Misadvised on simple plate switching procedure, costing money failed to follow EXPLICIT instructions. Left us without liability coverage on abig trip.
*** staff and disorganized office took 20 minutes to locate records for a vehicle we've insured through them for 9 years. Completely screwed up a procedure of switching switching plates and insurance from one vehicle to another that their previous owner had advised us to do, costing us a completely unnecessary $62 to revive an old plate, then failed to switch liability coverage as EXPLICITLY instructed leaving us without coverage on 4,500 km trip, and leaving an old van without a battery insured

Desired Outcome

Refund of the money I paid for the unnecessary revival of the old plates and for their insuring an undrivable, stored vehicle.

I had talked to the staff in questions to find out what was going on and then I called *** and spoke with him. This was the result.

I spoke with *** regarding the letter sent to Revdex.com, regarding service. I was unaware of the issue he had come across and there were not enough notes to fully understand what had transpired. After calling *** and reviewing reviewing with him he had cancelled the plate on the *** back in May 2018, because he was no longer driving the vehicle and they only needed one vehicle which was his wife's *** vehicle that they were driving. His policy continued to cover the vehicle with plate *** the ***, and confirmed with *** on renewal review June 8th 2018 call. Then on July 3 2018 he came to the office to plate the *** but the issuer could not find the vehicle description and serial number because of the transfer of plate back and forth as these do not store with ***'s *** system when you transfer the same plate back and forth.
The Issuer suggested to him to have a plate on each that he could keep on rather than have to physically change every time from vehicle back and forth. My assumption is to make life easier for him, both by having to change the plate and for ease of finding the vehicle description on *** (***'s system), however the information once registered should have been forwarded to a broker to correct the policy and that had not happened. The $65 dollars mentioned as over payment was truly not an over pay, it was the registration for the first month to sign up on Pre Authorized Payment. I explained this was standard and not an additional fee. He asked if he was in an accident and needed liability what would have happened? I assured him we would have supported him and approached *** for coverage. Due to the many years they would have seen he did exactly this and they would have most likely provided coverage, and if not Knight Archer would have provided the coverage as an error in our part under our Errors and omission policy. He was happy with my explanation and I advised I would add a note to his file for future changes and if he ever has issues at the front to no hesitate to ask for the manager or supervisor.

A senior person in the company did call me and we had a long conversation. She admitted to and apologized for the mistake that had been made, putting the extra liability coverage we always insist on having on an inactive, garaged vehicle rather than the one which we were driving on 4500 km road trip. She assured me that this would very likely have been corrected by ***, had any accident happened, and also that Knight Archer's own insurance would kick in to coverage such an error in the likely even that *** did not do so.

She also corrected my misapprehension that the amount we had been charged after we returned was for this period and stated that it was for the whole year, thereby making it clear that any refund for it - from which a charge for the early termination of coverage would be deducted would by minimal. We agreed that it would therefore not be worth pursuing.

Knight Archer has agreed to put notes on my file and asked me to always insure that I speak to authorized brokers in their back office - rather than more junior front office personnel - in making these annual changes. They also, apparently, dealt with the case in some detail to better instruct their staff. I am provisionally satisfied with this solution, and will be fully satisfied when I see them actually function for me, when I make the usual transfer of licence plates and licencing this winter.
