RESPONSE: If management received ONE call from a fellow camper (let alone TWO MORE CALLS A HALF HOUR LATER), then the appropriate action after the first call should have been to politely and respectfully approach us as paying customers! Instead, we were aggressively confronted by a drunk old man tapping on our BACK WINDOW of the vehicle who never introduced himself as an employee (remind you that Cicadas were falling from the trees because of the rain and flying into our SUV making a louder noise than his little tap)A reasonable person would have the intelligence to knock on our windows in the FRONT of the vehicle to get our attention in the dead of the nightAlso, he didn't explain why he was thereHe yelled with slurred words of threats and violence telling us that there were FIFTEEN CALLS and that the sheriff was on his way no matter what we saidWe knew that there was no sense in trying to reason with him because even though he was on the job, he was intoxicated beyond reasoningAs stated by the KOA campgrounds, we DID quiet down because we DON'T like conflict According to the website koa.com/why-koa/, customers can enjoy high quality, friendly service and funI expect high standards when I pay a high rate from a campground that uses the KOA name brand recognition across AmericaAfter all, the campgrounds have an ethical obligation to its customers to be polite and forty dollars a night to sleep outside in a tent is not cheapAlfred Hitchcock movies don't even compare to the real life horror of the Cicadas (also called Locusts) that were at least two inches long and HUGE! They were in our food, inside and outside our tent, climbing on my physically challenged mother's air mattress while she was sitting on it, climbing our legs, concentration all over the ground, saturated in the trees and crawling into our vehicleThat was the reason we had to spend the night in the SUV instead of the tentAs the evening went by it got worseWe did shine the flashlight all over the ground, the tent, and the trees because of the horrorWe had to keep our flashlights on them! That was the only way to know when we had to start killing them again; we got absolutely no sleep that night! The live locusts were crawling INSIDE my vehicle WHILE we were also inside the vehicleFinally, we were told to "make the most of it like the rest of the campers were doing." We stayed inside our vehicle trying to make the most of it while the other campers had parties outside, laughing loud with alcoholAlthough the campgrounds cannot guarantee that there will be no bugs in the area, there should still be effective measures taken such as pests netting, insecticides and biological control to ensure that they are vigilant at trying their best to protect valued customers from pests and other important issues related to the camping experience The next morning, I did go to the office and ask for a refund from the young girl working behind the counter but I barely got that out of my mouth when a blonde haired woman who was working walked toward me and looked at me and said, "There's the troublemaker," and so I replied, "I'm not the troublemaker!" Then the same old man (who was drunk and threatening the previous night) walked up to me, put his face right up to my face (literally nose to nose), called me a [redacted] and shifted his weight to position his body and arms to physically assault meIf it were not for the other employees restraining him once he had his arm in midair with a closed fist to hit me and also telling him to stop, this so-called man would have punched me and beat me up (please keep in mind, I am a woman)! to be quiet. They started yelling obscenities and asking for a refund because of the bugs. They were informed that we do not give refunds, but they need to be respectful of the fellow campers. They eventually quieted down. The complainer then came into the office the next morning and requested a refund again. She was told that we are asking her to leave because they were disturbing to the other campers and belligerent to my employees. She began yelling in the store with other customers around. I told her to leave now. She , an older lady and a male called us obscene names and flipped the bird. They went to their site and started packing up.I told them the Sherri ff is on his way. They then ran to their car and sped out of here. We told them that if they left, they can not come back to take their stuff. They yelled as they were leaving that they would be coming back with shells and we are going to get shot. We have most of this on video. The site had a trash can full of gin bottles and beer cans. They are welcome to come get their belongings with sheriff escort only.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 9, 2016/06/14) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
RESPONSE:
1. If management received ONE call from a fellow camper (let alone TWO MORE CALLS A HALF HOUR LATER), then the appropriate action after the first call should have been to politely and respectfully approach us as paying customers! Instead, we were aggressively confronted by a drunk old man tapping on our BACK WINDOW of the vehicle who never introduced himself as an employee (remind you that Cicadas were falling from the trees because of the rain and flying into our SUV making a louder noise than his little tap). A reasonable person would have the intelligence to knock on our windows in the FRONT of the vehicle to get our attention in the dead of the night. Also, he didn't explain why he was there. He yelled with slurred words of threats and violence telling us that there were FIFTEEN CALLS and that the sheriff was on his way no matter what we said. We knew that there was no sense in trying to reason with him because even though he was on the job, he was intoxicated beyond reasoning. As stated by the KOA campgrounds, we DID quiet down because we DON'T like conflict.

