnace from) quote me a price to convertThe original quote was $I also had to have a gas line dug by consumersDuring this process, I made it known to the Kidder employee that I intended to use the pre-existing gas piping from the propane tank to run the natural gasThe propane tank was on the far end of the house and the gas piping ran to roughly the center of the house where the furnace is locatedI had consumers come out and they dug the gas line and placed the meterWhen I called to have Kidder come out and do the conversion, the quote became $500, possibly moreThey knew I was on a tight budget and had to struggle to gather up the fundsWhen they came out to do the work, I wasn't there and my roommate (who was not authorized to make any decisions) let them do additional work that I was not informed aboutThis worked out to being $for the completed workQuadruple the initial quote and double the second quote
When I cried foul, they explained that they couldn't use the pre-existing piping because of differences between Propane and Natural GasOk fineBut what they never did was TELL me this BEFORE I had Consumers dig the gas line and place the meterThey could have placed the meter literally anywhere I asked them toHad I been informed of the issue with the piping, I wouldn't have had them put the meter at the furthest possible point! I would have placed it at the center of the house, cutting the distance by at least half and ergo, the price of the workI was even told by the president of the company himself that he was aware of this issue previous to the meter being placedDue to my anger and confusion at the time, I did not realize he was admitting that they intentionally ripped me off by allowing me to put myself into a position of creating a need for unnecessary work
While the work itself was done professionally (I assume anyway, as I am not qualified to judge it), I clearly am not pleased with them taking advantage of my lack of knowledge of gas and pipingNeedless to say I will not use them in the future and would not recommend them to anyone unless you don't care about getting ripped off
It should be noted that the company president DID dock $off of the price, but it still set me back months on my finances

Kidder is a fabulous company to work with! Their customer service is superb and everyone we came in contact with was professional and courteous.
We purchased a furnace from them after our ancient unit started setting off the carbon monoxide detector. They provided us with temporary heaters and had the new unit installed within two days.
We will be needing a new air conditioner this summer and our first, and only call, will be to Kidder Heating and Air Conditioning.

We have worked with Kidder Heating for several years. The experience has been professional, timely and very well done. Every time we have had to call we have had the same experience. We would highly recommend Kidder Heating for any new installation or service work. We have been very satisfied with everything Kidder's Heating has done for us.

February 14, 2015

Mr. [redacted],

I am writing to express my disappointment.

On January 14 2015, I requested a service call for no heat.
I notified the service dispatcher taking the call that the power was down in the entire city of Olivet and I had a generator running to power the furnace.

The service person told my wife repeatedly that she should not run the furnace on a generator. He also wrote on the service sheet that the furnace was in “poor condition from lack of yearly tune ups.” I travel extensively for my work, so he could not ask me for the records but, as my wife has operated a licensed childcare in the home for over 23 years, all the appliances must be inspected prior to license renewal. She has access to the records. All he had to do was ask.
It seems that the service person based the opinion solely on the sticker on the unit. Apparently other service providers do not use the service stickers of previous providers. That must be why I now have a sticker for your company plastered on the unit below the earlier one.
The recommendation for a tune up was accepted and the service approved. The service representative said another service call must be requested. I don’t understand why the tune up could not be performed at the time of the first call. When a car is diagnosed and repairs needed, is another appointment required? Rarely.

A word on the generator, it is a 1.5KW powering only the furnace and the refrigerator through the fuse block in the garage and the breaker box in the house. I have operated both of circuits with this generator during power outages for the 27 years I’ve owned this house with no issues.

An appointment was scheduled for January 19 2015. A different service person arrived on time and prepared to complete the task. At the end of the service call I received written and verbal assurance the furnace was in proper operating condition.
Total cost of the two service calls was $287.95 paid in full with by check.

On January 31 2015, I called to notify customer service that the furnace was not working again and requested a callback from a customer service representative.
I had to have another person clean the drain and clear the drain hose of obstructions.
The drain hose also had a split in it. I am concerned that two service calls from your company didn’t reveal the unserviceable hose or clear the crud out of the unit as advertised. I did receive two calls from your company representatives that day. The first caller was a service person asking if I wanted an appointment and the second said I was a wrong number after I identified myself and asked who was calling.

Two weeks have pasted since I requested a conference with you. The necessity of repeat customers must no longer be valid.

Disappointedly,
