KJ's ATA Martial Arts Reviews (15)

Our family has been with KJ's ATA for nearly years now and we could not be happierKJ's has become a second home for usWe have met some truly amazing people since we started with KJ'sWe absolutely love the instructors and their dedication and commitment to not only the students; but also the families and communityWe have watched not only our children, but also countless other children grow with KJ's and not just learn, but internalize all of the life skills taughtThe leadership program is unparalleled to any other that we have seenMrD [redacted] and our KJ's family have been a constant source of support to our family and are truly committed to seeing all of their families succeed not only with Taekwondo but also their home lifeMrDurant's commitment doesn't stop at the school...we have often come to him to support various community events and organizations to which he, without hesitation, eagerly helpsThis is a great place for families to learn martial arts, build relationships, and strengthen the family bondWith all that being said, I find it truly disheartening to read some of the reviews posted by former KJ's familiesWhen I first came into KJ's two years ago, I spoke to MrD [redacted] about the school and what my family should expectWe were given several different options and I chose to sign a contract for the year leadership program for our son; our entire family is now signed upIt seems that parents are so eager to sign a contract to take advantage of the great deals and then expect to not be held to the terms of said contractI'd like to see those same parents sign a contract with hour fitness, AT&T or any other service provider and try to cancel the contract before the term ends and act surprised when there are fees involvedI'd also like to see those same parents sign their children up for any other sport and expect to not have to pay for equipment, uniforms, camps and tournament feesHere are a few things those families aren't saying...You want to talk about fees and costs?...MrD [redacted] organizes numerous fundraisers in order to help his students pay to attend tournamentsHe takes time away from his family and personal life to help raise money to make it a little easier for his students....that is dedicationHe believes so much in his students and is so committed to their success that he will work with them through difficult financial times...that is integrityWant to attack his character?...Parents often call MrD [redacted] at all hours on his personal cell phone with problems that they are having with their children at home or school and he will find a way to work that into his leadership classHe engages in an open dialogue with the kids of real issues that they are facing and help guide them to make good decisions...that is commitmentLastly...what these families aren't saying...is that MrD [redacted] has helped countless families...including their's...What a shame that all of that is so quickly forgotten

I have had my daughter at KJ's ATA for over months MrD [redacted] has a great week trail offer for only $and allows you to get to know his staff and teaching philosophy What impress me the most was when we walk thru the doors you could tell the family atmosphere right away He did not try to shove a contract down our throats but informed us of the various options he has available while we were in the Intro Program His rates were far better then any of the other surrounding Martial Arts school with ample space for parents to watchWe signed up for the Leadership Program because we believe in what he is teaching and we can see the results in our daughter Keep up the good work KJ's

I have been attending KJ's ATA Martial Arts for close to years now I know the owner and head instructor very well They are of the nicest and honorable people that I know When I joined I was very overweight and extremely out of shape Yes, when you join there is a financial commitment What business can run without customersBut at KJ's you are not just a customer As you train your body you are also exposed to life skills The instructors do their best to help train the mind as well as the body I have seen so many children over the years come out of their cocoons and blossom as young people Students with physical problems over come those problems and become more agile and able to control their body's like they could not before training It is a commitment But who ever said getting a Black Belt was supposed to be easy It is not Testing and doing certain material is not all it is about It is what you do after you get it MrD [redacted] helped me win the World Championship in sparring in my ring last July I could not have done it without him Was it hard, yes Did I feel like quitting at times, yes But I didn't When you attend a martial arts school you will get out of it what you are willing to put into it Do not let disgruntled parents of students who got bored, or decided it was to hard keep you away from this school

We just joined a little over six months ago and I normally do not do surveys but when I went to KJ's not only are they welcoming and forth coming it is familyI read the "few" negative surveys and they all revolve around following thru on your commitmentMrD*** encourages you to do the intro special before making a commitment, so I find it funny that someone who has signed up for an intro, then a contract and then a renewal could blame them for holding you to your commitmentThis is a two way street and my daughter knows the commitment we made and what my husband and I have made to her and our schoolSitting with other parents there have been great and the only people who have issues are the ones that MrD*** and his staff hold to the rulesKeep up the good work because 99% are in your corner

My kids and I have been part of the school for 1/yearsWe have had a very positive experienceMy daughter is a junior instructor and my adhd son is a black beltAll the kids that make it to black belt are amazing indivduals - we love it!

