Knights Collision Experts Reviews (6)

Knights Collision did a great job on my vehicle from the very beginning, from the time the vehicle was dropped off. They assured me they will do their best, and that they did. The communication was excellent keeping me informed of the vehicle's progress. The customer service was excellent. It was great doing business with them. I would definitely recommend them to anyone requiring any type of repair.

Thank You,

Over the phone, everything was in order - all my paperwork was complete and I was fully paid up. When I arrived to pick up my car at the lot, I felt like I was in a third world prison. There were about 40 people already waiting to be helped, and one useless sign-in sheet was sitting on a counter. The attendants were behind a one-sided glass window so you couldn't see any faces. An older man tapped on the window because he had a question, and a voice yelled back threatening everyone to "Sit DOWN or NO ONE would get their car!" It was mostly taxi drivers waiting, so I assume Knights works with the city to do all of the their Taxi & Limousine Commission tows.

There were two employees working:

1. Rude woman checking all the paperwork from her iPhone.

2. Loud profanities guy who accompanied rude woman on her long cigarette breaks.

I finally got my car after 4 hours, and in that time they had successfully released TWO OTHER CARS. I left feeling angry and sorry for all those people who would be there surely for the rest of the day. Many of them spoke English as a second language and their cars were being held hostage until they paid extra days' storage fees and produced the same documents over and over again.

I was compelled to write this review because of the city's contracts with this company. Businesses should feel obliged to maintain some level of customer service, but Knights is exempt because they are receiving their income from the city. I am hoping that the government will open their eyes and work with more a more reputable towing company with some semblance of ethics.

Review: My car was stolen from Staten Island. I reported the car stolen to nypd. Two months after I reported my car stolen I received a paper in the mail from knights collision stating that I owe them money for storage fees and that if they are not paid the company will be auctioning my car. Apparently my car was found my nypd and knights collision towed my vehicle and stored it in their facility. The problem I'm having is that I contacted the company and was made aware that they picked up my car within 7 days of it being reported stolen. I asked them why wasn't I nor my local precinct contacted when the vehicle was recovered (my registration was in the vehicle so my contact info was there accessible). Knights collision waited 57 days to contact me and now want an excessive amount of money in order to release my car. If the company would have contacted me accurately I would have picked up my car the same week I'm order to avoid such charges. A month after my car was stolen I went to my local precinct in order to pick up a police report and as of that time the car wasn't reported that it was found. How could a company hold my car which was stolen for almost two months before contacting me? I tried to talk to them about the problem and how it can be rectified but I didn't get anywhere. It's absurd that the business can basically scam people out of money in such a manner.Desired Settlement: I just want my car back for a decent price. How can I be responsible for fees when I was not aware that the vehicle was found?

Dear [redacted]:

This letter is being written as a response to a complaint we received from your office dated October *, 2013, your reference number

[redacted]. I have reviewed the complaint as submitted by [redacted]

On July **, 2013 at approis:ix:nately 8:25 pm we received a call from 79th Pct in Brooklyn. They called us as part of the ROTOW program that they had recovered a stolen vehicle. Approximately 9:15 pm we arrived on the scene and were instructed to tow a 1999 Ford Taurus (ROTOW voucher attached). We then towed the vehicle to our yard as part of our obligation in the ROTOW program. At this point it is the obligation of the 79th pct to notify the registered owner via a [redacted] form that her property has been recovered

not ours. Unfortunately it seems as if the 79pct did not do their job.

Fortunately we still have the vehicle on our lot and would be more than willing to work something out with Ms. Livengood, So that she could get her vehicle back. She can contact me anytime at [redacted] and I would be more than happy to discuss this matter with her.

Sincerely,

Review: I reported my car stolen on august [redacted] with the [redacted], it was stolen in front of my home, it was found 2 weeks later in good condition, the[redacted] advised me to pick it up. The car was not illegally parked and it was towed by knights towing and they charged me 304.00 dollars to retrieve the car, I dont believe I should be responsible for that because I have my police report and it should have never been towed to begin with, and I was told by the [redacted] and [redacted] I should not be charged. Hope you can help.Desired Settlement: I just want my money back, I have been inconveninced enough by having to sit in the towing facility for hours, and having to pay to get my stolen car back.

