Revdex.com spoke by phone with the business. Consumer brought in the vehicle complaining of a noise in the engine. A friend had told him the noise was coming from the alternator.  Upon investigation, the business discovered that, while there was a slight noise from the alternator, the major issue was...

a noisy water pump bearing.  They called the consumer with an estimate before they did the work, and he approved it.  So they replaced the water pump, leaving a very slight squeal from the alternator.   When the consumer returned, he was upset that there was still a noise.  The business then put a replacement alternator in at their expense in order to satisfy the customer. They did not charge him for the part or the labor. The work they did was absolutely necessary, and the water pump was about to fail. Consumer was not charged for the alternator, which would have actually been a more expensive repair than the water pump.