2. According to the website koa.com/why-koa/, customers can enjoy high quality, friendly service and fun. I expect high standards when I pay a high rate from a campground that uses the KOA name brand recognition across America. After all, the campgrounds have an ethical obligation to its customers to be polite and forty dollars a night to sleep outside in a tent is not cheap. Alfred Hitchcock movies don't even compare to the real life horror of the Cicadas (also called Locusts) that were at least two inches long and HUGE! They were in our food, inside and outside our tent, climbing on my physically challenged mother's air mattress while she was sitting on it, climbing our legs, concentration all over the ground, saturated in the trees and crawling into our vehicle. That was the reason we had to spend the night in the SUV instead of the tent. As the evening went by it got worse. We did shine the flashlight all over the ground, the tent, and the trees because of the horror. We had to keep our flashlights on them! That was the only way to know when we had to start killing them again; we got absolutely no sleep that night! The live locusts were crawling INSIDE my vehicle WHILE we were also inside the vehicle. Finally, we were told to "make the most of it like the rest of the campers were doing." We stayed inside our vehicle trying to make the most of it while the other campers had parties outside, laughing loud with alcohol. Although the campgrounds cannot guarantee that there will be no bugs in the area, there should still be effective measures taken such as pests netting, insecticides and biological control to ensure that they are vigilant at trying their best to protect valued customers from pests and other important issues related to the camping experience.
3. The next morning, I did go to the office and ask for a refund from the young girl working behind the counter but I barely got that out of my mouth when a blonde haired woman who was working walked toward me and looked at me and said, "There's the troublemaker," and so I replied, "I'm not the troublemaker!" Then the same old man (who was drunk and threatening the previous night) walked up to me, put his face right up to my face (literally nose to nose), called me a [redacted] and shifted his weight to position his body and arms to physically assault me. If it were not for the other employees restraining him once he had his arm in midair with a closed fist to hit me and also telling him to stop, this so-called man would have punched me and beat me up (please keep in mind, I am a woman)! Then, approximately four of the staff chased me out of the office blasting insults and name calling to my family and me. As far as the campground having a video of all of this commotion, I welcome the video, especially inside the office of this highly unprofessional business.
4. After leaving the office, we did go to our campsite to try to get our camping equipment. We were in the process of packing our belongings in our vehicle when a golf cart full of employees again began harassing us even though we were trying to get our stuff in the car as soon as we could without any disruption to the other campers. The reason we had to flee from the campgrounds was due to the constant harassment and the outrageous bullying by the staff that was not going to go away. At no time whatsoever, did the business act in a professional and ethical manner.
5. Given the situation, I called the Butler, Ohio police department and left a voice message explaining the circumstances and asked for a police escort to get the rest of my camping equipment. A police officer was kind enough to call me back and leave a voicemail stating that the KOA campgrounds was not in the Butler, Ohio's jurisdiction, and I would need to call the Richland County sheriff's department. At the same time of this nightmare vacation, we had prior other obligations that needed attention.
6. The disrespect that we received as paying customers is beyond my belief. I have never been physically intimidated by a business until encountering these backwoods individuals that apparently do not know how to run a professional business. Furthermore, the false allegations of us having of Gin liquor at all and the false statement that we supposedly said we were leaving and coming back with shells and that they were going to get shot is not surprising to me. After all, I wouldn't expect anything more out of this kind of people.
As stated in my first complaint, I am requesting a total refund and my belongings returned with a law enforcement escort. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Final Business Response /* (4000, 20, 2016/07/08) */
Out of 400 people camping that weekend, I had more complaints about the drunk playing loud music and strobe lights at 2:30 in the morning. I will not play war of words with her. Responsible people do not behave like this at 2:30 in the morning. I had 2 complaints about the cicadas. 3 calls about the loud music. This lady stopped payment on her credit card, so no refund for her. She has 30 days to get her belongings or they will be disposed of. She must get a sheriff escort on my property. She also has put bad reviews online using a different name.
