Dr Arp's dental Practice at The *** & *** Family Dentistry, 240 Wiley Blvd SW is using deceptive practices with their patients.
Dr Arp purchased Dr Akey's dental practice in April, 2017. All patient information including appointments were transferred to Dr Arp. On May and *** my husband and I were contacted by Dr Arp's office to remind us of our previously scheduled (thru Dr Akey) 6 month check-up appointments. During those appointments, both my husband (May 24) and I (*** 15) presented our Insurance cards and told three different dentist employees (the receptionist, the hygienist, and the checkout clerk) that our insurance always paid for our semi-annual checkup and teeth cleaning and annual x-rays and that it was our expectation that would not change. We we're assured it would be paid. In addition, I was told I needed an x-ray even after I told the hygienist I had one 6 months previous and that I only wanted it if insurance covered it. I was told it would be covered. In August we received a bill for $220.50. I immediately went to the dental office and reiterated what we told them earlier and questioned the bill. I was told the office did not have a contract with our insurance company so we were "Out Of Network" and the insurance covered only part of the cost. On September 5 we wrote a letter to Dr Arp explain in detail what had transpired. We told her we thought her employees were being deceptive when talking to patients whose records she acquired when she purchased the business from Dr Akey. On September 7 Dr Arp called me. She apologized and asked if we needed to set up a payment plan. I repeated my displeasure and said her employees were deceptive and should have told us about being "Out Of Network". She took no responsibility for her employees action and basically all we're getting is an apology. Because Dr Arp's employees withheld information we feel they are either being deliberately deceptive or at a minimum, incompetent. We feel we owe nothing.
