So, we bought a puppy off someone on craigslist (I know, bad move) on Sat Nov.11, The man told us he was healthy, happy etcWell we got into the car and started the hour and a half trip back homeThe puppy seemed a bit lethargicWe got home at 10pm puppy didn't eat that night or following dayThrowing up, diarrheaBrought him to Arendell Animal Hospital Monday morning at openThey saw him tested him for parvo (positive)Told us to admit him and to give it a couple days to see how he doesCalled Monday night, said he was taking all fluids- good signCalled Tuesday morning, they said he took fluids through the night that it was a positive sign, he was starting to show slight improvementCalled Wedmorning they said they had overhydrated him, therefore were taking him off the I.Vthat his lip was slightly swollen from itBut it was a good sign because he was keeping in fluidsThey said no vomiting no diarrhea since we brought him in great sign! Called Wednight said he was starting to eat soft food mixed with water by syringe, another great sign! But that he should stay another nightCalled ThursmorningSaid he was still improving, drinking water on his own still eating from syringe, no vomit-diarrheaDoing MUCH BETTERHowever should stay until Friday afternoonCalled Thursnight we were told he was up in his cage flipped his food bowl, eating solids, no vomit-diarrhea, DOING GREAT! Will be definitely ready to come home FridayCalled Friday morning- same responsesWe got there to pick him up before closing time Friday approx5:pmPaid our $bill, and talked to Dr [redacted] who stated "He's doing Great! May take another few days to eat solids (which was odd because I was told he was already doing that by one of the staff) gave us the rundown of his meds and that he should be fine with virus pretty much completely running its course in a few daysHe did well, blah, blah." We said thank you so much! We were soo GRATEFUL! My family soo excited to get back, from what we were TOLD, a healthier, more energetic puppy that was "DOING GREAT!)" So they bring out the puppy, who was a bit limp, and being that it was closing and they said to hurry him out because he could still be a little contagious they didn't want it to spread in the office and the FACT THAT WE TRUSTED the Vetwho's job is to LOVE animalsWe scurried him happily into the carWell, three minutes into the ride as we were checking him over, we noticed his belly was filled with water like a thin water balloonHis gums were white, He was limp like a noodle, cold to the touch and his eyes appeared as if he were no longer with usHe was also having uncontrollable bloody diarrhea all over my husbands lapSo myself the pessimist pulled the car over immediately! My husband, the optimist was trying to ensure me that it was just because he was in the hospital, on meds., still recuperating etcUhh, NOPE, I called back the office from the car minafter we leftThey were goneNo answerWe drove home about another minride to see how he was when we got him homeWe get him in the house where our year old son, and other family members were awaiting in pure excitement to see the improvement in the puppy we all heard about all weekWe got him in and tried to put him down, he fell to the floorHe was showing no signs of even hearing or seeing usWe placed him on a few towels on my Mom's bed (due to the bloody diarrhea that he was still having) and all just kept trying to get any sign of life as my husband called other vet hospitals explaining the symptomsHe hung up and it was too late! :''( our puppy was deadGoneTook his last breath! Now, with all of this being said, I understand FULLY that parvo can be fatal and there was no guarantee! HOWEVER, being told ALL WEEK that he was improving and doing GREAT! And most likely out of the woods and him DYING within an hour of leaving the office are VERY DIFFERENTSo my conclusion: Either he was doing a little better and they declined him by the over hydration on day two and decided to steal more of my $ KNOWING it was fatalORHe was NEVER doing ANY better and you decided to keep him extra days so you could steal more of my $Either way, YOU CALL YOURSELF a vet? Isn't there some sort of oath??? And they KNEW! There's no possible way they didn't! I'm not a vet and I knew IMMEDIATELY! Pure EVIL! If you are going to go here (which I do NOT recommend) may it be for the basics! Shots, maybe a checkup (which is being generous) AT YOUR OWN RISK will you be going for anything elseWe our all BROKENHEARTED and just got finished burying our pupMy next post is to Revdex.com
