then proceeded to take it back into Kim Hansen for repairs they then told us after a diagnostic That my spark plug wires needed replaced. On Friday night my car malfunctioned again because they had screwed my spark plug in to tight stripping the boot and causing the spark plug to blow again. After taking into Kim Hansen again and not getting quality service another mechanic had to remove the top of the engine to remove the spark plug that was screwed in by the employees.Customer purchased car “AS IS” on 9/21/2017 with 158,138 miles on the odometer. The customer had possession of the car previous to the sale to test drive and inspect.On November 22 the customer called the dealership and said a spark plug had “blown” out of the engine. She had a friend or family member replace the plug and they told here the plug hole had a helicoil insert on the cylinder with the blown plug.[redacted] called to say that we had sold them a car that had not been inspected and had problems including that the cylinder had oil and water. She accused us of willfully selling them a car that had known engine trouble A local parts store had told them the engine was likely destroyed. We denied knowing of any of these concerns and that the car functioned well at time of sale and had indeed gone through and passed our service inspection. We do not remove spark plugs or disassemble drive train components during a used car inspection, nor do we tell our customers that a used car with (in this case) 158,000 miles on it at time of purchase is going to last for any finite period of time. These are unknowns and the reason used cars sell for much less than new ones, thus was sold AS IS”.We told her to bring the car in to our shop and we would not charge for diagnosis but that she would be required to pay for any approved repairs. We found misfire on cylinder #1 with unburned fuel and oil in the cylinder. Also the plug boot on the damaged plug was torn. This unburned fuel and oil is what the customer was seeing in the cylinder. We sold the customer a boot kit (4 plug boots) to stop the plug misfire. Customer brought vehicle back in November 25th with check engine light on. We found misfire on #2 cylinder. The #2 spark plug would not remove. We informed customer that perhaps the helicoil had failed and could require head removal to repair threads on the #2 plug hole. Customer chose to take vehicle elsewhere for repairs.
Customer drove car for two months after purchase and before complaint.Vehicle was sold "as is" as high mile older vehicle.Customer was never told that we remove spark plugs or any other component of a used vehicle during the safety inspection. Customer was given opportunity to test drive and inspect the vehicle before the purchase.Customer chose to have others make the repairs.We deny all accusations of lying to customer prior to, or after the vehicle sale. That is not in our interest or 40 year reputation.
