Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because no offer posted.
Monday, April 7, 2014Dear **. [redacted],I am writing in response to complaint ID [redacted]. Attached please find the consumer’s first contact to me regarding the generator installation, my requested written response to him and his last response to me.First, please note that this...
installation occurred between September and October of 2011.1 find it difficult to believe that this generator was used for the first time in January 2014. With that being said, if there was a problem with the installation why did the consumer not call me - the installer. As a consumer myself whenever 1 have had an issue with services I paid for I contact the vendor I paid to do said service to rectify the situation. The consumer never attempted to reach me outside of his first certified letter.Second, as you will read in my written response to consumer. I agreed to do this job as a friend because I am not licensed in [redacted] County and the consumer knew this from the beginning.Third and most disturbing, as you will read in consumer’s first letter, there is no mention of an actual fire. However, in his statement to you there was. I believe this to be slanderous. With that being said, why would the consumer want me to come back out to his residence? What did he want me to do after another electrical contractor had “remedied” the situation? If I caused one fire certainly I am capable of causing a second! In closing I must say I find this situation very disturbing. As you will read in the consumer’s second letter he is warning me off his property and to have no further contact when I had already stated in my response I would not have anything further to do with the generator as the consumer had contracted another electrician. Also please note the discrepancy in dates. It seems with each new correspondence from the consumer the situation and damages grow.Sincerely,
Review: Kirby Electric Inc. of Rockville MD; Installed my brand new 12K Standby Generator. This proved to be a precarious, dangerous install. Kirby Inc. installed his own switch box with a modified switch that was not original equipment of the manufacturer. He installed 200 Amp Service into a 100 Amp switch box. I learned this information after having a licensed qualified electrician check the install after the syste** failure. Kirby Inc. kept the switch box that came with the new Standby Generator. Kirby Inc. provided the altered switch box that failed and caused an electrical fire in my [redacted]. Fortunately, I was [redacted] and successful in shutting down the system prior to its spreading. The switch box, however, was destroyed. I have and will maintain possession of the damaged switch box for any official review(s). I contacted Kirby INC on two occasions after the damage occurred. He claimed he would respond and fix the system, at NO CHARGE. We agreed on the following day 02-09-2014 at 11:00 AM. Kirby FAILED to show. I haven't spoken with him since. I gave him an opportunity to make things right. He agreed to it, however, his actions as noted, refused corrective measures. The original installation was incorrectly completed with CODE Violations. I have in my possession a written list of Code violations as well as reasons for failure prepared by an accredited licensed generator specialist. I also contracted with a Company to re-install a new switch box and complete wiring to replace the original install. I did this after Kirby Inc. refused in the action to address the issues. Kirby INC did this work in [redacted] MD and is not licensed to do so. I acquired this information after the fact.Desired Settlement: Hope to accomplish:1.Protect anyone else from possible [redacted] fire, and/or injury or worse. Also to protect them from financial loss to the above as well as having to repair/replace faulty installations.2.Recuperate funds originally charged from Kirby INC. Minimum for the original install of $1,750.00. Additionally charges for electrician to disconnect and re-wire to [redacted] to utility. (Bill not received yet). Return of original Generator Switch box or cash value.