Dear [redacted]

This letter is being written as a response to a complaint we received from your office dated August [redacted] your reference number [redacted]. I have reviewed the complaint as submitted by [redacted] of [redacted]. Please be advised that there was no invoice or plate number for me to reference what particular transaction this complaint was associated with so I emailed [redacted] directly and she provided me with her plate number. I was able to retrieve her record and therefore am able to respond.

[redacted] states Knights Towing charged me $304 to retrieve the car and she doesn't believe she should have been responsible for those charges because the car was stolen. On August [redacted] the 81" NYPD Precient called our firm to tow [redacted]'s 1998 Plymouth Neon from [redacted] and [redacted] in Brooklyn where their Officer recovered it after it had been reported stolen. This request for tow was under the NYPD ROTATION TOW program where private towing companies are called to tow and store recovered stolen autos so they can be returned to their rightful owners. The vehicle owners are responsible to pay towing and storage rates that have been set by the NYC Council and after personally reviewing the bill paid by [redacted] those charges are exactly what she paid, not a penny more.

Additionally [redacted] was advised by the 81" NYPD Precient the same day her car was recovered where her car was towed to and how to contact our firm. [redacted] called our firm the very same day we towed it (8/**) when the towing and storage charges were only $163.31. The following day (8/**) she called again and spoke to our supervisor, [redacted] who fully explained the program and why she had to pay us direct for the fees, but she still did not retrieve her car on that date when the charges were only $$190.54. Later that same day (8/**) she called and advised us that she would be coming to pick up her car on 8/** when the charges would have been $217.50. Instead she left her car at our storage facility for 8 days and paid $364.75, her own refusal to pick up her car the very first day cost her an additional $201.19.

We do our best to explain to customers who do not agree with the procedures of the NYPD but there is no other way for us to return stolen recovered vehicles but to have those owners pay our charges. Please contact me if I can be of any further assistance in this matter.

Sincerely:

[redacted],

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

Hi I'm reaching out to you to tell you my case was never resolved! I paid 367 dollars to get my stolen car from knights towing and the only way to resolve this is to give me the money back, knights collision reached out to me once and when I responded they never responded again, a cat that was stolen off my property by someone shouldn't be my responsibility to pay for I should of been able to pick my car of from a police precinct, the [redacted] instructed me to pick up the car not pay for it. Thanks for your time

[redacted]

As explained earlier today by phone all of the issues [redacted] had noted in her reply to my response have already been addressed within my first response. Her reply states "the only way to resolve this is to give me that money back" and in my original reply it states "The vehicle owners are responsible to pay towing and storage rates that have been set by the NYC Council". So what she is requesting is that our firm refund the towing and storage charges that were due to us as allowed by law, we perform law enforcement towing and without collecting the charges allowed by law, we would have no business at all. I understand that it does not seem fair for someone's car to get stolen and then be on the hook for charges due to the towing company the NYPD contracts out to recover the car once it has been found, but that is simply the way it is handled by the City of New York.

The complainant in this matter goes on to state that "I should have been able to pick my car from a police precinct", our firm did not find her car after it was stolen, it was an Officer of the 81st Police Precinct that did find the car and called our firm to tow and store it until its rightful owner could arrange picking it up from our storage facility. As for her claim that the 81st Precinct instructed her to pick up that car and not pay for it, I find that hard to believe. As stated in our first response "[redacted] called our firm the very same day we towed it" and "she left her car at our storage facility for 8 days". During that 8 day period I am sure she contacted the 81st Police Precinct and was advised she had to pay us. If not she would have been able to have the NYPD respond to our place of business and force us to release her car without payment.

