The Kirby sales person came and knocked on my door offering to give "free carpet cleanings." He told us a story about how he is a single dad and his wife had mental health issues and his world is now taking care of his daughter. He told us he was just getting back into the business of selling vacuum cleaners. We agreed to let him come in to clean a few rugs but told him we weren't in market for a new vacuum.
My wife felt bad and saw some value in the vacuum even thought it was very expensive (almost $2,000). The sales rep cut his price in half from what he originally quoted and promised us it was the newest version to his knowledge. This was completely untrue, he was trying to unload old inventory because his warehouse was getting a new model. He was an "independent contractor" so when I called after finding out post sale there was a new model coming out, he was no where to be found. I looked him in the eye and asked if he knew of a new model and told him we would wait if there was one coming out anytime soon. He said he didn't know of a new model. His number was disconnected after I found out there was and I had to hunt down the distributor he was working for.
He was working part time for "Kirby Co" of San Antonio. Despite the woman at Kirby Co being very friendly there was no remedy outside of her trying to find the sales rep. They did not service the sale and were not willing to take it back. I asked to talk to the general manager many times without a call back. However, they did say I could buy the newest version for another $400. This has been going on for at least a month without a call back from the general manager at Kirby Co of San Antonio or the sales rep, [redacted].
