Hello ***Here is my response to the complaint from [redacted] in [redacted] ***First I would like to state that in ten years of being a California contractor, that this is the first time I have not been able to resolve a situation with a client!I kjt construction contracted with [redacted] to pour concrete for him, we poured the front driveway in the first pour, the driveway turned out flawlessly , but the customer still found fault in the work. But we got through and proceeded to pour the back yard concrete. After we poured the customer said they didn't like the concrete color that they choose and wanted it all replaced at my cost, they they continued to find fault in my work, and wanted me to install new coping and sealer around the pool , which was not in the bid! Then I realized that the final batch of concrete was sent the wrong color, from the concrete supplier.I continued to try and resolve the problem with making the concrete co to pay for the mistake, when the customer became unbearable to deal with, and I no longer felt comfortable working for them.Ps I'm the one who has not gotten paid for on the job, they owe me 3,700$ for the final invoice!Ps I'm the victim in this situation! Thanks [redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
Attached is a document with pictures and responsesThis will highlight why we do not accept his comments. Here is my response to *** ***'s commentsHis comments are misleadingI would like to
share some of the photos from our backyard to highlight his poor workmanship and then Revdex.com
can be the judge of if he is the "victim" or us
Also, I would like to emphasize that through this process, I want to help set expectations right for
KJT's future clients if they decide to contract with himHe is NOT an 'A' quality contractorOur
drive way turned out well, there were some details I would have liked him to pay more attention
to; I can give him an A for thatHowever, our backyard was a disaster and I would give him a 'D'
for itI understand, everybody has their good and bad daysHowever, the manner in which he
responded to his own mistakes (and is still denying it) is appallingYou can be your own judge
after reading our responses and seeing the images
To keep this response as short as possible I will skip the details but would be happy to write a
separate letter if you want to know moreBelow are our responses in red for the info provide by
*** *** (highlighted in bold)
First I would like to state that in ten years of being a California contractor, that this is the
first time I have not been able to resolve a situation with a client!
- I can't attest to his ten years of work, but tell you my experienceWe got *** to do the job after
he was recommended to usFrom what we realized now, his bids don't reflect the entire work,
and he will skip detailsFor example for the pool deck work, he skipped the caulking gap
between the pool and concrete deck, and smeared the concrete on the copingThis was ugly and
when we questioned him on that he said that the gap was not in the bidFrom talking to others
(our pool person and neighbors) this is a feature of the pool deck and any experienced
pool deck concrete contractor would have done this by default
In general, we feel referring to the bid was his cover when we pointed out anything that went
wrong and a common theme once we started questioning him about the tardiness of the job he
had done
I kjt construction contracted with *** to pour concrete for him, we poured the front
driveway in the first pour, the driveway turned out flawlessly , but the customer still found
fault in the work
- I agree that the work done on the driveway was a good jobIt met our expectationsI had
asked questions if WE (my wife and I) chose the right colors and stamp pattern after the
completionHowever, we never questioned him on the color or pattern as we realized it was
OUR decision and we gave him the credit for emphasizing that he did not force a color or
pattern choice on usSo I am not sure what he is referring to “found fault in the work”
If I was unhappy with his work, he wouldn’t be doing additional work for us in the futureAlso
during the drive way project we valued his inputs and thought we could trust his workmanship
Only after the front driveway, we contracted him to move the pool pipes, replace the pool deck,
replace sideway concrete work, add drain pipe and replace a window to door (the last one we
did not proceed with because of the backyard debacle)
But we got through and proceeded to pour the back yard concreteAfter we poured the
customer said they didn't like the concrete color that they choose and wanted it all replaced
at my cost, they they continued to find fault in my work, and wanted me to install new
coping and sealer around the pool , which was not in the bid!
