King Oldsmobile, Cadillac & GMC Truck Reviews (1)

Emission test resulting in radiator damage. I brought my 1990 Corvette to King's Cadillac GMC last Friday (4-12-13) to have the emission tested. When I called I was told the tech heard a pop then saw steam and shut the car down. At this point service was closing. So I went back on Saturday to check the problem. I found the coolant over flow filled to overflowing. I then filled the radiator with 3 gallons of water till I saw it start leaking I pressurized the system and saw a ribbon of water coming from the right side of the radiator. I was told to talk with the [redacted] on Monday. On Monday I called your office to find what rights I had. I was told to call Applus. I did and spoke to [redacted] there. She in formed me that the dealership is insured. When I went to King's and spoke to [redacted] he told me "It's a 20 year old car. It could have happen to me on my way home". I replied "But it didn't it happen in your shop". I continued to explain to him that I have replaced all the coolant hoses with new Gates hoses. Last winter removed the radiator to paint the shroud. At that time I flushed the radiator and pressure tested it. After reinstalling I pressure tested the system at 15 pounds for over an hour with no drop in pressure. The week before the emission test I ran the car for an hour and a half watching the temp gauge and fans cycle. With no problem. [redacted] knows I was a certified auto mechanic for 12 years. I only worked in new car dealerships. I took many GM courses even going to Dedham, Ma. for GM training. I think that the problem was neglect on the part of the tech not seeing the vehicle over heating. C4 Corvettes get air for the radiator from under the car. Being raised in the rear on the treadmill it doesn't receive air from the fan they use. HALF WAY THROUGH THE TEST THE INSPECTOR HEARD A POP SOUND AND SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD.AFTER STOPPING THE TEST, WE IMMEDIATELY DID AN INSPECTION AND FOUND COOLANT LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE AREA. I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE INSPECTOR, AND I HAD HIM REMOVE THE CAR FROM THE INSPECTION LANE. I THEN NOTIFIED THE CUSTOMER. HE CAME DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WE INSPECTED THE CAR TOGETHER. NO OBVIOUS LEAKS WERE SEEN AT THIS TIME. THE NEXT DAY I WAS INFORMED BY THE STATE INSPECTION COMPANY THAT [redacted] FILED A COMPLAINT ON THE TEST INSPECTION. THE STATE INSPECTION COMPANY REVIEWED THE VIDEO TAPE OF THE INSPECTION AND EVERYTHING WAS PERFORMED CORRECTLY AND NO FURTHER ACTION AGAINST US WAS GOING TO BE FILED. THE CASE HAS BEEN CLOSED BY THE STATE INSPECTOR.