This is the second time I have had to take valuable time out of my day to reply to a complaint that has no merit at all. There are many things that Government does that our Citizens are not happy with (taxes, rules, laws etc.) but must be complied with even if it does not make sense to some people. The Rotation Tow Program that is administered by the NYPD has been in effect since 1975 has contracted our firm to tow tens of thousands of cars over almost 4 decades that were stolen and recovered by the NYPD. The laws of the City of New York allows for us to charge the owners of those stolen vehicles for the services we have rendered. Please remove this complaint from our record as we have for a second time justified our actions and should not be required to refund charges that fully comply with all of the laws and regulations set forth by the NYC Council and the NYPD.

Thank You

Review: I was in an accident on 9/*. My car was towed to knights. I was told by the driver this was required by law because my accident was on the FDR during rush hour. They have no said there are many charges I must pay before they will release my car to MY chosen body shop.Desired Settlement: Many of the charges are unwarranted and should be refunded. Please contact me for a list of the specific unwarranted and unfair charges.

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is being written as a response to a complaint we received from your office dated September **, 2013 ,your reference number [redacted].

On September *, 2013, [redacted]'s 2008 Toyota Prius was towed to our shop from a Collision he had on the [redacted] in Manhattan. After a careful review, he signed a contract with us agreeing to have us act on his behalf with the insurance company. The contract also included dismantling of the vehicle, working up an estimate and performing a cash evaluation.

On September *, 2013 at 9:22 am the Allstate adjuster arrived to inspect [redacted]'s Toyota and as agreed we negotiated an estimate (attached). Then as agreed we dismantled vehicle to ensure a thorough estimate was performed. On Saturday September *, 2013 Knights in house NYS licensed adjuster reevaluated the disassembled vehicle and performed an estimate as agreed to ensure the Allstate adjuster was accurate. On Monday September *, 2013 at 4:12pm l received an email from [redacted] seeking to have his vehicle release. I spoke with him soon after and at 5:36 pm I emailed him the necessary release documents. [redacted]'s tow truck did not pick up the vehicle until September **, 2013 .to pick up the vehicle. All work performed was authorized by [redacted] form attached.

A copy of our invoice detailing all charges is included.

As you can clearly see, all charges are valid and should not be refunded. [redacted] is being charged only the necessary fees for our rendered services as agreed.

Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

BE WARNED!!! If you do business with their junk yard and tow-pound division at [redacted] you will be shocked and dismayed with every person/degenerate working there and the disturbing conditions and practices of this under-performing and shameful business.

Knights is contracted by the City of NY and TLC do handle their seizures and ultimately towing of vehicles. The words unhelpful, rude and purposely disconnected from customers are beyond comprehension. Truth be told, I hold the The City of NY and TLC responsible for this appalling situation as they have indeed offered them their contracts.

Their office, situated inside the fenced-in lot is a small trailer, which needless to say is disgusting in every way. I suspect that because their customers, those that have had their cars seized for one reason or another, have violated the law for one reason or another, therefore employees show disdain and a disconnecting disrespect for those who are seeking to retrieve their vehicles. Aside from the antiquated level of systems and procedures, as well as the lack of any technological equipment, the staff their has no regard for those who come back day after day to only be told by the staff that they don't know when their vehicles will be delivered and to simply wait.... wait.... and wait. They simply do not care. Vehicles are apparently taken to various holding locations where they wait for Knights tow trucks to be dispatched to pick up. This procedure is odd as they display sign that reads that "KNIGHTS MUST DELIVER THE VEHICLE TO THE STORAGE FACILITY BEFORE 8:00AM THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY." That said, I suspect that the reason the sign is posted is because that's what the contract stipulates and that that advisement be posted. Nothing further from the truth is the case. Customers there have advised that they have come back 4-5 days in a row, only to wait until closing with nothing but the same words: "We don't know. Wait until your name is called."

Then, to top it all off, customers are additionally charged for each day that the vehicle has been held, whether it's at their Brooklyn facility or not!

Summarizing, and this is without exaggeration, the service experience offered at this location/business is highly disrespectful, and their systems, controls and equipment truly antiquated.
