My complaint against Kinel Enterprises has been resolved as of 11/4/16.   [redacted]

The original contract was for adding a bedroom and three- seasons room, and changing a small, existing room into a master bathroom. We received our final inspection on June 30th of 2016. Yes, it did take longer than it was expected to take, but there were several reasons for that. First, after we...

had finished the footer and foundation to the specifications laid out in the drawings and contract that were reviewed and signed, the customer wanted to increase the size of the bedroom. So, we tore down one side of the foundation, dug a new footer, have it re-inspected, then built the foundation again, and had it re-inspected as well. Second, Dominion Power had to move the meter base which took a couple of months because there had been sever storms in the area which required extensive repairs to return power to thousands of affected homes. Because of these repairs, projects like ours were postponed. Third, we had a very rough winter which prevented us from working outside because of the weather.1. "I was supposed to get grouted tile in the master bath and got glued down tile." I installed the tile that the customer picked for the floor. They chose a glue- down vinyl tile, and that was what we installed.2. "The shower doors did not fit properly." At the time of installation the shower door worked properly and swung both ways.3. "The trim on the front of the house was not replaced, and the storm door had a huge crack under it." This was not part of the original scope of work but the customer asked me to replace the storm door and the trim around the door, and I said I would do it. So I purchased the door that they selected and changed the trim around the door where the screw holes were. All for no extra charge, even though it was not included in the contract.4."the sun porch carpet was not installed." The sun porch was to have deck boards installed according to the contract. The husband asked me to use pressure treated plywood instead, so I did as he asked. The price for deck boards and plywood are comparable so it was not a problem. Then the wife assumed I was going to install carpet in the sun porch. From the first mention of carpet I said that it would be an extra charge. She agreed to pay the extra charge which would include installation. So I sent them to my carpet company directly, so that I would not have to add my percentage to the cost. Somehow in their minds I refused to install it.5. "the Vinyl siding was loose in a lot of places." When they first mentioned the siding being loose I had them show me where it was loose, and they did. Most of what they showed me was in the middle of the siding sheets, and I explained that the siding was nailed at the top and bottom, but not in the middle. One of the areas that they complained about was sagging, it had been melted from their barbecue being too close to the side of the house. I changed those two pieces at no charge to them.6. "The new door on the back was dented and had a big scratch in it." The door was in goo shape at the completion of the addition. This is the first time I have heard about this.7. "He wasn't supposed to talk to my husband." The husband was involved in every meeting we had, he also came out and talked to us pretty much every day we were there. It would have been rude to not speak with him when he approached us with questions.8. "Issues exist with wiring also." At the time of the electrical final inspection and building inspections the wiring was fine. This is the first I have heard of this problem.9. "Windows on the sun porch do not fit properly." One window had shifted to the right. I spoke with the husband about the process to reinstall the window and he said not to do it.10. "Trim on sun porch." I did all of the trim at the same time, it all matched them. This is the first time I have heard of this problem.11. " Mismatched hardware on doors." It was all the same when I was there. This is the first I have heard of this.12. "Existing bathroom not finished or painted." I was to install an exhaust fan, put shelves in an old window, and hang a new mirror. We never talked about painting this bathroom.13. "Living room not finished." We never talked about doing anything in the living room. This is the first time I have heard about this.14. "Platform outside not completed." I agreed to build them a 10x10, self-standing deck. I did build them a 10x10 deck. It was done a while ago. When I left they had even stained it, so I don't know what isn't done about it.15. "The lattice work was not installed properly." I installed it with trim and built a removable door for access under the sun porch. This is the first time I have heard of this problem.16. "No lock on bathroom door." I never agreed to change the bathroom door knob. It is an old fashioned mortise lock that are not available any more. To put a new lock on would require installing a new door. I made this clear from the beginning.17. "doorway not widened." I never agreed to widen the door because it would not fit into the space available, I told them this upfront.18. Ceiling issues." What ceiling? I don't know about any ceiling issues.19. "Paint issues." Where? We did a final paint walk through and at the time it was satisfactory. I did have to paint some rooms three times ot make the customers happy.20. "Storm door on front not finished." It was at the time of installation. We strive as a company to do whatever it takes to make our clients happy. I am also willing to do extra work, if the client is willing to pay for it. We went above and beyond for this client, even to the point of losing money to accommodate them. I am sorry they are unhappy with our work for them, but I cannot fix what I do not know about. I would be willing to do repairs for them, if they are willing to finish paying us according to the contract they signed.