I'm am so very thankful that my family found this school almost years ago when my daughter was years oldShe started off as a very shy and timid young lady, and we wanted to find a place where she would be able to build some confidence and learn some very important life skillsMr D*** and his school have exceeded our expectations, and together with much perseverance she is now a second degree black beltI can not express how much Mr D*** and all of the instructors at KJ's ATA are dedicated to giving 110% to every student that walks through the doors, and make it their personal goal to see each student succeedIf you are looking for a positive atmosphere, where your child can learn, grow, and be part of an awesome family/community then this is the place to be

We moved to Sacramento three years ago .Enrolling my two kids in KJ's ATA was one of the best decision that my wife and I madeOur kids have significantly gained the physical strength as well as the mental strength that we were hoping for themThey respect the instructorsThey receive support from their peers and give support to their peers on the regular basic: during class, testings, tournamentsBoth of them want to continue this challenging sport for a long time

My family and I love Kj's!! My son has been attending over a year and half and has come a long wayMy son was a very shy kid, never really leaving my leg :-) and when he first went in the staff their, Mr & Mrs D*** welcomed me to join him so he would feel comfortableRight away we noticed Mr D*** was very kind and friendly, he is very straight forward and stands by the things that he teaches his student, very few can do that todayMy sons self esteem went up where other family members saw the confidence and pride he had when he talk about karateThe student their are awesome, always supporting and encouraging each other ....we get excited to support when someone gets their black belt! If you're looking for a place to better your child, to excel in every area to be a model citizen and can handle tough love then this is the place for you! And once you're in you'll notice this isn't just a temporary place to come and go, this is a life changing experience and soo worth it! #ATALIFE

My daughter joined the school years ago and has succeeded in achieving her black belt under the guidance and instruction of MrD***I was fully aware of my contractual agreement when signing upI believe all the instructors at KJ's ATA have the best interest of the students at heartWhen starting I had no idea my daughter would go so far, prior she was a dancer, it shocked me when she said she wanted to continue in to get her black beltShe has succeeded and we couldn't be prouderThey have taught her not only to defend herself but to be confident in abilities , stand up for what's right and to set goals and achieve them We are very happy to be part of KJ's ATAWe must also remember this is a small business, the backbone of our nation, it is not easy to be a small business nowAs an owner of a small, family run business I understand the difficulties he facesIt is harder when you come to know your clients as friends and family, but the bottom line is the business needs to make income to survive, no one should be faulted for making money to pay their mortgage and feed their families

My family has been with KJ's ATA for about years nowWe all worked up the ranks and became Black Belts, which is not something I ever thought I would do in my lifeWe started with just my daughter on the floor, but MrDurant encourages families to do Taekwondo together, and so you will find more families learning here than at any other school I have seenThis school is different than most, the instructors really care about the students, and want to watch them learn and growIt isn't just about learning Taekwondo, it is also learning about things such as Respect, Perseverance, Integrity and moreThis school tries to teach the philosophies behind Taekwondo, not just rush you through belt levelsMrDurant does expect students to learn the material thoroughly, don't expect to be handed your beltHe pushes his students to reach their full potential, and to strive to be better And yes, you have to sign a contract when you start, but it is simple and straightforward, and every other school I looked at before joining also had contracts, it is nothing unusualAnd yes, he does expect you to fulfill that contract, but doesn't every business? I would and have recommended this school to anyone looking for a good school where you will actually learn self-defense and self-esteem

This is an awesome school with the best instructorsI have kids enrolled, with the 4th starting soonWe have been part of this internationally recognized family for the past years! My kids have literally grown up with this school and don't intend to stop anytime soon!
Aside from exercise and self defense, this school teaches life skills, such as respect and perseverance, as well as, forms lifelong bonds of friendship and brotherhood!

The school owner does not deliver what is promisedHe does very little instructing and has the higher belt students instruct the classesIf you ask him to help your child, he will offer his private lessons for 150.00/ hr on top of the already high tuition cost you payThis is a very expensive sport and very little effort by the owner
The owner locks customers into contracts with no room for cancellations no matter the reasonKids lose interest all the time and that doesn't matterYou are locked in for yearsHe builds a wall from all students who decide to take a break not allowing them to come backHe is spiteful and is not the best interest of your child
