Kniesel's Collision Center of Downtown Sacramento

Review: On 2/13/14, Kniesels estimated $623.67 to repair my car. After receiving approval from the insurance company, on Monday, 3/24/14, I dropped my car off at Kniesels, and learned that they had increased their estimate by more than 40%. Due to time constraints imposed by the insurance company, I reluctantly left my car for repair, with the explicit assurance that I could pick it up two days later. But on Wednesday, 3/26/14, [redacted] of Kniesels told me that I could not pick up the car because the paint was still wet. On Thursday, 3/27/14, the insurance agent called and told me that additional repairs had been approved! I waited for Kniesels to tell me I could pick up my car, but they never called. On Friday, 3/28/14 [redacted] of Kniesels called and, unbelievably, told me that I could not pick up my car because the paint was still wet! I told her that I was not happy about this. It was not possible for me to safely secure my service dog in the rental car, and I was paying daily insurance charges on the rental car. When I finally picked up my car, Kniesels tried to force me to sign a statement that I had approved the additional repairs. I refused. The paperwork that Kniesels gave me states that I approved additional repairs on Monday, 3/24/14, at 12:34 from my home phone number. This is NOT physically possible: The phone is a land-line. At 12:45 (just 11 minutes later) I was in a classroom full of students, preparing to give a midterm exam in Davis. According to [redacted], it takes 17 minutes to travel from my phone to the campus! This does not include traffic, parking time, time to obtain a temporary parking permit, etc. Further, I was on campus more than an hour prior to the exam for office hours, in the faculty office with other faculty members. To be at my home phone talking with Kniesels at 12:34 I would literally have to have been in two places at the same time.I would never have agreed to spend over $1400 on a fender-bender, or give up use of my car for over a week.Desired Settlement: The insurance agent told me that it was my choice to have the car repaired or to keep the settlement. I would never have agreed to spend over $1400 to repair the damage. Nor would I have agreed to relinquish my car for over a week, regardless of the repair expense, placing my service dog at risk. I believe it was improper, if not fraudulent, for Kniesels to withhold information about the repair of my car, and subsequently lie about obtaining my approval. I believe they should return my money.
