Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/05/25) */
The client brought her dog in for grooming. The dog was very matted all over. It is true we nicked the dog under the arm while clipping out the mats. There was NO blood from the time of the cut, through the bath and it was not until it had been...

dried a very small amount of blood was noticed. Per our vets instruction and training we did use the glue that had been provided to close the area. Client picked up the dog, was informed of the injury and at that time the dog was not bleed and the spot had not opened up. Her comment was she was surprised he had not been cut before because he was a challenge to groom. The dog was very wiggly on the table. She went as far as to give the groomer a 5.00 tip.
She called after business hours to leave a message about what happened. My groomer called her back and spoke with her. She was told that I was out of the office until the following day and would call her back. She called me before I had a chance to call her. We talked on the phone and I explained that dogs that are badly matted do have a higher risk of injury do to the condition they are in. She was offered 2 options: 1 I would refund her money and give her a free future groom. The dog would be on my books and I would personally take care of her dog. 2. I would split the vet bill. (Yes we did nick the dog but the dog was in very bad coat condition, if he had been less matted the issue would not of been there) She had to call her husband to ask what he wanted to do. She called me back and said they would take half the vet bill.
When she came in her first question was had I been told what happened. I repeated what was told to me by the groomers. She then asked if I had liability insurance which I told her I did but would only file for major issues such as a dog getting loose or a big vet bill (86.50 is not a big vet bill) Then she told me her vet said that it was wrong to use any glue, my vet has a different opinion. I was shown by the vet how to address such an issue.
The client signed a waiver that said we were not responsible for vet bills but I agreed to pay 50% because we were partially at fault. I feel the clients not keeping her pet better brushed and mat free lead to this situation. She also asked for her 5.00 tip back which I also gave her for a total of 48.25. When she left she said she would not be back because we do not pay for vet bills, which is not true. That is based on a case by case situation.