- This is a complete lieWhat *** forgot to mention is the cold joint on the pool deckThis was
a shabby job doneThis was the sticking point from day one of the reveal (when he washed off
the top color powder) and we were definitely looking for a remediation
Just as a sanity check, we also had our neighbors, pool guy and other contractors look at this
and everybody concluded that this was a shabby and not from an experienced concrete
contractorThey also picked up on the lack of separation between the pool and concrete deck
All of them told us this is not how a pool deck is pouredWhen we question him on that he said
it’s not in bid, or I can make modifications at our expense
Then I realized that the final batch of concrete was sent the wrong color, from the concrete
supplierI continued to try and resolve the problem with making the concrete co to pay for
the mistake, when the customer became unbearable to deal with, and I no longer felt
comfortable working for them
- Again information presented here is misleading*** was given almost a month to resolve this
matterDuring this time he left the pool and spa in a bad condition where algae grew to a thick
to inch layer with mosquitoes starting to grow as wellWe expressed our concerns on a
frequent basis and asked him to clean it up before it became a health hazard for us and our
toddler kidsHe stopped taking our calls, when asked to meet us said it was too far to drive down
for him to come discuss itHowever, the next day he shows up in the neighborhood to meet
another client, but doesn’t stop by
We had to persist in asking him to come down and meet us in person to discuss the matter as it
was going out of handHe came down and during this last conversation he told us that he (the
general contractor) was NOT responsible for the concrete deliveredHe went to the extent of
telling us that WE should call the concrete company and work with the concrete company to
resolve the matterThe cold joint was caused because of the concrete colorThis was the most
absurd thing we had heardThis is when both my wife and I (both engineers by profession)
realized he was not committed to his contractObviously, we told him exactly on what causes
cold joint (should not have been necessary in my view), and he didn’t seem to like the response
However, when he realized he can't just talk us down, he told us, 'Yes, it was a mistake but it
would not have looked so bad if the concrete color was the same'He walked away from the
conversation and said he will try to resolve it (no concrete dates) and will keep us postedHe
even refused to clean our pool and spa while he waited for the response because 'he would have
to do it again after the work is done (which could have taken a long time, and he agreed because
he was not willing to give us any timeline)At that point my Wife and I were both were very
disappointed with his way on handling our complaints, and knew that he couldn’t be trusted to
complete the jobMore than anything, we started to get concerned on the condition of the pool
and spaAt that point we gave him a week to present a plan for remediation, which he only
responded with 'my work is complete here is the final invoice'I had to personally clean his mess
done in the pool and spa area
Ps I'm the one who has not gotten paidv3fvg d for on the job, they owe me 3,700$ for the
final invoice!
- He never came back to complete the job after we asked him to present the remediation plan,
and he was the one who presented the final invoice, with an email “Here is the final invoice, our
contract is completed.” I have email proof of thisI don’t understand how one can pay for work
that was not completed and left in shabby stateAlso in one conversation when discussing the
concrete pour issues and how he would remediate it (the day he had come to collect a check for
$on 05/01, for work he said was completed) he mentioned he hasn’t made any profit on the
job and should have charged me more, not sure what that he meant at that time, but this was an
indicator that he would soon bail on our project, and this turned out to be true in the end
- Also he forgot to mention that we did not stop any paymentsHe was paid whenever he
presented us with an invoice for completed workEven while we were unhappy with the cold
joint on the deck, we paid him for the completed work (he asked us for a payment on the work
done for the side walk, drain pipe and relocating pool pipes)Also during the concrete pour he
didn’t have the money to pay his workers and called me if I could arrange the money for him,
which I didThis is because we trusted him and also to help him with the tough day he was
having with the concrete not being delivered as per schedule
Ps I'm the victim in this situation!
- *** knows on what condition he left our backyard and where he did not manage customer
expectations and not delivering the final productOne thing we learnt from this is past
experience is not an indicator for future successHe is not qualified to perform pool deck pours
(at the minimum) and should be transparent with his customersFor the last one month I have
spent significant time getting quotes from other contractors, trying to remedy the cold joint the
coping situationWe currently have someone finishing the coping work (cleaning up the shabby
edges that *** left us with) and it has come at a significant cost (both monetary and quality of
life) to usImagine living in your own home and not being able to utilize the backyard (with kids)
because someone didn’t complete the job and also has delayed worked for other projects to
continue (installing a pool fence for the safety of our children)I leave it to Revdex.com to judge who the
victim is
Below are some pictures of the work, reflecting the areas we had expressed concerns and
required a remediation plan
Regards,
*** ***
